@goisles67283 жыл бұрын
This may be one of the few times killing the Joker doesn’t end in him “winning”. Sure, Joker’s always wanted to get Batman to kill, but the point of getting him to kill was to corrupt Batman. To make Batman indirectly admit his moral code was wrong. Batman goes on to turn himself in and refuses to leave prison early. He truly accepts the consequences of his actions, which is Batman’s way of saying “what I did was wrong”. His moral code remains intact despite his earlier breach of it by treating what he did as a serious breach. This is the timeline where Batman truly defeats the Joker. He saves both his and Superman’s moral codes and the point Joker was trying to make by getting Batman to kill never got made.
@ethanhayes72053 жыл бұрын
Also, lets be honest, Joker wanted his death to be long and drawn out, looking Bats in the eyes the whole time so he could savor every last moment of "victory." Sudden neck snap when he's not expecting it, especially after the day was saved, is... NOT how he would have envisioned it.
@RexMK-3 жыл бұрын
@@ethanhayes7205 Basically in this timeline he died for nothing. And the worst part of all is that in the end Joker will go down history as another maniac whose only goal was just to he an A-Hole. I know joker doesn't care that much for fame unless he wants a lot of people wacth his attrocities, but the main point is, Joker din't even get the satisfaction of going down in blaze of painfull and slow "glory". I mean, what is the worst way a villian can loose? By not only failing but also being forgoten in the end.

Agreed. It even conquers one of Batman's worst fears - that the moment he starts killing, he won't stop. He did, and in fact accepted the consequences of his crime. In all honesty the Gotham PD would likely give him a light sentence, if any, considering he ended the long killing spree of their worst mass murderer. And if they didn't, the people of Gotham would absolutely pressure them to, because Batman is truly their hero now.

You know why I love this scenario? Because it gives a giant middle finger to all the contrived excuses Batman's writers have been coming up with regarding his refusal to kill Joker. Here, Batman doesn't care about proving himself to the Joker; he doesn't care about upholding the moral high ground and he doesn't go insane after breaking his one rule. Instead, he just kills the Joker to save a life and protect a friend without making a big song and dance about it. And then comes the best part: he takes responsibility for his actions by turning himself in because he believes that, no matter how justified it was, he still needs to be held accountable for taking a life, essentially proving through his actions that he's indeed a better man than his enemies. This is what a true hero is and it's everything we imagined Batman would be like if he actually was forced to take a life -- he would just do it and live with the consequences.
@DeepEye19943 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I really just feel like people are stupidly black and white to find any excuse under the sun why Batman shouldn't kill. "He'd become a murderer! He'd be a hypocrite! He'd betray his parents!" ...Oh yeah, but allowing a sick torture evil clown to make countless children orphans because he keeps escaping and killing innocents IS NOT disrespectful to their memory? Also many cops kill criminals that endanger civilians, and I'm pretty sure they don't become serial killers because of it. So Bruce is the world's smartest man, but killing the biggest son of a bitch of the world would turn him evil?? Okay, enough, you just want the Joker alive to keep making stories with him. Or as I always say, Batman could and SHOULD fucking paralyze Joker for life so that he's permanently taken care of without breaking the no kill rule... but again, that's a huge no no because we gotta make more stories. That's the truth.

There's something absolutely poetic about _how_ it happened too. Joker wanted a long, drawn out, final showdown, to try and break the Bat, and force him to admit he was wrong. Joker deserved a long, painful, drawn out death, _and getting it would have mean he'd won._ If Batman had driven him behind a shed somewhere and tortured him to death, it would have meant that Joker was right: That no one is unbreakable, that the world is dark and painful, and even the most upright, most adamant, are just that one day away from turning into savage animals. If Batman had given in and done everything he'd dreamt about doing to Joker, then The Bat would have been irrevocably stained. He didn't turn Joker in to Arkham all those times because it was "The Law", or to give Joker another chance, he did it because every time he _refused_ to give in to that, he kept his head above water, and beat Joker back a little bit. You can argue whether or not this murder was justified all day long, but the best part about it is that he did it quick, clean, merciful. Joker doesn't get his drawn out fight in the rain, he doesn't get to see Batman scream and strangle him. He barely gets to see anything: Bruce just does his best to come at it from a pure, pragmatic point of view. No pain, just quick, and it's done, and Bruce moves on to accepting the consequences of his actions. In a way, Bruce probably didn't even think of it as killing Joker in order to save Superman. He probably thought more along the lines of "I'm going to sacrifice my ideals and accept jail-time, for superman." Still, bet Dick and Barb are pissed.

