"We can talk until we're blue in the face about the plethora of reasons why Jimi Hendrix was the greatest player to ever strap on a Strat. No one has ever matched his blend of virtuosic instrumental prowess, intense emotional expression, Picasso-level attention to the colors and hues in his music, and masterful songwriting, but what really puts him head and shoulders above the rest of every other six-string slinger is his universal appeal. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, loves Jimi Hendrix.
Case in point: Ian Mackaye and Stevie Ray Vaughan could not be more different as people or guitarists. Mackaye was the singer and guitarist in legendary post-hardcore band Fugazi (a group about as far removed from the psychedelic rock of the seventies as humanly possible) while SRV was perhaps the greatest master of electric blues since Hendrix himself. Despite their immense musical, philosophical, geographic, and stylistic differences, both listed Hendrix as their favorite guitarist of all time by a wide margin.
So, it doesn't matter if you're a punk in a leather jacket laden with safety pins, a metalhead in a Motorhead shirt, a jazz cat with an expensive hat, a classic rocker with a closet full of vintage concert tees, or a regular 'ol non-musician who listens to whatever's on the radio: chances are, if someone asks you who your favorite guitarist is, Hendrix is going to be one of the first names out of your mouth. If you ever ask someone this question and they DON'T drop Jimi's name, report them to the authorities immediately, because they are not to be trusted, and are probably a lizard person or alien in disguise.

yeah... making the bass strings the longest strings on the head-stock so they are rubbing the string retainers... And please, don't hesitate to say Jimi Hendrix was murdered. Hey! The way Jimi toggled to get the bridge and middle pickup on together wasn't so much about the softening effect of that mild phasing, but having two pickups on at once like a spread out humbucker, having a greater range for string feel.

I will never understand why they left out a 7.25" neck radius. If you're gonna be authentic, be authentic....I play that radius and even though I suck, I never fret out. It takes a little bit of playing to get 100% used to it, but once you are, the benefits outweigh the minor drawbacks. I find it much easier to play with my thumb. Plus, if a 7.25" radius is good enough for literally every "guitar hero" who ever played a vintage Strat (radius was ~7.25" up through the late 1970s), it's good enough for the chosen few who care enough about an authentic guitar to pay $4,500+ for one. Just my $0.02

Guys, please, go back to whichever amp you were using for overdriven tones like 2-3 years ago. I assume you have some deal with Friedman, but it really does not sound that good. The sound is always over-saturated, almost fuzzy, mids are weak and the amp sounds too compressed. Maybe it feels all right in the room, but when recorded, it is not great. There is a reason we love these videos and it's Greg and his abilities, but I just can't enjoy his playing with those horrible fart sounds coming out of that Friedman.

Greg is awesome of course. Janie Hendrix, Jimi's half-sister who inherited Jimi's estate because Jimi's dad Al tried to fuck him, is and had been milking the Hendrix name for every last penny through her Experience Hendrix, Ltd company. It started as a legitimate effort to get Jimi's music and rights back from all those who fucked him through the years, an effort led by a great guy, John McDermott. But once the lawsuits were settled and rights were back where they should be Janie hooked up the milking machine to the teet and has been running it 24/7 for all its worth. Jimi played stock Strats off the rack from Mannys. Bad selection of left hand guitars so he took right handed ones and flipped them. The Hendrix sound comes from Jimi's fingers and massive hands. He'd sound Jimi no matter what fucking guitar he played. So get your own sound, don't fall for this expensive bullshit, because I can tell you one person who would never fall for this crap: Jimi Hendrix.

Saying "Picasso-level" isn't the best painters analogy. I'd say Vincent Van Gogh, swirls of colours with motion, not an abstract rationalist like Picasso. If there's one big thing you can say about seeing Jimi Hendrix, it's saying seeing Jimi Hendrix changed my life. Don't be shy! Jimi woulda thrown in fast jazz riffs if he could. an don'make Nicolo Paganini died in vain. I'm paying new millennium dues, watching Jimi-style KZbins.

It sounds great the relic looks great the neck anyway. But really the White reversed I have Signature not the crapy Monterey. It has the 65 grey bottoms reversed bridge and magnet pegs. But no custom shop stamp and I have a Tweed case Fender for it. Really is it Worth the change as mine sounds great I dropped CTS pots and cloth wire with a orange drop cap into it. So Amy pensioner Australia so huge money over here for customshop. But with the grey bottom Fender pick ups my upgrade pots wire cap. Am I better waiting. As I can prob add one more Guitar to my collection of older good USA strats 62 and the real standard a Clapton and black top also a nice blue deluxe with the one button s1. So a customshop or there 57 Tweed 5watt hand wired amp. As my other few are Fender tubes. I’m getting older army pension ptsd. So just want that one customshop as have a les Paul Gibson Traditional. So it’s hard a custom Hendrix that may not be a real improve or the 57 Tweed. Or wait and find a better customshop. But the amp tempting. As I have the tools and knowledge to wire and pot change plus fret crown and edge. So really what you think as Fender Australia I have to special order the hendrix 2018 but the 57 Tweed over priced to u guys but Is power fixed to 240v??? Honest answer maybe. Lol. As AUSSIE dollar and New rules hard to even order from you guys with out all this new added tax and crap. Cheers.

