A sad statement on the spiritual, intellectual and political education of the American people of the time. It is purported that McCarthy had a past. In a country and time when so many thought they were Christian there certainly was a lot of judgment going on. Of course we mustn't see the faults of others without loving them as ourselves. Merry Christmas all. ❤

The way they are both choking back tears when talking about their characters, shows how deeply they felt for them. The show is truly a work of art and devotion and has opened a new page to portrayal of gay intimacy. It's evident Matt and Jonny have immersed themselves fully in this in order to achieve the vulnerability and closeness Tim and Hawk deserved. The authenticity and verisimilitude they brought to every scene in this - whether it came to sex, grief, regret, pain, power dynamics, were absolutely mind-blowing. Whoever decided to put these two together, has my eternal gratification.

The interviewer asked many of the questions I've been pondering as well. The scene of Hawk and Tim dancing, chest to chest, hip to hip- so connected in every sense- was the epitomisation of their love for me. It was such a poignantly vulnerable image and brilliant depiction of queer love as pure and wholesome and real. Then, I loved Jonathan's interpretation of the scene where Tim cries when he sees Jackson. It resonates with me and answers my own question as to what could've been running through his character's mind at the time. Lastly, Hawk's confession at the end- it gutted me- but Matt put it brilliantly. Hawk now understood the cost of compartmentalising his life- he lost his one great, all-consuming love. He really was a baby now on the journey to discovering and accepting himself. But I do think Tim always knew Hawk loved him. There were multiple scenes where Hawk alluded to it in both word and action. The public kiss at the banquet- initiated by Hawk, something he never would have done in the past- was his declaration of love back to Tim. But he made it easy, as per Tim's request, and he finally let go. He placed Tim's needs above his own, being unselfish for once in his life. That was love. Ugh! This was a brilliant series. Congratulations to the cast; I hope Fellow Travelers wins all the awards!

Devastating and beautiful. This is why art is so necessary in our world. That dance scene was BRUTAL. Seeing that clip again, Skippy looks so content and happy while Hawk knows he's just about to devastate him in the worst way.

Doesn't he always lead. that's their dynamic. You, yourself call him Skippy. The objectifying name. very Boy Toy. more to the point, it smells like no good deed goes unpunished, a recurring theme. Yet someone , quite a few someone in this case made it count. Texas Buyers Club is just one movie, lives were extended, some illegal cigars may have been involved in healthcare..

I don't think he knew that until Tim said they would be colleagues and see each other every day. Suddenly that terrified him and he ran from that plan. He would be outed, no doubt, from loving him and needing time with him that he could not resist. .
@MrsNanaBlue Жыл бұрын
I believe in the moment of the dance, Hawk hadn't yet made up his mind. He was blissful. But it's somehow tragic, that in the moment that Tim says, I'm happy with the little breadcrumbs that you will give me, I will make no drama. Hawk destroys everything -again.
@hiyc9911 ай бұрын
@@auntisthenes2754Their dynamic shifts when Tim grows older. Skippy the name Boy Toy, objectifying? Have you ever been in love? You seem very depressed and angry. And Hawk suffered from him own choices, his pay back being he lose every single one he cares except his daughter. It was interesting hearing their take on the finale. They’re both such gifted actors and I can’t imagine the vulnerability required to film those scenes. The baby: Is a loss of a dream. The dream that these men could in fact ever have a "real" life (a family, be together). This baby confirmed that Hawk and Tim were done and that they could never have that (and how sad that they couldn't have a baby/future). The innocence of this baby and the world it might grow up in. We hope all babies/kids get to grow up with love and acceptance (but then we grow up and realize the world can be extremely harsh/unfair). And sadly due to Hawk's lying, Jackson STILL ended up tormented, and on drugs, and wanting to escape being a part of Hawk's beard family however he could. Hawk ruined a lot of lives by choosing not to live his Truth
@yessica4932 Жыл бұрын
@@olubukonla7352 yes but we could go back and blame hawk's father for treating him as poorly as He did over his sexuality, and then the blame could go further and further back through the family link until it's hardly trackable anymore and that would get exhausting. the lying hawk was doing clearly did not do jackson justice or any favours, but he reacted to the deceit and coldness he felt at home in his own, damaging ways and we can understand why he'd have grown up to do that; it's a lot harder for people to do the same sort of thing with hawk, so this isn't personal toward you necessarily, it's just that there's been a hugely repulsed reaction to his behaviour as a father (let alone a person, but that could take Years to unpack), despite how well the show lays out so many of the ways that hiding himself and lying about it was already necessary for his survival before he ever had kids of his own, and long before living your Truth was even all that plausible an option for LGBT people. if you weren't actively arrested if discovered, you'd have been completely shunned unless you were lucky enough to know the right people at the very least, both actors talked freely and from a deep place of understanding in this video about the corruptive structures that forced the characters they're playing (and in their cases, completely BODYING) to make these horrible choices to get by and it could be worth it to take what they've got to say on that to heart, just as actors who've given performances you must've enjoyed enough to be here talking about the show like this or as people within the present LGBT community looking back on a period that was so repressive for those that came before them; there's value in that
@ucity8810 ай бұрын
I think that Tim seeing Jackson not only let him know Hawk would never be his in the ways that count, it also made him realize that Hawk would continue using him as often as he could. Tim's innate empathy also plays a part. He would NEVER intentionally harm the kids, whereas Hawk was always centering his own needs to the detriment of everyone who loved him. I think Tim seeing newborn Jackson in the hospital also added a layer to Tim's brief interaction with Jackson at the cabin. Tim needed to protect Jackson from Hawk. AGAIN. I'm also not convinced that Hawk was HIV negative. His reply to Marcus was totally sus!
@ShelbyBaby278 ай бұрын
Yes! Tim counseling Jackson in the cabin allowed for Tim to gift Hawk an understanding of his son and helped Tim pivot from the seminary to becoming an openly gay activist/ counselor. Jackson transitioned Tim & Hawk's relationship into a less sexual more caring one. In another world Hawk would have reached out to Skippy to help Jackson.

3:39 My personal interpretation of that moment was: Tim came to the hospital, all fired up, SO angry at Hawk for what he did (and rightfully so). Angry enough to confront him even though he *knows* Hawk’s wife had JUST given birth. But then… But then he lays eyes on that baby and he is shook to his core. He has a moment of profound realization that he cannot blow up this child’s family and ruin his life. The baby is innocent. Tim can’t hurt him like that. (Side note: This scene makes Tim’s scenes with Jackson when he’s older at the cabin, hit that much harder.. 😢).
