Do you make the barbed wire hot the same way you make normal wire hot? What kind of box do you have to electrify it?

One thing I'd recommend is a nice strong 15 mile energizer. I got a 2 mile one with a similar wire setup and most of the goats didn't want anything to do with it, but one of them was licking the wire... I thought it wasn't working, so I grabbed the wire... It was hot.. haha. I guess it was good she did it, because where I'm at, there's a ton of predators and if she could lick the wire, it's sure not going to keep a bear or wolf out. Nice video!

I'm new to all of this. After how many feet are you using a wood post? I saw your comment about using a t-post every 6 feet. Thanks for the great video.

i usually just put a wooden post in a bend or turn in the fence

It seems like a good set-up, but are you worried about the dangers? Like if an animal of a person gets caught on it and can't get loose and gets shocked over and over? Plus, I thought I heard somewhere that it was illegal to electrify barbed wire. I don't know about that, I could be wrong. I like your set up for sure. I have a couple of jumpers that need a higher fence like yours. Thanks for the info!

I’ve never heard that about barbed wire but I can tell you I been around barbed wire all my life and it’s always been electrified and I’ve never once seen an animal get hurt by it. Now myself on the other hand have gotten caught in it a time or two 🤣

Ya had any trouble with the insulators getting brittle over time and breaking off? Also do you only have one strand electrified?

Would ONE wire be enough (like what Greg Judy uses - one electrified wire) ?
@lawsonlawnandfarm8073

Not with goats. One wire will work with sheep cattle and pigs but the old saying goes if you can see through it then a goat can get out of it haha

After one year of use, how did your electric fence do with keeping the goats in? Anything you’d change if you built it again? Thanks

How did you get the wire tight?
@lawsonlawnandfarm8073
@lawsonlawnandfarm8073 Жыл бұрын
It’s probably not the proper way but I keep it tight as I can then once I’m done I take a pair of pliers and twist it just one round in several places till it’s tight

I have an idiot billy who loves to stand on the fence....60 inch 2x4 woven wire at about 320 bucks which is now all jacked up two years later.... I am now going back to trusty electric like i have for my horse but never thot of using barbed wire for it....i imagine that will definitely keep the billy off the fence....????? Your take?
@lawsonlawnandfarm8073

Yes as long as you have enough strands that he can’t just through it.

where are you buying your barred wire? You never mentioned how much area you fence with the barred wire. I would like to fence in 3 acres

Most of the time I get it at our local farm store. Total we’ve got at least 25-30 acres fenced in barbed wire in my opinion it’s by far the cheapest way

Not a good idea to electrify barb wire, very cruel to the animal if it get caught in it. Smooth wire only for electric!!

Never had a problem in the past my friend. We’ve had “hot” barbed wire all my life. In fact I’ve never once heard of a situation where an animal got stuck in barbed wire electric or not
