Fender Squier Debut - Most Affordable Guitar For Beginners (With One Issue)

I have Fender Strats and Squier Strats and I love them all. I do have a sunburst Debut Strat in my lineup. I replaced the electronics with a loaded pickguard (white pearl) that has single size hot rails and installed locking tuners and a roller tree. I really like the way it feels and now that it has decent electronics it sounds fantastic. Of course it's not on the level of my MIM Fender Strats, but it was a fun little mod project. I already had the loaded pickguard and locking tuners laying around, so I bought the Debut for the sole purpose of using those spare parts. This is the perfect platform for someone looking to learn how to mod or just mods as a hobby like me.

i saved myself a lot of money on setups, and pickup swaps, by teaching myself to work on my own guitars. i would always encourage anyone to learn to fix their own equipment, saves money and you learn some useful skills

It’s certainly a good idea but I wouldn’t expect a beginner to try to file down fret ends.

I would feel gross letting someone else work on one of my guitars. If I don't know how to do something, I watch KZbin videos and learn how.

@ It’s great that you are able to do that but not everyone can. I have had my share of mistakes when working on guitars.

Several years ago my wife got me a Kala U bass as a gift - it had fret sprout which kinda bothered me, so I got a specialized file from stew mac that was specifically for that and carefully filed them back. It worked great! Not that that’s something a beginner would necessarily do, but just a note for any other more seasoned players who have this issue.

Yes it can be done and really isn’t a huge deal. I would suggest a beginner has it done by a pro as they will not have to buy the tool and the pro can also check the rest of the guitar over for them.

My current guitar is a Gibson SG 2006 USA that costs $900. My first guitar was a Peavey predator and it was about $200. I would say it's been a while.

I own a Fender Squier Strat that has that fine tone I enjoy this one reviewed I'm currently using Fender 101 10's.nickle wound.Short Review Aaron 😊 Aaron Short get it 😅.Good Sale O by the way , the haircut takes me back when I was in High School as a Sophmore.Yea , real Garage Bands .I owned one it was a blond neck with black round fret markers but a Fender Telecaster.This Model is clearly a fine one to recommend for new students .That's how I started .I like your presentation .On Amazon , ok

Yes but that’s easy to say if you are good at those kind of things. Not everyone is and they would rather pay someone that has the experience of it.

I bought one of these a few years back. I sent it straight to a luthier to set up. Here’s a video of the whole setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKSwZa2CbaZ0qJYsi=TQu5UNDGilBpm1Q3 Later I paid another luthier to add some Lace Sensor pickups and change pots and pick guard. In total it’s cost me c£300. Some would say that’s the wrong way to do it, but I have a superb guitar at the end of this journey. Plays beautifully and sounds so Stratty.

Cool but yours is the Squier Bullet which is twice the price of the Debut.

@@aaronshortmusic Ah, yes. I focused on the price point. Pre-discount they were the same ballpark price. Mine was full price £115 GBP. It remains that these budget guitars can be fantastic value for most guitar mortals.

Unfortunately, affordability does not equal playability. I been helping my grandson find a decent starter guitar. We ended up going with a MIM Tele. And I have to say that none of the Squiers we tried were good enough players to keep him interested.

The setup is everything. Even an expensive guitar with a bad setup is no fun to play.
