ESQUIRE TIP: Balance the switch between pos 1 & 2. You MIGHT be able to use the Tone Knob WITH the Capacitor and roll between 2 kinds of (good) mud. Try it. Works on both my Eldred wiring Esquires.

I got the 70th anniversary in 2tone. The tone works in all positions and wasn’t modified. It has beyond any doubt the greatest tone of any guitar I’ve ever heard let alone played. The fact I own it is a miracle. Great show

38:00 I really like having a Fralin magic cap on a setting with my Esquire. So one of my positions has volume only with a Fralin magic cap. Definitely thickens the tone up a bit and cuts through a little more.

Someone needs to make a concerted effort to locate Syd Barrett's 1962 Esquire. He apparently traded it in 1968 for a black Telecaster Custom, and then it disappeared to the mists of time. I'm not qualified to track it down. I wonder if the guitar is in a case under someone's bed in England. I wonder, too, if Fender knows the serial number of the guitar; that would be a good place to start.

The black guitars were called "Double Esquires" and supposedly only 12 to 15 made. After the move to trussrods and alder bodies ( only double pine shelving/amp grade pine in the double esquire) and butterscotch finish

Someone else in the chat asked about buying a Telecaster in the $2K price range. They should take a look at the new American Vintage II Telecasters, which are about half the price of a Custom Shop guitar but feel and play quite nicely. Also, they are year-specific reproductions rather than era-specific like the American Originals.

I’m not qualified to speak on the “best” Tele, however I have an American Pro2 Tele and it is an excellent instrument. I don’t know if I just got the best one from the batch or whatever, but the feel is exceptionally good, as well as are the stock pickups.

Those are great. I played one but didn't have the scratch to pull the trigger, and I've regretted it ever since. Searching for a used one right now! I was totally sold on that guitar. I didn't know until I played it that the Esquire switching is totally different than Telecaster switching. When you switch it to the back setting, the pickup goes directly to the output without the capacitor. It's like the sonic version of a flamethrower, and I'm guessing it's why Jeff Beck wanted one when he was in the Yardbirds. It can cut through any mix.

I don't think it's an Esquire on the back cover of David Gilmour's "About Face" album. I think it's the 72 Telecaster his parents bought for him. That's the one he hung onto and never sold.

I only have one good Tele, and I'm looking for more. Can't find any vintage lipsticks for the neck, but have found some decent remans. I've become a huge fan of the tone of a true lipstick in the neck. I believe it gives a little beefier "thud". Don't have a decent way to explain it, but got the idea from a vid Rhett did on lipsticks. He's another one that fits on the high end of content providers. I'd love to see the three of em together on a live stream sometime.

That mixture of an elnico 2 and elnico 5 is interesting. Any links to find more info about that? I have an accoustic element with 2 seperate pieces of magnets. But it’s giving a sound gap between the G and the B string. Only works if i put the elements inbetween the strings….

It must be the Asian in me, it would take me 2 years to grow a beard like that, 2 x Novembers. I'll take the Dye cast Pick up post's with a pinch of salt, to dye cast little bits of metal like that would have been a no, no to Leo. Not conclusive to his fast change modular ethos. I should imagine the metals are first mixed then continually cast and cut later. This kind of continually casting metals was around before the first world war.. You are a kidder Zac.
