The National Emergency Alert System is designed to alert people of potential dangers like severe weather or national emergencies like a nuclear attack. Not one tv or radio station mentioned this was a wireless alert test! Verizon in Boston, MA informed me of the fact when I questioned why alert was not heard on my landline phone. What good is a National alert system if only wireless phones can receive the alert. How do people who have no cell phones get National weather alerts? Landline phones should be included in this alert system. What happens in cases where your cellphone is not charged or you are not able to charge it due to loss of electricity?

The following is a list of each alert, along with its purpose: August 11, 2021: Nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). August 7, 2019: Nationwide test of the EAS. October 3, 2018: Nationwide test of the EAS and WEA. September 20, 2017: Nationwide test of the EAS and WEA. October 3, 2016: Nationwide test of the EAS. January 16, 2012: Nationwide test of the EAS in response to the January 2012 North American blizzard. September 6, 2008: Nationwide test of the EAS in response to Hurricane Ike. The purpose of these tests is to ensure that the EAS and WEA systems are working properly and that the public is aware of how to receive emergency alerts. In addition to the tests, FEMA and FCC have also used the EAS and WEA to issue real-world alerts on several occasions, including: October 23, 2022: Nationwide alert warning of an impending solar storm. August 4, 2022: Nationwide alert warning of a severe weather outbreak. These real-world alerts demonstrate the importance of the EAS and WEA systems in helping to keep the public safe during emergencies. Therefore, the nationwide alert on October 4, 2023 will be the 9th nationwide alert conducted by FEMA and FCC, and the 6th nationwide test of the EAS and WEA.
