Ferid El Extranjero ( / feridelextranjero , whose real name is Ferid Mezni El Bahri, is a Tunisian rapper who was an original member of the Tunisian rap group Filozof. In addition to the song war9a Stylo, he also anonymously published the first Tunisian rap song "3bed fi Terkina" (people trapped in the corner) ( • Ferid El Extranjero - ... ) in 2005, which denounced police brutality in Tunisia and torture as a method of the criminal regime of Ben Ali.
The chorus of the song reads "We live trapped in a corner, our meat is injured with a knife, the police insulted and harassed us, poverty, false accusations and problems, this is a fish eats fish world." His rap group known in Spain Delahoja released the song from Spain, where Ferid settled after living in Italy and France for a while. Ferid has personally experienced police brutality, incarceration and false accusations in Tunisia. He left Tunisia in the late 1990s after fighting a Tunisian policeman who severely insulted him and his family. After a stay in Tunisia in 2005, during which he was arrested at the airport for beating the police officer, he released the song 3bed fi Terkina on his return to Spain. His song contained harsh words, but these words expressed people's real feelings. These were words that almost every Tunisian at the time would have liked to say to a police officer.
When the song reached Tunisia and became an underground rap hit that could only be heard in secret, mostly on an MP3 player, it caught the attention of the Tunisian police, who expanded their repression against the Tunisian rapper and gave him few options let. Many see 3bad fi Terkina as the first act of freedom of expression in Tunisia and also as the first step towards the Tunisian revolution.
After the Tunisian Revolution, Ferid El Extranjero was able to enter Tunisia again. He now lives in Germany and produces new songs from Germany or Tunisia, which have also been found in Tendence Tunisie. After the revolution, he not only published political rap hits like “G3adna Rhina fi Terkina”, “El 4orba win” or “E7teram Chnowa”, but also socially critical songs like the Rap Hit “9asawat” or “Hokech”.
