The most important component of the fence. Great explanation of load transfer through the rail and strut wire. I was watching closely and pleased to see you didn't wind the strut wire together. I like a streight pull and as you said it doesn't have to be so tight, the fence wires will load it up as you strain them. A bit of oil helps the strut wire run around the posts during tightening and a gripple is a good idea. Far better than a double loop knot. We all have our tricks and I have never heard about the wicking of water back up the post. I find they drive better upside down but I always bury the ugly end. Dog gave lots of support during the hard work. Give him a pat from me please.

Hi David, I am glad you enjoyed it. That’s a good tip about the oil, I will try that on the next one. I use to put a stick between the wires and twist them, that’s the way all toe old fences round here are done, but I like the straight wires better. This is about the only time I use gripples. They do make this job easer. Nipper is always good moral support. He is sitting here next to me as I eat lunch and type this. Thanks from Geoffrey
