An Electric Guitar that's older than Rock-n-Roll! A reminder that Leo Fender's original target market was Jazz, Hillbilly (and I use the term with the greatest respect), and Western Swing players.

@@TylerJohnstonGuitar Actually, there's a great book by Forrest White, the original Fender Plant Manager, called "Fender, The Inside Story" that documents that Leo Fender copied a number of design ideas from a one off guitar built by Paul Bigsby. There's a photo of Bigsby's guitar in the book too. It's a great book that debunks a lot of stories dreamed up by others who never worked for or with Leo Fender.

Michael Lemmo…representin’ my beloved city of Philadelphia (well, actually, I grew up in South Jersey, but it’s all the same). And I’m a diehard, lifelong Flyers fan! Knew there’s something extraordinarily special about you Michael, aside from your masterful playing. 😉 Honestly, you have a very special gift, and that is your ability to instinctively draw out the specialness and unique quality of every guitar you play. Hang on to this guy, Norm!

I feel so sorry for Norm having to part with this absolute treasure, so commiserations, Norm! But as you so rightly said, you at least have the assurance that it is going to the right person, none other than our favourite Blues/Rock guitarist, Joe Bonamassa! You know that he will look after it and I hope we'll see him wail away on it at some stage in the future. Thanks for filming this historical gem for us, Jen! We can get to drool over it as much as we like to. 😅

Leo Fender would be proud...That amazing workhorse could totally do metal too 🙂🙂 I often use my Teles and Esquires in my metal band because they cut through the mix like no other guitar would... The fact that it's a "senior" guitar and it still sounds like that speaks volumes about its design...

The solder on the ash tray is how they attached the wire to hang the part in the tank for nickel plating. Most parts have a convenient place to attach wire such as holes, etc. When a part is shaped such that it isn't easy to hang with wire often times soldering a wire to the part in an inconspicuous spot is the best way to maintain the electrical connection which is necessary when electroplating any part. Simply breaking off the wire after the plating is finished leaves a small spot of solder.

I feel privileged to have played the heck out of my uncles broadcaster. It was giving to him by the family friend who lived in a house at the end of our driveway. Their kids and us kids all played together. Me and my uncle Jim where called Jimmy and Johnny. The gifter r.i.p. Gloria told us to come over she has something for Jimmy. She handed it to him from out of her closet. It was all painted black. Including the headstock. Had a white pearl like pickguard( probably hand made). Bridge cover was already off. Excitedly we took it down to the garage. And lightly sanded off the black paint on the headstock. First we saw Fender appear. Yay we thought. Then Broadcaster, we looked at each other,,,huh. Never heard of it. He still has that guitar. We took turns playing it for a long time. True story .

That Broadcaster is one of the best-sounding guitars I’ve ever heard. It helps that Lemmo’s playing it! And it’s as old as I am, or I’m as old as it is…It’s just as well that I don’t have Joe Bonamassa’s budget, because I’d have to change the wiring to the post-‘67 modern setup, and I couldn’t justify modding a piece of history like that. I’d do it to a reissue in a heartbeat, as I don’t want the preset dark circuit, but not on an original!
