I love how Frieren had three whole months to choose which grimore she wanted, but didn't bother to look through the library until they were just about to leave. That must have been some amazing cake to keep her busy for all that time lol

Tbf Fern probably kept her out of there else they'd never see her at all. Or more likely the library was just forbidden from them as after all the grimoire is a reward for their services and in three months she could or might read far more than one. Just in general I would imagine he would be careful with access to that place as he doesn't know them that well so in his mind there's always a chance that Frieren or someone else could just pinch one or two.

Actually she was shown reading grimoires a few times over the course of those 3 months so I'm sure it's not because she didn't bother looking but simply because she just can't make up her mind. Frieren being Frieren she'd likely want to spend at least another 6 months combing through the library before making up her mind.

@@Stonewielder I was thinking the same thing: It's quite possible that Frieren *did* look through the library for those three months, and that the reason she hadn't picked something out by the time they had to leave was because 3 months is a very short time to make a decision from her pov.

She knows the goddess existED. Past tense. Her magic is recorded in scriptures. She mentioned somewhere, I think a couple of episodes before but I might be wrong forgive me if its a minor spoiler that the Goddess has not shown herself in the past thousands of years. So that is why she doesnt really believe in her at the present time

She mentioned to Kraft (episode 11) that the Godess has not shown herself since the age of Myth which can be assumed to be many thousands of years ago.

@@kasagure. specifically, Frieren tells Kraft that in the long history of the world the Goddess of Creation only showed herself during the Era of Mythology. The implication is that Frieren is skeptical if the goddess is actually still involved with the world or not, hence her skepticism about "believing" in her in the sense of worshiping her. After all, if the goddess is no longer concerning herself with the world then there would be no point in praying to her for help, guidance, etc. She also doesn't consider the goddess' magic "interesting," since it can't be studied the way elf/human magic can.

@@Ryodraco Actually, the implication could be that Frieren - who is in fact too young to have been alive during the Era of Mythology - never personally witnessed the Goddess. At best all she would have would be accounts of other people who claimed to have witnessed the Goddess - and more likely the people who did claim to have witnessed those things during the Era of Mythology would've been generations removed from Frieren (I think even Kraft is not old enough to have lived in the Era of Mythology). She is therefore unconvinced on the Goddess' current *and* past existence, though more confident in the "current" part of her disbelief, since that is what she has personally witnessed... or not witnessed, as the case may be.

@@LadyDoomsinger certainly it can be said she never witnessed the goddess, but she seems to treat the goddess visiting the world during the Era of Mythology as a historical fact. She also recognizes the magic of the goddess as a real thing, she just considers it not very interesting because it cannot be studied like human magic can. That is, when it is said she doesn't "believe" in the goddess, I take it to mean she doesn't believe in/is skeptical of believing in the sense of worship, rather than her not believing the goddess exists or existed. After all, she may reason, why should she worship someone who as far as she is aware hasn't made a personal appearance in the world in so long?

the way this show handles the relationship between Stark and Fern is so good. Their relationship doesn't seem rushed or forced at all. You can literally recognize how/when their perception of and their feelings for each other change.

I love Stark and Fern's moment in this episode, but Orden's pain is so overlooked. I feel so bad for him. The argument they had probably clung onto him and he was feeling the regret all this time. That scene where he was looking at Stark and Fern dance, he must've been thinking that is supposed to be his son if he didn't die.

They're still a LONG way from Ende.

Time to share my personal headcanon! In the scene where Sein asks Frieren to dance, *I believe* that he has gotten caught up in the moment - watching Stark and Fern, listening to the music, feeling the energy of the soiree, seeing everyone dressed up so nicely - and started to think for a second that maybe Frieren *is* the right kind of older lady. Then he asks her to dance and she casually brushes him off in favor of the endless supply of free, fancy desserts available to her, and he's like, "Oh, right; how silly of me." I think if you watch carefully you can see all that play out in his body language and facial expressions. Like, he doesn't have any hard feelings or anything like that, just a brief moment of "maaaybe...?" followed by an abrupt "nope, nevermind." Mad House gives us all of that in like two or three seconds of screen time - to say nothing of how amazing the entire rest of the episode is, with the solid world building and that *glorious* dance. I love this show so much.

Hi! Fern has been with Frieren about 8 years, half her life. But she and Frieren only began traveling four years before, when she was 12. She is 16 or 17 (I guess 17) now.

Ok. This episode is where I really started to appreciate how the author is slowly building their power-scaling idea. I know a lot of people find themselves living vicariously by watching super overpowered characters just beating others, being underestimated by others then showing them up, etc. But I like more tension and balance. Plot armor is expected for the main character/party... but I always hope that the show can covey that the victory is well-earned. Frieren IS a very powerful mage, possibly on the upper echelon of all the mages existing now. But she's not all-powerful. The power-scaling here seems like a rock-paper-scissor. Just like how a highly skilled mage like Frieren can't learn holy magic, she's vulnerable to curses too. Stark is powerful physical attacker that can surpass Eisen, but is the first to fall under the curse. Sein is a genius in holy magic but can't defeat a plant monster on his own. If another demon stumbled upon their party while Frieren was cursed asleep, they're all dead. There are other aspects of this to be explained soon, like why they NEED a frontliner like Stark.

Were you talking about the very ending with all the overlapped phrases? That is the way every episode ends after the credits roll. The episode you just finished watching had a an extended ending that the credits rolled through so you watched through the credits and noticed the very end this time.

she did not believe in an afterlife like paradise. that does not mean she did not believe in the existence of the Goddess. There might be differnt views on what the goddss actually is or if she still exists or what this means for the afterlive.

I think it's like you can call it goddess magic but it doesn't mean there has to be a goddess it's like when people believed it rained cause the gods were angry or whatever. It could just well be people are born with affinity for healing and holy scriptures amplify that or a million other explanations for the phenomenon
