Sky Sports documentary....Fernando Ricksen: Hard Times ....Former Rangers captain and Netherlands international Fernando Ricksen opens up about his battle with motor neurone disease in an emotional documentary to be shown on Sky Sports.
At the age of just 38, Ricksen's life has been turned upside-down by the muscle-wasting disease which has left him with difficulty speaking and needing help to dress and feed himself.
Amazingly, he is trying to stay positive.

He is at peace now, hope there is a heaven and he is enjoying all the company of the other famous footballers. My heart breaks for him and his family. 😢

This is making me fight back tears. I was first numb last Wednesday, then gutted, to hear he had passed away.....And just knowing he was stricken with such a cruel disease broke my heart, and still does. I was one of many, many people who wrote to him. I wrote about 6 months ago. I like writing letters and wanted to use my gift to comfort and encourage him. I knew he was too sick to reply - I wrote for his sake only, in the hope that it would lift his spirits. Not that he wasn't brave - he was extremely brave, and outlived the doctors' expectations by years. I and some friends from church prayed for him. It seems so unfair, and MND is something you wouldn't wish on anyone. May God bless you Fernando, and receive you in Heaven with joy and love. From an Aberdeen fan. Respect.

Fernando died on the same day as my grandad (to asbestosis) so whenever i think of him i think of Ricksen. I've lost my uncle (heart attack) my other grandad (dementia) godfather (lung cancer) and my mum (breast cancer + brain tumour)
