Really appreciate your passion in this retrospective. Growing up with this film really shaped my understanding of environmental concerns and the direct impact human's have had on the destruction of precious flora and fauna ecosystems. I've always had a connection to this film and Rescuers Down Under. I think as kids, we believe we can use the same magic as Crysta and save the rainforest and animals. As we age, it's tough to grasp the realities of our impact, but then I recall movies like this, or watch old clips of Steve Irwin, and that fire of hope rekindles. I love this film for it's message above all, but it does have some beautiful animation, great voice acting, and an absolutely stellar soundtrack.

Thank you for the kind words! The 90s certainly were a unique time for environmental themed kids media (Zaoboomafoo was always a personal favorite). It makes me wonder when we’ll see that kind of focus from Hollywood again.

You really focused on A Dream Worth Keeping, and I'm glad you did. I first saw this movie when I was really young, and that scene really touched me in a way my too young mind couldn't comprehend yet, making me appreciate the romance of the scene and ship Zak and Crysta without even knowing/registering what any of that even was yet.
@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose7 ай бұрын
I appreciate that they didn't make their relationship into a trivial love story too; it was more than enough it felt there may have been an unspoken vibe between the two of them. Such a great scene!
@ViewerOnline1017 ай бұрын
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose Agreed. Also, don't know if you know this, but the movie is based on a book that it was adapted from, and the cave scene was in the book too. In it, it's explained that the reason why Zak was floating in the air after he and Crysta kissed was due to a fairy's love, as Crysta explains it, stating that they both now share the same feelings. Not only dd the movie adapt that scene wonderfully, they managed to portray it without any dialogue.

FYI to International Viewers: Mount Warning is an actual real place in Australia and it looks a lot like this so I am very happy that is Australians have an animated show which is 100x better than Finding Nemo, Kangaroo Jack or Rescuers Downunder as these movies don’t really represent us as a country where FernGully does.

Wonderful review, really well written and narrated! This movie does have an important message, thanks for taking it seriously unlike some larger reviewers on YT from years past. The only thing that I'd say could be improved here is the background music. The song itself is an enjoyable tune, but I feel like it overstays its welcome just a bit. I would also lower the volume of the BGM by about half so it doesn't overpower your well-delivered script. I'm looking forward to viewing your future videos, subbed :)

This movie means so much to me and I watched it very recently lol. It's a very well executed story with good animation and characters. Most of all, it has a very fine message that, and as many state, doesn't feel too preachy. I really wonder during the films production, if Don Bluth were to reach out and help in any way. Would have been interesting.

My honest thoughts: This movie is already fairly beautiful in many ways. I feel its animation is gorgeous and you can tell that yeah, these people were putting a lot of love into it. Unfortunately, it's got several things that I feel hold it back: -It feels as if some things were put in just because "Well, that's what other animated movies do, because that's what Disney does~", -It kind of undermines its aesop a bit - the moral is "You should respect nature for there is magic within, it is worth saving and destruction can harm us too... so don't chop down trees and deforest things otherwise you'll unleash an eldritch abomination." MAYBE they thought a message of "You ahve upset the balance and caused so much destruction that we can't recover" was too complex...? Like, I think kids need to learn that destruction can be bad, but it's also natural. I mean, Shiva is the god of destruction in Hinduism... but isn't a "bad guy". Not at all - Shiva's actually a good guy. Because what can be created can be destroyed, but what can be destroyed can be created again.