You could see Harleys face. Even she knew this had gone too far and that a line was crossed. Her past as a psychologist could see Clark's mindset. That was no longer Superman, but a vengeful, angry husband and father with superhuman abilities ready to do anything to protect his family. Joker was too insane to see or care Besides if Superman did lose his family it would have broken his mind. All these powers and you can't stop a simple human lunatic dressed as a clown from harming your family? People have mental breakdowns for far less. Example:Joker Batman saw the difference as well. Superman would have killed Joker in front of the League in an instant and there was nothing they would be able to stop him. If superman crossed the line it would be all over..The League, Superman, his family, and the vision of Superheroes in the eyes of the public. Too much to lose. Batman had to be the one to do it. He is the least squeaky clean. He has to be the fall guy and the example to them all if they ever killed that they forfeit everything like hero status, fame, respect, money, freedom, and become a simple criminal locked up in a prison alone and surrounded by your enemies fighting every day. In a way it was the most heroic act.

What pushed Batman past the breaking point was he knew Joker would do everything he said he would do. It's not if, but when. Batman knew Joker would escape Arkham again, and it would only be a matter of time before he tried to torture and kill Lois and her child and there was no guarantee he would be able to stop him in time. The only way of knowing for sure was to kill the Joker, and protect his best friend's happiness and family. So the World would still have their Superman.

U have 2 keep in mind tho that the joker’s goal in life was 2 make Batman break his moral code, by any means necessary. Joker couldn’t get Batman 2 do it because he had 2 much self-control, so he turned 2 Superman, who was much more human (psychologically, not physically) than Batman, and is thereby more prone 2 giving into emotion. So Joker gassed Superman, and planted the warhead in metropolis 2 destroy Clark from an emotional standpoint, and if he did that, then Superman would kill the Joker, and he would become a tyrant, which is exactly what happens in the injustice timeline. However, in this alternate timeline, Batman knows that the Joker will try this again 2 break Superman, because Joker knows he’s less emotionally stable than Batman, and Batman knows that he’s much more emotionally stable, so the only way 2 prevent Superman from breaking his moral code is 2 kill the Joker, but he will have killed a man doing that, which means he will have broken his moral code. For that, he decides 2 turn himself in, because if he doesn’t, it’ll become easier and easier 2 kill ppl, and then the Joker wins anyway, because he got Batman 2 break his moral code. This is the only timeline I know of in which Batman has truly won.

In a way it does, you see society in our reality supplies human thought and human behavior, this means all actions of human kind are controlled for the benefit of a few. Classical Joker was trying to expose society for the multicultural slave organization it is, but he is up against “God like hero’s” who support it by saving it? In a way the comic breaks the 4th wall, you see we all know society enslaves and every citizen of the society seems to think something metaphysical about the “rulers”, “reptilian, immortal, magic” this goes hand in hand with supernatural or superhuman abilities; meaning the hero’s of the comic are just like the hero’s of our society such as a president or an organization of men. The comic builds the idea that the “Joker” type the conspiracy theorist, who tries to expose is actually evil, when in reality he is trying to show humanity through horrible acts mind you, the corruption of a system that obtained control of a species. I typically agree he doesn’t belong, but he has to be there or the comic will build controversial thought processes to the reader for the comic is based on “IF our reality had this”. Joker needs to be seen as a criminal (which as a character he is) but for the enslavement? It’s for the greater good. Bruce is rich he is elite, he defends the system, like a rich president or so.

