Fengmi V10 4k XPR projector: full review (colors, contrast, gaming, input lag, power, ...)

If I had to classify this projector in a category, I would rather classify it in the high end DLP/LED and I would put it in competition with the XGIMI Horizon Pro. The Fengmi V10 is a product that is designed to please at first glance, it stands out very clearly from its competitors with its warm exterior appearance. On the more technical elements, the Fengmi is distinguished by its refresh rate of 240hz in 1080p which will appeal to gamers but on most other elements, it offers a service equivalent to an XGIMI Horizon Pro.
The image is subjectively beautiful and the settings allow you to adapt the image tonality according to your tastes but from a purely technical point of view I would have hoped to obtain better colorimetry or in any case more effective adjustment possibilities. Out of the box, the colorimetry is very similar to an XGIMI Horizon Pro but the latter allows finer calibration to obtain more accurate colors. The contrast represents a weakness like most projectors of this type, it is an inherent weakness in the technology used but to find better you have to go for a laser projector. On the other hand, the image is very clear without having to modify the settings and the autofocus is fast and efficient.
The Fengmi V10 offers several levels of motion compensation like the Xiaomi Laser Cinema 2 (it's the same operating system) and it helps reduce image tearing in the rapid lateral movements. Simply disabling this option will demonstrate to you the usefulness of this feature.
The sound produced by the Fengmi V10 is good but I was left unsatisfied without being able to use an objective argument to reinforce my opinion. I find that the sound is very soft and warm but it lacks a little relief and the volume management is not linear, so you have to go up fairly quickly in volume to feel the benefit. I find the sound produced by the XGIMI Horizon to be richer and more powerful.
The brightness is good but not enough for daytime use because even if technically the projector is capable of producing a very bright image, in reality you have to reduce the brightness to avoid burning the picture completely. This brightness has no influence on consumption, it is something that I also noticed on the Xiaomi Laser Cinema 2 which uses the same operating system. I obtained a consumption of about 170W regardless of the light used.
How does the Fengmi defend against the XGIMI Horizon Pro? I would say that Fengmi offers a fairly similar experience to the XGIMI but I would give the XGIMI the winner because the settings achieve better image quality but most buyers will probably see very little difference, I also prefer the quality sound of the XGIMI. The XGIMI also does better at the operating system level (Android TV) and it is also less power-hungry. At a similar price level, I therefore prefer the XGIMI, if the Fengmi were a little cheaper, I would probably hesitate a little more.

Bonjour Laurent, merci beaucoup pour cette revue du V10. Penses-tu que l'utilisation d'un bon écran ALR permettrait d'utiliser ce projecteur en journée (Sans trop non plus de lumière ambiante) ? Par ailleurs, pourrais-tu faire une revue du Formovie/Fengmi X5 ? Je n'en entends que du bien mais je voudrais ton avis... Merci pour cette super vidéo !

Pour une utilisation en plein jour ce sera trop juste, la luminosité réelle est assez éloignée de ce qui est annoncé par le constructeur. L'image sera bien entendu visible mais au prix d'une grosse perte de contraste (qui n'est déjà pas super bon). Si c'est pour regarder du foot ou un dessin animé, ce n'est pas trop grave car ce sont des images claires mais pour un film, les scènes sombres ne seront pas bien rendues. Le X5 a l'air effectivement intéressant, je ne sais pas encore quel sera mon prochain achat, ça pourrait être un candidat mais j'ai encore quelques semaines de travail sur d'autres produits avant donc si ça arrive, ça ne sera sans doute plus pour cette année.

Is this projector a good option for an beginner movie enthusiastic in the projector field? I'm really torn between this V10 and LG's HU70LS. What is your opinion on both? Should I consider a different projector in this price range maybe? Thanks for the video. It is really rare to see someone giving an honest opinion about this projector...

Hi, thanks for your comment. Those projectors are two different types. The LG is a lamp based, it is a bit noisier, will need more power and speakers are not going to offer a splendid experience. The image is however going to be slightly better than the Fengmi. Fengmi is brighter, quieter, has better sound, needs less power, is more suited for gaming. If we're talking about the 1500€ price range, you could perhaps have a look check the Fengmi R1 which would be better than the other two or maybe an older generation of Xiaomi laser (4k 1S)

Salut Laurent, merci pour ce test très intéressant. Je reçois le miens la semaine prochaine, suivi du Fengmi Theater. Le contraste est vraiment gênant sur le V10 pour un passionné de cinéma ? Merci :)

Cela dépend de ce que tu as eu avant. :-) Le manque de contraste est assez courant avec ce genre de projecteur (ex: Xgimi Horizon, Xiaomi Mi Smart 2 Pro,...), je n'ai jamais vraiment été gêné par ce problème (je ne suis peut être pas assez exigeant) mais je suis obligé de le signaler car c'est une réalité. Je pense donc que les passionnés risquent d'y voir un problème, le consommateur lambda un peu moins.

They use the same DLP chip so they are close for image quality. Color accuracy is good for both but contrast is the main weakness. To use the fengmi you will need a HDMI stick or similar because the OS is in chinese. For gaming, the Fengmi is much better.

How did you get 1080p 240Hz? Does it require hdmi 2.1? I can only get 4k60

@@thiagodelgado3128 it means that the average color deviation is 15 (it's very high), it should be below 3. I haven't measured the temperature for each mode but yes, eyecare should probably be around that.
