Fencing Match turns into Wrestling Match

Tokyo Olympic Bronze Medalist 🥉 Alexander Choupenitch and Davide Filippi unexpectedly go to the ground in their Table of 16 match at the Busan Foil Fencing Grand Prix 😅 One of the most intense matches of the competition, Choupenitch dominated in the first half, but only narrowly stopped a comeback by Filippi that started just after this clip, eventually winning the bout 15 - 12.

Filippi's luckyto get only a red. Choupenitch falls by accident and he jostles and kicks. Not Sportsmanlike behaviour, would have been enough to go home if I was the ref

@Noah Gollnick That's true for sure, he had to make a decision. Lot of pressure as the referee, and Choupenitch was already winning the bout. If he was losing then maybe procedure would have escalated a bit more, who knows.

In my opinion, if not for kicks, I would say it's Choupenitch's corps a corps (and potentially card him). Filippi pushed him away so that Choup didn't fall on him. The kick tho, is 100% unnecessary

I understand it can be shocking to see offensive behavior like the kick from Filippi but put yourself in his shoes, he's 3-12 down and honestly the prime from Choupenitch was quite aggressive since he knocked him over with his hips so there have been far worse expressions of aggressive behavior from athletes. The kick was unnecessary, understandable why he got a red, but don't really understand why people are going down hard on Filippi.