A couple of things that added to the amazingness of this scene. One, Superman inadvertantly reveals Batman's identity to the Joker. Given the Joker's response, it's highly probable that unlike other iterations of the character, he really didn't know who Batman was. And as the Joker is a reasonably intelligent person, it stands to reason that it would be very likely he would figure out the rest of Bruce's identity and target his loved ones (how many rich people in Gothan are named Bruce?). So one could say Batman had extra incentive to end the Joker once and for all. Second, his friendship, comraderie, even brotherhood w/ Superman is so strong that out of all the things Joker has done, attempting to harm Superman through his wife & unborn child was the one line Batman had that Joker crossed. That Batman knew he could best the Joker, so he didn't mind Joker threatening him. But to threaten Superman? Even though he knows there's little to no chance Joker could harm the Man of Steel. To threaten his wife and child? That was the one line where Batman would say "you know what? You've just earned a one-time exemption from my no-killing rule". Brilliant writing.

"Batman can block his emotions and bounce back from a killing without going down a dark path" - ohhhhh man is that totally wrong. The thing about Batman is that he already IS on a dark path, and if he were to allow himself to give in, he would fall right into the void and never come back, turning into a cold-blooded killer, willing to murder anyone who opposes him in any way, and completely losing touch with his humanity. This is basically what happened in an alternate reality, and that is how we got Owlman; part of the Crime Syndicate of America. In Batman's own words about killing the Joker: "A day doesn't go by that I don't think about subjecting him to every horrendous torture he's dealt out to others, and then... end him. But if I do that, if I allow myself to go down into that place... I'll never come back."
@Supermateo973 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but Superman's emotions are the only thing keeping him from being like Homelander/Omniman. He needs to be the kind-hearted boy scout, anything else won't work.

Man, batsies is just dumb. Its better to kill bad guys who kill intentionally and not because of a situation, cause when they leave they would just do it again. The Punisher is more effective in eradicating crime warlords, Gotham would be clean in a week

Joker crossed the line. Batman was almost always his focus before. But now, Joker was going after another hero’s family. I think the turning point of no return was the moment Joker learned Batman was named Bruce. All of a sudden, the mystery and the fun were cut short. Joker would eventually move on, and Superman was looking juicy.

2:22 you can see how Batman truly feels helpless and completely powerless by all measures, knowing he in some way fucked up 6:22 you can see the pure evil pouring directly from Joker’s heart, there is no saving people like this, you can feel the atmosphere change while reading it both in your mind and in the vehicle, and Batman felt it, and that is what crossed the line, Batman stopped him completely then and there Man this comic is so damn good, I wish they would make a movie out of this, with brilliant actors to really sell the scene, so much emotion pours from the comics.

This is my favourite part of injustice, I'm not a massive fan of the concept myself but this dream proves and disproves so many things about the characters. It shows that joker was wrong about batman , and to an extent barman was wrong about himself. If he snaps and goes too far he won't become worse than the joker. He will still do the right thing. And honestly this situation is for the best because Bruce can handle the aftermath of the act as it allowed superman to remain an icon to the world and keep his morals intact.

From the moment he promised superman that he'd never be hurt by the joker, to the joker's own musings about going out the next chance he got to find a way to hurt superman again, bruce couldn't justify just locking up the joker again. Bruce knew that he only barely avoided a tragedy and losing his best friend as he knew him and that the joker would just end up pulling another stunt and potentially succeeding the next time or the time after. Bruce was ok if it was just himself the joker went after, but to know for a fact what would happen now that the joker set his sights on breaking someone on superman's level and after already witnessing what superman was about to stoop to in retaliation, he could only make one choice since blood would be on his hands regardless. This is a pretty interestingly written what-if.

Yes, but how he turned himself in, likely pled guilty without a DA even offering a deal, and with as many corrupt officals in Gotham, you don't think they, or those on the take, their bosses, wouldn't do everything to put the Bat away?

I’m not familiar with the storyline but apparently Batman literally refused to not have a sentence 🤣 so they gave him like 2 years 6 months which was probably the minimum sentence. I think he just felt like he had committed a crime and had to be punished for it. Minimum sentence is probably best though.
