I've snatched a AM Performer Precision a few months ago and ist a blast. Two weeks ago I went to my local guitar shop to look after another Precision for Flats. Played three different Players, one American Professional I, one American Professional II, a Vintera, a Vintage 1978 (almost broke my back, friggin heavy) and two Custom Shop Precisions. Plus some Squier Precisions, Jaguars, Jazz Basses and for the fun of it short scale Mustangs and Gretsch Junior Jets. Oh, and there also was this AM Performer Precision in OW - it blew all others out of the water. But I've saved my money and will look for a used one in LPB. tl;dr: Great Bass!

I’m a guitar player that’s been playing more bass recently and I joined a cover band as a bass player. I was looking for the right bass to compliment the MIM Fretless Player I bought a few months ago, which is also white but with a white pick guard. It was a toss up between this Performer or the Player Plus, which I liked because of the price point, but I didn’t want active controls. I ended buying this exact model after watching your review. There were many I watched but your review kind of solidified my decision. It really is a killer bass and is gonna see the stage quit a bit. It was the right choice for me without breaking the bank. And I gotta admit, I love that it’s called the ‘Performer.’ Cheers.

That's the bass I would get should I finally decide to graduate from the Player Series Precision one that Fender currently has out. I've always dug that particular pickup configuration, like having the best of both worlds without needing to buy two separate basses. If Fender can produce a left-handed/3-tone Sunburst/maple fretboard version of this model, then they've pretty much reeled me in as far as I'm concerned. Top-notch review, by the way! ;-)

I just bought one off Sweat Water and got it last week. I love the retro 60's 3 tone and black pick guard. The neck feels nice to. But I hate the pick ups. Way to noisy. They pick up every click. Im replacing them with New EMG X Noiseless pick ups. Many Luthiers agree the EMG Noiseless Pick Ups are much better than Fenders Noiseless pick ups. And Im ditching the crappy Bridge for a Babicz. Level the frets and recrown. Then it should play better and sound great!

OK so I bought one last week in 3 tone sunburst and rosewood fingerboard. It plays and sounds great and has a wide variety if classic tones that will more than meet my needs at shows and studio recordings. Unfortunately that's where it ends. Here are the quality control issues: 1. Wood across the front of the body is 3 piece instead of the 2 piece in all the photos I have seen 2. The match of the wood joints is terrible. Extremely obvious where the joints are terrible. So obvious where the joints are. 3. Looks like there is a magic marker line under the clear coat on the front of the bass. This one should have been rejected and sent to the line for a paint finish. 4. The Fender logo on the headstock is off and part of the A on the word Bass is missing 5. There is a tiny divit on the back of the neck 6. There is a small divit in the rosewood on the 6th fret. Bringing it back today and will probably take a shot on ordering another one. May go safe on a paint finish this time. Went with this one over the Professional II because of the added J pickup and better input jack. The Pro II does have a better bridge, a more classic feel and look and comes with a case which I really do note care about since I have plenty of them.

Well, i proudly own a Sandberg P. I used to play a Player Series P, but the fretwork on the Mexican instruments is like it's on all ,,cheap" instruments: bad! You cannot have a low string action without fret buzz. Since i'm used to play my Sandberg which built quality is boutique like, i have a hard time with American made instruments because they very often lack quality control and precision. Sure the American series play slightly nicer, but the price tag is so not worth it. I can mod a Squire PJ and get it to the point where for me it surpasses any American model. Also, the placement of the trussrod access for these models are just stupid. Having to remove the pickguard every time to make neck adjustments will eventually strip the holes for the pickguard screws.

@@RumblinMan The 1200$ price was a surprise. Can you specify the advantages comparing to Squier? The sound, for sure, is not.
@RumblinMan4 жыл бұрын
www.Marko right. I feel ya. Sure, for one thing, the Fender is a much better-built bass than any of the Squier PJ basses (the only current Squier PJ’s being the Affinity and the Vintage Modified). I’ve used the Squier Vintage Modified PJ, and I don’t like it. I tended to think that the pickups on that bass sounded even worse than these, and that the build quality on the Squier was below my expectations. That particular model is also prone to electric issues. The American Performer is extremely well-built with excellent woods and hardware; they also made it easy to make action adjustments. Where they messed up, though, is that, like we’re talking about, the pickups just don’t sound good. That means if you drop $1200 on the bass, you’re also gonna drop $200 on some good pickups, and that’s a total of $1400 dropped... for that kind of cash, it would be MUCH better to go with a Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ, which is superior to both the Fender and the Squier in terms of feel and sound. If you’re looking for a slightly more budget-friendly PJ bass, however, I recommend the Sire Marcus Miller P7 4-string.

Sounds really good, but I would pick a G&L bass if I could only have one. Specifically a L-2000, or L-2500 if I was gonna go 5 string. I feel Fenders are overpriced right now. Just my personal opinion.

Chris Davis thanks for the kind words bro! I haven’t played G&L much but would love to check one out.

Rumblin Man I didn’t mean to sound like I was putting Fender down. I just feel like G&L is a better bang for your buck. Lots more color options, especially with the American made ones. The Tribute models are made in Indonesia. I’ve had Tributes & an American made G&L. I really like them both. I currently have a JB-2 Tribute Jazz Bass that is my main bass right now. It’s the one I’m most comfortable with. Yeah, if you get to check out any G&L, do it! I dont play electric guitar, but G&L’s electric guitars are pretty cool too. Just sayin’. 👍🏻 Catch ya later, dude.
