With respect to flèche attacks, KZbin allowing viewers to set the video speed sure is useful! This example analyzes the flèche in an elite setting. Fair enough, but I’d like to hear informed opinions on how (and when) less experienced fencers could employ the attack. 🤺

Well, they screwed over saber fencers being able to utilize this particular scenario but the main idea works in any OTHER sport. Set a pattern that your opponent responds to. You have to be experienced enough to set a pattern and see that your opponent is responding to it. If you know baseball, think fastball fastball fastball curve or, even better, curve curve curve fastball. But you shouldn't do the same pattern over and over. Do your fleche when you think your opponent is expecting something slow or non-offensive and preferably when they are taking a half-step or hop forward.

His distance was "just right", plus the opponent was pretty responsive to his moves, making him easier to lead. Kolobkov landed a perfect combination in this one!

Kolobkov used a pistol grip (Visconti type) in all the photos I've seen.
