I was taught the 3,4,5 rule for square. Once your strings are laid out, measure 3' from corner or intersection of one string. Then measure 4' from corner and intersection of the opposite string. Now measure between the 3' and 4' marks and if it is truly square it will always equal 5'. When it doesnt just move one string until those two marks meet at 5' . then once one corner is square you just continue off that true corner only moving strings that have not been squared using 3,4,5 until you end back at your first true squared corner. Works well any size square and doing it by yourself. Anyone can easily measure 3 feet, 4 feet and 5 feet. And it is really easy to remember and you always have this tool or method with you! And I'm not a carpenter but an electrician originally; but found this knowledge "priceless"! Lol😂

How will this stand up to wind? After you pounded the posts in you were tweaking the alignment by yanking on the post. If just pulling the post sideways with one persons body weight is enough to bend the posts then once the sheet metal goes on wouldn't a wind storm exert a much higher load? Looking the end profile of the metal post it seems strong in the same direction as the fence but not so much perpendicular to the fence line. The profile is sort of bowler hat whereas I would have expected a more top hat fashion choice.

Love your videos and this fence idea! I read through the comments and didn't see this mentioned yet. I just wanted to mention that i noticed the overlap on the steel panels is backwards (not that it matters on this fence). The side of the panel that has the tiny flange should lay flat, and the other end that looks half finished lays on top of that. As you work down from where you started, this flanged end gives rigidity and strength for the half finished end. When the half finished end overlaps, it pushes tightly against the ridge it covers, creating a seamless look.

Unfortunately those steel post's are Dmed expensive, but they are easy and they work. This summer I rebuilt an RV gate, 14ft wide using stained (weather treatment for longevity) and the red plastic(?) roofing from Home Depot. Looks great, it's 200 pounds liter than using redwood and has already survived 35 mph wind here in Cal. Also wrapped a small shed in the green stuff, blends right in with the trees.

Speaking of home depot. I had some bowed walls I was replacing drywall on and my thought was to grab some bowed 2x4s from the delivery I had received a few days ago and and sister them in with the bowed going the opposite way so it pulls the wall straight. But to my disappointment, they were all straight for once.

I did the line movement thing you talked about and ended up giving my neighbor about two feet by the end of my property. So from 0 to 2ft in 450 feet. I had already dug and set all the posts by the time I realized so I just said to heck with it and congratulated him on the extra space. Oh well 🤷🏼♂️

Thank you for helping your sister! You had me laughing so hard! I enjoy watching your videos, in part, because your behaviors remind me of one of my brothers that I lost a couple years ago. He picked on me a lot when we were young, and our older brother, who passed a couple years before him, was always in the middle defending me. About a year before he passed he was very sorry for the way he treated me and apologized. I told him there was no apology necessary but I accepted it. I barely remember those incidents but I do remember working on his car with him sometimes, helping him partially finish the basement, helping him put in a drop ceiling in the dining room and motorcycle rides. Blessings of love and light to all!

There is a reason fences have holes on them. this fence will be a projectile in a major storm. The wind will rip those post right out. My opinion.
@patconine95692 ай бұрын
I wondered about the wind's effect on it.
@gparsons3202 ай бұрын
Thank you for saying that! That was all I could think of the entire time he was building this. Here in the Midwest, there aren't enough nails/screws that would 100% keep all that from blowing right off of there in a big storm. Maybe he lives where there's no wind?
@TheIndemnifier2 ай бұрын
these fences usually only last to the first 65 mph windstorm. The wind cannot pass through so they basically destroy themselves in time. Great video though, thumbs up and subscribe from me!

@@bullzeyez3236 I see these fences all over the rust belt and the Appalachians very common, my point is they do not last very long. They are so common because they are cheap and fast to put up. I was referring to liking and subscribing to the maker of this video, not me, I do not have any content. Sorry you are so confused. lol

@richreeves81402 ай бұрын
@@HAXMAN Just shared the video with one of the "look like crap" guys. He changed his mind! Since the cabin has two-tone metal siding, the plan is to do the fence the same way, so it looks more like an extension of the cabin. Of course, that could change. Plans keep doing that! 🤣

I used to put up pole barns. To make screw placement quicker, stack roofing sheets and punch holes at the desired positions. (The holes will go through several sheets) This does two things, makes the screw lines straight and aids faster screw attachment.
