This is a great tutorial. Your technique and knowledge are beyond most, only 18 minutes and you have a realistic, anatomically correct face. Most people push and pull a dynamesh until they get a resemblance of what a face looks like. You start with a skull as a base and work off of it, creating a flawless representation of a realistic head. Best head tutorial I've seen yet. Good job!

This is beyond perfect! I've been struggling for a long time to sculpt heads, basically only way I could do it was to put ref inside zbrush with spotlight, but I knew on the long run this would just hold me back so I started to learn actual proportions, face planes, etc. I have a basic undestanding of proportions, it made sense in my head but not in the zbrush head (bad pun intended), so yeah I was suffering from self esteem because I couldn't sculpt a head... Then I decided to "follow" this, yeah I was kinda rushing it, but for a rough attempt I was able to actually make sense of these proportions in the zbrush head. Thank you very much!

Your humbleness overshadow your artful skill. Some artist dealing with the male/female anatomy go so high up that they believe they are Gods. Awesome knowledge of the distinctive features of the face anatomy. Thank you much for sharing your knowledge. I was just roaming around on this moonlight hours for something edifying to see when I caught sight of a familiar face features of a friend i knewed and stayed up right through until I was pop back to earth when the video ended. Thank you much for sharing your knowledge with others. We just try to emulate the art of the greatest artist there is: The true God.
@SpeedChar
@SpeedChar 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I don't know if some artist think of themselves as gods, but i know that part of our artistic searches and urges is the inner desire to feel more like a creator. Create our own creatures, worlds. To recreate life from simple objects, to give life even, however arrogant this may sound :). But the true dedicated artist will always know that he has a lot more to learn, and that there is always room for improvement. And that is also one of the most interesting parts of being an artist, the constant seek for improvement. So we are never completely happy with our work :).

I was skeptic when I clicked on the video. But I think you changed me from a box modeling, low poly to high poly, subdivision guy into a sculptor. I've watched sculptors before... their seemingly impeccable knowledge of anatomy has intimidated me. not saying that anatomy isn't important because of course it is. But for some reason your video here has made it more approachable in my brain. Thank you for the techniques. You just got one new subscriber.

It is the same and completely different from sculpting with clay. Clay is easy once you understand anatomy. Feeling the surface means a lot. Doing it digitally is much harder. No tactile feedback. Explaining to the computer what your hands automatically do to a surface is... frustrating. The tools are good, but there is so much more nuance to using your own hands on a surface. I've just started trying and my god, it is hard. I have to keep turning the thing to make sure I did what I thought I did. Then i have to turn it back and continue and the flow is lost. Maybe it is about getting used to a medium and I'll be fine one day.

Would have been better if you narrate the tool info, since you don't tell how you smoothing applying and removing clay shape. smoothing the vertices and stretching and contracting. That would have helped. While your current narration isn't helpful of how you making it practically. Its just what we see, you telling us what we are seeing !! Otherwise it would have been so helpful. Or is it for someone who know zbrush very well

I found ears much less intimidating once I understood the major parts, which are the helix (9 shape), anti-helix (y shape), tragus, anti-tragus and lobe. Once you understand those simple five things (mostly four, since everyone already knows what a lobe is) and the characteristics of each, it all comes together in the whole shape.

@SpeedChar Can you make a library of different facial features that you can just use and "paste" on the model you are working on, e.g., a collection of different noses, ears, eyes, etc. for the face, which I believe would be much faster and efficient? Pardon my silly question, I am a total noob on this and I am thinking of a way to speed up work on ZBrush if I will work on it as I am planning to focus on creating 3D art as both a hobby and a career.
