FENDER AND HOOD REPAIR MERCEDES W108 PART 1

As my shirt say's "Just One More Thing":)
Now that the subframe is back in the car it's time to turn my attention to the body repairs. The drivers side is damaged and will need replacing. I want to replace the passenger side too, also repaint the hood to match. This first video is just removing the panels so I can start prepping for the paint and new fenders.

I also enjoy Columbo seeing all the old Classics. Lots of 107 SL's. Apparently devious Murderers like those:) I did see an episode once with Leonard Nimoy, he was driving a w108. Very Logical:):) Hope the projects are going well Marek. Cheers John.

Very good coverage of bodywork and mechanicals of the W108/9 chassis, invaluable for anyone working on these cars. Remembering Colombo, he was the best. And then there was McCloud, McMillan & Wife, Chief Ironside, Barreta and the Teli Savalas stared one......all on a Sony Trinitron. Those were the good old days.🍃

Excellent video as always John. Very informative and helpful. I have also found that with restoration and repair work hat there is usually "One more thing". Still watch the re-runs of Colombo and McCloud on KZbin. There were always interesting cars. Two episodes of Colombo featured a 1969 280se cab and one episode of McCloud featured a 600 Pullman. It was a different time that is missed

With the prices of an original fender ($500 last I looked ), saving those two is very good idea. I'd even try pulling out the left fender: weld a tab on the inside edge of the bucket, chain to a tree, and back up the car carefully. The side ripples can be hammer and dollyed flat with some careful work. Even repairing the rusted bucket is not hard when you know how to weld and bend some metal. I highly recommend watching Yorkshire car restorations on YT for lots of good welding, metal bending, etc. Nice to see you on again. Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. I actually have two already nearly finished. They just need another coat to match the hood. I also have another two from my spare parts car. So I'm a bit spoilt for choice. Also I desperately want this one back on the road asap. I'm itching to get back to the 6.3. But you're right with a little work they could be saved. I do actually watch the YT channel you suggested.
