Fence Flood Gate

This week we set up a flood gate in a fence over a creek. The idea behind the design is to use simple materials to create a flexible barrier that can withstand high water flows and return to position without drama.

So...when the creek rises only 15 - 20cm, contacts the lowest hanging tube and grounds out the whole shebang, where does the charge come from to deter stock moving past it?

Great vid! A tip for cutting irrigation tube is use secateurs rather than a blade, quicker & safer 😊

Thanks Tim, brilliant video. I spent some time on a large sheep property where they had these gates. The property owner referred to them as "China" gates, not sure why but they had been built using corrugated sheets. Which was not successful and required a lot of work when they did get heavy rain. The system that Daniel has come up with looks the business. I am just a frustrated hobby farmer, but I get so much info aka education from video's like, Thanks again. Cheers, merry Christmas

Might be alright for cattle but not for sheep as the just walk through it. Ps possibly better with a stronger wire above pipe weights to keep in place too

I agree, I have found chain less likely to tangle. Also wallabies still use these barriers to gain access even when electrified. Just had 3 meters of flood over my chain flood fence, no damage.

@@graybeard6687 I had the pleasure of 12 weeks at Casino in the BlazeAid camp earlier this year. We did a similar job for a farmer, almost identical land situation. For our it was wire rope as the stretcher then wire droppers and lengths of bamboo as the weights. I guess you use what you have to hand. I wish I had thought of the poly pipe spacers, that would have made tying off a lot easier.

Toys by George the great thing about chain you don't need spacers, I hog clipped the chain droppers onto the chain top line it just hang like a metal curtain, connected this to the electric fence with a earth leakage diverter so it didn't shut down the whole fence when the water came upto the fence, so when the water was up in the creek it was only the flood fence that was out but the remainder of the fence was still hot.
