I'm honoured to have produced a stop-motion animated advert for the Bluebell Railway's oldest locomotive Fenchurch, who turns 150 this summer and is having a 3 day celebration from 29th-31st JULY 2022.
There will be visiting Terriers running, a collection of vintage vehicles on display and a toy and train collector's fair. Do come and wish the birthday engine well.

Amazing, love this behind the scenes video and I recently discoverd that Camberwick green and all that are in Sussex on the fictional Britain map so that train in Chigley was definitely inspired by the Bluebell railway. :)

It only felt right to make an advert for the railway in the same style. I was amazed when I found out the place names were inspired by a triangle in Sussex of three places.

I love the art style, it looks like it was made out of arts and crafts but still look like something connected to reality in a way. Fantastic job

I wanted them to look like a storybook illustration with a lot of pastel colours, showing it's all hand crafted and leaving imperfections like fingerprints here and there, but also provide enough realism to suggest that it is a real, liveable world that we're looking at. Thanks very much!

Dude this was one of the most epic things I've ever seen. I loved the sequence itself and have watched it a few times over. Sadly can't make it to the real event however good luck with future projects! P.s thanks for the advice with my terrier, my friend has done a cosmetic overhaul on her and we're gonna remove the smoke box wingplates with a craft knife or something similar so thanks for all your help mate.

I would love to make another Ivor animation in future, or anything in that 2D style. If I do, I'll make a more in-depth video showing how it's made. The Terriers in this video were all cut-outs and the rods moved by hand.

After watching the animation itself, I have to say I'm very impressed. Not only is there clay stopmotion, but cut out animation too. How long did it take you to put the whole thing together?

Thanks so much! Everything was done start-finish in approximately 1 month and a half, but typically I'd have more time to work on something like this. That includes making all of the models, sets and puppets. Animating itself was a relatively short time in comparison.

How did you make fenchurch roll

There will be a BTS video in a few weeks showing how the entire engine was made. The wheels were made from card on wooden axles in eyelet bearings.
