This reminds me of an episode of my favourite childhood cartoon "Hungarian Folk Tales: The Diligent Girl and the Lazy Girl" where the hardworking girl groomed a neglected dog and a year later the same dog grew his fur full of pearls. Maybe a better option would be curled ribbon hair? A couple spools of that thin holiday ribbon and a pair of scissors to curl it. It comes in all different colors and finishes; matte black or holographic silver, etc.
