Is there a reason you add the kelp and minerals after the fermentation process? my special made layer mix has it added in and I was hoping to try my hand at fermenting.
@greatlittlehomestead13252 жыл бұрын
I do this just because it is easier to ferment, also while straining the fermented grain, most of the kelp and minerals are so fine that they end up in the liquid and not in the feed. Which in my opinion is quite a waste of it. This way they eat it all and nothing is left over. Thank you for watching our Video!

LOVE your setup! I have 13 hens. How much grains should I add to the bucket before I put the water in. Thanks for sharing.
@greatlittlehomestead13253 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I give about 1/4 cup per Hen but that is the full amount of feed they get daily. They do have dry feed available but don't touch it. Depending on the size of your chicks you can adjust the amount. I find the best way to figure that out is starting with a smaller amount and if they finish it within 24 hours add more until they have something left. Than reduce again and this way you know exactly how much they eat a day. This also does change with the season winter they eat more and summer less because they forage. I hope that answers your question. Thank you for watching our Video!
@ImASurvivorNThriver3 жыл бұрын
@@greatlittlehomestead1325 Thank you for your response. I especially appreciate you sharing with me this feeding technique. I am a little confused about the feed though. When you say don't touch the dry feed, what does this mean??? Are you talking about the layer pellet or mash feed???
@greatlittlehomestead13253 жыл бұрын
@@ImASurvivorNThriver You are very welcome. I should have explained that more in detail. I feed my chickens only fermented feed. But to be on the safe side they also have a feeder with the dry Grain Mix just like others have the pellet feed in a feeder, only that I don't use comercial feeding products at all. I do so, just in case something is wrong, lets say, the feed freezes in Winter- because the fermented feed is wet, and that happens every ones in a while, than they can eat from the dry Grain mix. This way they never go hungry. You can call it a backup plan :-) I fill this dry grain feeder ones every now and than because they barely eat from it, they prefer the fermented feed. I hope that makes a little more sense.

Did you say Kale or Kelp powder? What minerals are you putting in? I am going to try this and want to add the minerals what about calcium is it included with the mineral powder? My duck needs extra calcium is there a grain that has lots of calcium that you feed to your birds? Any advice on bumping up the calcium with a food source would be appreciated there is something wrong with my ducks eggs they are super tiny smaller than a chicken egg and if she lays a bigger egg it doesn't have a shell or I will see it in a different spot and its collapsed. I feed her duck pellets (doesn't really like to eat) she has access to oyster grit at all times and she gets her peas in the morning then fruit and or vegie snacks during the day (tomatoes, romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupe, millet seed, sometimes she will eat meal worms) and another snack when she goes to her house for the night. She goes crazy and eats the cat food when she can. Seems like a pretty good diet to me

Do you wait for the seeds to sprout, also do you not drain the water after the initial 12/24 soak and then leave the seeds for a few days in the buckets?
@greatlittlehomestead13252 жыл бұрын
No this is not sprouting seeds it is fermenting seeds. While sprouting you drain the water after a certain amount of time depending on the seeds you use. And then you rinse the seeds twice a day. In this Video I explain how I Ferment Grain for the Chickens so when you Ferment you keep your grain mix covered below water surface for the entire duration, usually 3 days. I think you confused those two ways of improving the nutritional value of feed. Thank you for watching our Video!

Could you tell me how many days to take a broiler chicken to prepare for full size with farmented feed and what is the final body weight?can we provide farmented feed to broiler chicken at night?

Your question is not that easily answered. First of all it all depends of the breed of your broiler chicken, especially regarding on the time they need to mature. Do you think if you put herbs that are good for chickens in the water the grain would absorb it?
@greatlittlehomestead13252 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I do give herbs as well and I just add them to the feed at feeding time. I don't ferment them, in Summer I feed them fresh, and during Winter dried. To extract all the beneficial properties of a Herb you would have to go a different way than fermenting. I can't seem to see it being harmful but I think it is not necessary. Ferment the grain and add the Herbs at time of feeding, fresh or dried. Thank you for watching our Video!

@@greatlittlehomestead1325 We usually do it...We love to eat fermented rice which is boiled .
