I think in this situation the best thing to do is realize that these are wild animals. We can do everything for the fish but there is still the fact that these are wild animals and they do wild animal things. Sorry for the loss Joey and I hope this helps in your grief

It's so cruel. You take something from its ecosystem and put it in a cage. You have no idea what you're doing honestly because they are wild animals. You don't know how their territorial behaviors translate in captivity. Humans can't leave anything alone. And then stuff like this happens. It's wrong.

A friend of mine who kept stingrays as well had a similar issue. A big pregnant female in a 24000 liter indoor pond (inside 250 square meter indoor "terrarium") killed 4 other stingrays in a 2 hour timeframe early in the morning. Water quality was good, food consistent, no temperature fluctuations, nothing special, just like what happened here. He had a camera inside the water for 24/7 monitoring and it started at the time that a male was breeding with a female. This was also the male who bred with her. To us when seeing it it was shocking, it was like if she was jealous or something. My friend at the time thought it could have been to protect strong DNA in their environment. Later this female had 2 pups in the same thank who are now growing like crazy. Thanks for sharing this video, it's not easy to film and share these things when you care for these fish such a long time.

I have just finished your video… I am sure you have friends… reach out if you need one more. Also, Jane Goodall knew chimpanzees better than anyone. Yet, she was stunned the day two clans went to war. They had never done anything like that before. She did not have a clue. If you had asked her about it the week or even the day before, she could not have thought her chimpanzees would likely do that. Afterwards, she knew she would need a lot of time to have more answers to the questions her experience had created. Years perhaps, in fact. Whatever you choose to do… I have a lot of respect for that. I am glad men like you are putting content like you put up on KZbin. Again thanks.

Sorry to hear. I’m in the same boat right now. My wet pet green terror cichlid that I’ve had for almost 4 years now got spooked and ran into driftwood and it messed up his swim bladder. He’s been slowly going downhill over the past two weeks. I think it’s about time to call it quits. Similar to you, I have a baby discus I’m growing out in the sump of the tank that’s doing amazing, eating tons, growing, so it’s likely not a water problem or disease. I’ve done what I can , I do my water changes I’ve gotten advice from more experienced keepers, it’s all I can do. It makes me feel better knowing I’ve done everything right, but it’s that much more frustrating when you’ve done everything right and it still doesn’t work out for you.

I remember hearing, somewhere, a story of a bamboo shark raised from a pup that one day, after growing fairly large, suddenly turned aggressive and killed other animals in the tank. It was like a light switch went off after no prior issues. That may just be a risk with these kinds of animals. In the wild there's almost unlimited room for running away, but if they always got away the males would never be able to mate the females, so clearly no tank size or design is a guarantee of eliminating this sort of thing.

When a female gets pregnant she feels that she will need to protect her young by killing everything that believes is a threat. The other female by getting pregnant by the male is a threat, the male itself is a threat. That's why you need to separate the prego one temp then she can be back with everyone after she has the pups. Sorry that happened to you but that's the way we learned for disgrace because sometimes it's not too much info in exotics and we can only learn when crap happens. And I know it sucks when it happens. They were beautiful! 😢. And she will hunt the others that she didn't do this time because she is prego and she is going to be more aggressive until the pups come out. Try to use a 300+ (you know, bigger the better) gal tub for her only until she gives birth. Then she can be back. A few exotics are like that because they are not in the hobby long enough and/or not too popular because of their size. After she had the pups separate the pups(but you know that) then wait a few weeks like 3 to introduce her back it's for her hormones to get stable and everything will be back to normal.
