I was taught the 3,4,5 rule for square. Once your strings are laid out, measure 3' from corner or intersection of one string. Then measure 4' from corner and intersection of the opposite string. Now measure between the 3' and 4' marks and if it is truly square it will always equal 5'. When it doesnt just move one string until those two marks meet at 5' . then once one corner is square you just continue off that true corner only moving strings that have not been squared using 3,4,5 until you end back at your first true squared corner. Works well any size square and doing it by yourself. Anyone can easily measure 3 feet, 4 feet and 5 feet. And it is really easy to remember and you always have this tool or method with you! And I'm not a carpenter but an electrician originally; but found this knowledge "priceless"! Lol😂

I may have missed it but are the screws and washers galvanized too? Important for rust. Stainless screws would eat the zinc coating then the steel panel out, allowing the panel to come off in wind. I’d go nuts and spray Wurth Zinc Perfect spray onto all the hardware day before use.
@AleXBC360Ай бұрын
Love your videos and this fence idea! I read through the comments and didn't see this mentioned yet. I just wanted to mention that i noticed the overlap on the steel panels is backwards (not that it matters on this fence). The side of the panel that has the tiny flange should lay flat, and the other end that looks half finished lays on top of that. As you work down from where you started, this flanged end gives rigidity and strength for the half finished end. When the half finished end overlaps, it pushes tightly against the ridge it covers, creating a seamless look.

Pressure treated 4x4s in concrete installed over 20 years ago. All are/were still rock hard. I just removed 3/4s of them to expand the fence and switch to a steel fence instead of wood. But no, they are not guaranteed to rot in any reasonable time. I'd love to see you put those steel posts into the ground in my area, its called Rock Cliff for a reason. You can't even use a power auger for more than a foot,

You can also run a string to keep your screw rows nice and straight

THIS is the solution for my need for a fence at a rental. Are there rental places that rent the post pounder? Last time I checked, they were a little North of 3K. By the way...TOTAL BANGERS!!!

Love the detail in the video instructions. It’s nice to be able to be an independent home owner capable of doing most of your own repairs and upgrades on a home. The only downside is all these expensive tools. That post digger is top notch awesome! I have lots of good friends and family, but no one has had anything like that for me to barrow. And I sure the heck can not afford the $2,900+ price tag on that thing. So little ol self is stuck digging holes and flopping in the wooden fence post now. Unless I can barrow your digger. 😂😂 Great video and you have my subscription. ❤

Speaking of home depot. I had some bowed walls I was replacing drywall on and my thought was to grab some bowed 2x4s from the delivery I had received a few days ago and and sister them in with the bowed going the opposite way so it pulls the wall straight. But to my disappointment, they were all straight for once.

I might have missed it, but what is the wind rating for this fence? We have had to replace wind blown fences with a regularity that brings smiles to the contractor’s faces hereabouts! This look awful solid to me, how will it do once the wind blows?

Thank you for helping your sister! You had me laughing so hard! I enjoy watching your videos, in part, because your behaviors remind me of one of my brothers that I lost a couple years ago. He picked on me a lot when we were young, and our older brother, who passed a couple years before him, was always in the middle defending me. About a year before he passed he was very sorry for the way he treated me and apologized. I told him there was no apology necessary but I accepted it. I barely remember those incidents but I do remember working on his car with him sometimes, helping him partially finish the basement, helping him put in a drop ceiling in the dining room and motorcycle rides. Blessings of love and light to all!

Fence looks great but ... question ... why didn't you top it with the metal fence cover? The wood is eventually going to warp. We made sure our new house had no wood exposed to the elements because I was tired of the warping and cracking. It looks nice though you did a great job! We used the same 'diving rods' 'Witching sticks' to locate water to dig our well ... it worked perfectly! We also have a metal fence ... awesome! Our last one was still going strong 10+ years.

Pressure treated wood won’t warp except in extreme drought conditions.

@@sreilly Not sure where you get your information but that sounds like something the high school kid working at Home Depot told you. I've been building homes for 50 years and pressure treated wood warps just like any other wood, wet or dry. It all has to do with moisture content of the wood, the species of wood, and the grain of the wood. Pressure treated wood is construction grade soft wood, usually spruce, pine or fir. As soon as you pop the bands (straps) on the bunk, or lift, dimensional lumber, including that which has been pressure treated, begins to twist and turn. In the business, we don't break the bands, on any dimensional lumber, until the last possible moment before we can nail it down, or together. The pressure treating process is a process where a chemical is forced into the cells of the wood using high pressure while inside of a vacuum chamber. Its purpose is to increase resistance to moisture, rot, and insects. It has nothing to do with increasing the structural integrity of the lumber cells or fibers.

Astounding that the fence could tolerate the wind loads. If there’s a prevailing wind maybe set up with screws put in windward?
@WheatSupremeКүн бұрын
I was lookin for this comment. He mentioned the bad storm and built a giant wind sail. If the storm was strong enough to knock trees over it would be strong enough to rip the screws right out of that fence and send 6 foot floppy metal knives shooting across the property.
