Mike, thanks for your honesty, your humility, your sense of humor, and the great entertainment!! My wife wanted to buy me an SRV and I told her no thanks - that's a lot of money to spend on a guitar for a guy that can't play very well LOL. She did buy me a Jimmy Vaughan which sadly I got rid of. Funny, my favorite Stevie Ray song is Little Wing and my favorite Hendrix song is Little Wing

That SRV signature seems fantastic, haven't had a chance to put my hands on one yet. (You handled those riffs of his well!) But I just got an Ultra Strat, burst, with a rosewood fretboard, and I am completely enchanted with it. (Usually practice acoustic every other day, but my acoustic hasn't been out of its case since I got my Ultra Strat. 😂) Side note: Anyone who can actually choose a "favorite" SRV song has probably not listened to his full catalog yet. Far too many fantastic songs to pick just one as a fav! )

I did play a used one. The tone was killer, but the neck finish was very sticky and thick. My local Guitar Center has a Custom Shop version I may try out. Kudos for tackling some tough tunes from SRV. Lenny and his take on Little Wing are not easy songs. I have my own takes way back in my YT channel lol.

I’m getting a Squier Classic Vibe 60s and modding it to make it look like SRV’s First Wife (just without the relicing). So getting gold Fender tuners with pearl buttons, a gold lefty Gotoh vintage style tremolo, gold jack plate/strap buttons/neckplate, black pickguard, and reproduction stickers of the “SRV” and “Custom” stickers. Maybe I’ll update the pickups later on. Scariest part will be drilling to make the lefty tremolo fit. 🫣

I remember dreaming of having the SRV guitar back around 2000 when I was in college, I ended up with an MIM Standard Fender Stratocaster in sunburst with a Rosewood board, which was a special order from my shop (the owner only liked maple fingerboards on sunburst and I payed the extra $36 for the veneer), it was my first electric guitar. I have added a black pick guard and interestingly enough a set of the CLF-100 vintage G&L pickups. I play it with 11s and tune it down to E flat. I played the sh#t out of that guitar and even used it for Weezer songs (Rivers also tuned to e flat on Say it Ain't So). It was my number one (no pun intended) for over ten years. You mentioned G&L, around that same time I discovered them too, but have built up a collection in the mean time with a real stable vintage pieces. F-100, SC-1 (2), SC-2 (2), SC-3, ASATs (2), and an interesting Comanche VI. They all play great and I'll pick a few of them as my go too's. Love your channel, and appreciate the honest feedback. If you really like G&L, check out the old stuff, there is a lot there and it is still relatively inexpensive.

That is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. I'm actually looking to get my first signature guitar, but I'm looking at the Nancy Wilson signature Epiphone Nighthawk. It's just like the guitar she played on Barracuda and so many of Heart's early hits. And plus there aren't a lot of women with signature models, so there's something of a historic side to it.

I got my Strat and I'm good with that. As far as the greatest Stevie, it's gotta be Little Wing or Riviera Paradise. Lenny is great but SRV perfected that performance with Little Wing. There's something about the latter song that's just magical, on an album that might be Stevie's greatest? Everything on In Step is a banger; he was clean by that point and it shows.

Nope. I recently discovered my favorite all-around electric guitar (I have a fav hardtail guitar and a fav floating trem guitar as well), by accident. I was looking at EBMM Majesty 6 strings, and discovered the Kaizen 6. I recall the release of the Kaizen 7, but not interested in 7-strings. Got an EBMM Kaizen 6 in Indigo Blue, and within a week I had two more, mint and white. Sold a few guitars I wasn't using much. The Kaizen 6 feels great, plays great, sounds great, comfortable, balanced and lightweight and I think it looks great. I've had many guitar honeymoons over the decades, but the experience with the Kaizen 6 - my first ever EBMM too - was like nothing else. If it had a floating trem, I'd probably sell my fav floating trem guitars too.

Never played it, never wanted too, probably never will. The idea of signature guitars have been around all of my 42 years of playing but has never appealed to me much. This one in particular was for a guy who went out of his way to make playing a Strat, already a tempermental animal on its best day, like going to war with it. Ass-backwards trems and strings guaranteed to leave you with a case of tendonitis not my idea of practical or even enjoyable. As much as I love vintage Fenders, they were a first stab at something that has continued to evolve and the older you get, trust me you don't want to be fighting with your instrument. Hero worship is a natural part of growing up but at some point you have to be yourself. That's why I have largely left big-brand guitars behind because at the end of the day they are only about the Benjamins. My 2 main guitars nowadays are ones of my own specs and my own making courtesy of Warmoth parts and select pickup winders. It's the only way to get a guitar that is truly "yours".
