I dry-blend equal parts of raw cashews, hemp hearts, and oats into a powder, and store it in a jar. Heat kills probiotics so if you want the probiotics, don't cook the oats afterwards. But the oats will be soft and tender (just not hot) after the fermentation process. If you only are concerned about the phytic acid reduction and not the probiotic, then go ahead and cook. blessings!

Good afternoon Adrianna :) You have so many videos that I'm getting to some I had no interest in learning about. But about two years ago, I tried for the first time, Yogurt milk I purchased from a middle eastern grocer. It was delicious and refreshing on that hot, summer day. And, it came plain or mint flavored. The thought of drinking something sour other than buttermilk, and Keifer costs way too much, just did not appeal to me. I will be making a second purchase from your site for a seed bag. hemp seeds and a Ph reader. This, of course, will not be until the middle of the month since I already purchased a bread banneton basket, a digital food scale and a cast iron pot that hasn't arrived yet. I figure that as long as I'm trying to clean up my life, I might as well clean out my kitchen with newer utensils and applicances I will actually use. No update on my fermented salsa just yet. One big plus for me, since I've become a fermenter, is that I don't have a lot of cleanups every day, just on the days I actually ferment. I feel ever so slight a bit healthier by the week. Looking forward to making my first batch of fermented hemp milk. I too prefer hemp over flax seed (which seems to have a stale flavor to me), and I've been trying to incorporate all three seeds into my cooking. And I'm a long way off. Thank you Adrianna. Have a great weekend :)

Very clever. I also like being able to measure things 🙂. And I agree, that a slightly longer ferment is good for overnight oats at normal room temperature. After 24h mine were almost a little too mushy for my taste, but 10-12 h wasn't quite enough. I'm guessing, it depends on both the amount of probiotic used and the temperature? I don't have air-conditioning, so once it gets really hot, I'll probably have to adjust again.

@jocelynhamilton7624 Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding your question, and so hope I’m actually being helpful by offering a reply. She used only hemp hearts/hulled hemp seeds and water with honey to make hemp milk. There’s no dairy, and so no risk of lactose in this or any plant based (pseudo-)milk, if it’s truly plant based. If you think you’re seeing something that appears a little more rich and opaque than most plant based (pseudo-)milks, it’s because of the higher quantity of fat and protein in hemp hearts.

I found a place where %90 of everything is organic, grown from specific areas of land where everything is high quality and less expensive; I have hypothyroidism, so I don’t eat Oats (one of the highest sprayed pesticides) but they have a wide variety of gluten-free products, including oats (hundreds of millions of pounds of glyphosate are dumped on American farmland each year, resulting in endocrine malfunctions) also, they have hemp hearts as well as gluten free hemp hearts ……. I order a lot of organic herbs and vitamins and herbs from there because many are cheap and contain binders which inhibit it from absorbing, also they add preservatives, dyes, additives….etc., which are dangerous; they’re a company that isn’t local, but they charge for shipping, based on the amount purchased, and have delivery pickups in each state. Compared to other places, including large monopolistic corporations, even with added shipping, I haven’t found any place that has the quality they have with reasonable shipping prices, if you’re interested, I’ll send you the link for their website. Just answered my own question. YES! Grinding the seeds first worked great. There was absolutely no need to strain and the milk was beautiful and creamy. Now to see what it's like tomorrow.

A powerful blender is needed to crush seeds- Vitamix, maybe some Ninja blenders. Grinding the seeds means you’re making a pureé (that u then dilute). This is different from a strained seed water. For one, you’re going to get the nutrients of the seeds, not just the starchy part that turns the water a “milky” color.

So it doesn’t matter if you use shelf-stable or refrigerated probiotics? Will it be okay to ferment say steel cut oats on the counter?

Do you have an opinion if using a homemade kefir made from fresh raw goat milk compared to using a capsuled probiotic would work to ferment this (or work on other ferments!)? Also- thank you for the link on the digital ph reader!!

Yes you could use goat milk kefir as a starter for this👍🙂