Good and bad. Looks like a good-sounding axe, hard to tell if the playability is a bit 'tight' from watching Greg fight it a bit. And looks neat overall yet unfortunately that finish does not look very professionally-aged under those particular lights (just looks swirl-marked and knocked around, not 'old.') *Love the general idea.* At $6,200 Canadian w/tx these seem far more expensive than they need to be for what is such a basic Fender, but I bet licensing the Hendrix family name is costly. I'd still probably *enjoy one in funky Lake Placid Blue* since I really liked an original in that color. It even sounded old and blue and worn in. Lovely. I see the resale price of earlier 'Hendrix-y' maple-cap-board Strat reissues is taking off as well. Even Japan models. The first '97 USA Voodoo (not Tribute) Stratocasters were made like these new CS ones, they had amazing necks & I should have grabbed the only used one I ever saw for $650, now over three grand. The '97 USA Hendrix Tributes are now even more, closer to 4k and nobody wanted them 20 years ago. *So that's encouraging value retention for buying the new one?* And sorry, but *whose 'Signature' are these, doesn't the artist have to volunteer that?* How on earth could Hendrix have materialized at FMI and dreamed up this model, haha. Anyway I'm sure they'll sell well and keep their 'CS signature model' value whether people play them or just collect them as mint. You'd THINK they were designed to play since 1) they are great design for tone and 2) they are not a replica of anything JMH ever touched in his life. Some say expensive guitars don't get played. I'll wait and see if one can be had for less, to actually play as my main Stratocaster. And if wealthy collectors buy them all up first, that's OK too.

The story tells that Jimi used to remove the 3 way switch spring to ease the in between positions. If you look at him live, you can see him working his way to these in between positions and continuously checking that he is still there.... With his guitar upside down, he could easily touch the switch by accident.

Even though I'm only in my thirties, I also picked up the guitar because I wanted to play like Hendrix like Greg. Still love black and white strats for that reason. I respect SRV and many others after Jimi, but no else ever did it for me the same way. In the sixth grade, I had a project where we had to make an advertisement, mine was for strats. I also tried to name all my inter muralteams in school "The Purple Haze." Kind of like Greg and his 3rd grade project where he wrote about Hendrix. Now if I could only play guitar like Greg or even better Hendrix, that would be awesome.

You might not like that headstock, but it's a real player's setup these days. Easier to tune, easier to mount the tuner. I can dig it.

LOL that would be your sacred right, Sirrah, and far be it from me to dissuade you. I will point out, however, that I do believe I receive several Internets for using "dissuade" in narrative discourse. Which sounds dirty, but isn't.

I love the look of the upside-down over-sized headstock, but I also like the look of an upside-down strat.

Strings are easier to bend too! More slack on the high E! The low strings have more snap, tighter power chords, and the low E doesnt slip off the edge of the fretboard as easy! All good things. The little things that count.

I laugh every time I see comments in regards to all these Hendrix Strats, whether it’s the MIM or the CS....”it doesn’t look like Hendrix’s Strat”...it’s not supposed to. The whole point is to give players the setup of an upside down late 60’s era Strat, without the hassles of the body being upside down, and having to fuck with all those controls and your elbows hitting them. Hendrix did it by necessity. Lefty neck, upside down and reverse installed pickups...comfortable ergonomic right hand body. That’s it, nothing more, nothing less. Buy it, don’t buy it, but that’s the whole point of these. Also Fender already made a “Woodstock” fully flipped Strat in 1997, and I can attest to how uncomfortable it was. It sold like shit and they can be had used on eBay for around $1800.

I own a “regular” custom shop heavy relic 69 Strat with the lefty neck; the only thing is the bridge on mine is in normal angle. Fender CS has been making 69 Strats with this exact configuration for years. What makes these Hendrix strats cost another $1500 more...oh I got it, Hendrix name and Janie’s greed. In all seriousness, there is zero point to this guitar. It’s not a Hendrix design, it’s a Fender design. He just used their products. Smh

I own the $899.00 Jimmy Hendrix MIM Strat. It is a great guitar and I love the sound and the way it plays. My Question is: IS the new Custom Shop Hendrix Strat. Worth Spending 4K to 5k? Can you do a sound comparison between the 2 so we can see the difference and justify spending 5 times more for this guitar. Thanks
@dezionlion
@dezionlion 5 жыл бұрын
if you want a better guitar it is. wouldn't pay more than 2 grand for it though, even if you have to get it slightly used. a lot of people are gonna but it and not be able to get used to it and sell it.

Value is relative. Even if it's 1% better, someone to whom spending $1,000 dollars is like spending $1 for most normal people will buy it. He wasn't scammed, he wasn't lied to, he simply decided to pay $X for X% better. That's all.
