Thank you for your video. Just had the same problem and never felt the wrench was appropriate for that bass

Glad it helped. As you can tell I do not care much for those wrenches..... :)

Thanks so much for making this video! I thought my truss rod is broken or something. I took off the neck and adjusted the neck. All working fine. 😊✌️

Thanks Fender, a great idea that was never validated or clearly thought through by someone who actually works on guitars. The Ball-End Allen Wrench does have its uses, just not in this application.

Fun fact, my Jazz came with one of those fender wrenches despite the fact the truss rod actually has a cross head, so luckily I've never had any reason to use it!

The bass was not bad, just needed some tweaking. Just pointing out the bad idea with the wrench.

That was a new P-Bass? Where was it made? I have a Made in Japan Precision I bought new in1983 and she is perfect in my opinion.

I don't know really how a company like Fender could come out with something so bad... thanks for the video... never felt right to use it... and its not practical at all...

Martin has added the same type of much smaller wrench in the pricey tool kit for their new bolt on/shimable neck on the new SC line. Progress..... Thanks for watching.

Fender tries to make it look like they addressed the issue of the truss rod nut being at the bottom of the neck and being a pita to adjust. If they had only cut the relief in the pickguard a half inch further, even their wrench would probably work OK. With their tiny little notch, they're just inviting that kind of damage. It's like they're daring you to do it, maybe just this once.

LOL, You actually mentioned (spoke out-loud) the name "Musiclander"! The Musiclander main claim to fame, body is as off-putting as the headstock.

I was a service for Fender in the late 70's - early 80's...... really bad years, saw a LOT of bad stuff.

@@guitarc.p.r.9675 I totally agree about those decades and what Fender was shipping out. My first real guitar was a brand new 1974 Fender Mustang. I was perfectly fine with that guitar until my friend showed up with a 1970 Ash Stratocaster in natural........that '70 was beautiful. I saved up and purchased a brand new Les Paul Deluxe in 1977, talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire! I switched to a high-end Ibanez Artist that was actually a better instrument than my '77 Les Paul! Everything was fine until 1979 when I jumped back into the frying pan and purchased a 25th Anniversary Stratocaster. To this day that 1979 Strat was possibly the very worst guitar I'd ever owned. It wasn't one particular thing, or even a few things, it's just that overall the guitar was just kind of crappy and uninspiring. 40 years later, what do I play, Les Paul and Stratocasters! 😉

I'm not a bass player but does a bass guitar truss rod have to be at the bottom of the neck? Fender has played around with truss rods for their entire history, bottom of the neck, top of the neck in a cavity, top of the neck with a "bullet" sticking out, back to the bottom of the neck but with a little cutout in the pick guard! Gibson for all their faults at least kept the same design throughout their history.

At the risk of repeating myself from a comment above....The heel adjust is the most solid. I see a lot of cracked fingerboards especially in Jazz Basses from the up pressure of the bullet type at the headstock. The American standard Strat truss rod repair also points out a couple weaknesses in that style as well. I also believe Gibson invented the adjustable truss rod and yes, has kept it the same over the decades. It works, don't mess with it. nice theory.

More and more as time goes on I’m finding that I’m not a big fan of Fender anymore …because of issues like this. There’s a shit ton of superior guitars out there for much less the cost that don’t have issues like this

I've never like truss rod adjusters at the heal of the on my guitars. I'd rather have them at the headstock. Just my personal choice.

Did you ever see a cracked fingerboard on a Bullet truss-rod neck? I see it a lot especially on Jazz basses. The heel adjustment is MUCH more stable, and solid.

@@guitarc.p.r.9675 True, I have not seen that before. But then I am sure you see 1000's times more than what I see with the of my 4 guitars I own. Only one has it at the heal and I have never had to adjust that one.
