Fernie's Own Tapestry

I wrote this song for Fernie's 100th anniversary celebrations in 2004. This past week I took it out of the vault and did some research on pictures I could put to it. Many thanks to the staff at Fernie Museum they provided quite a few. Here are the lyrics:
A hundred years have come and gone many changes we have seen fragments which unfold and are constantly growing
Yet amid the changing times this will always be
a landscape surrounded by its own beauty.
So look around, look around now, look around you and you'll see
snow filled Lizard Range, Cedar Valley full of trees
this is creation's tapestry - Fernie's Own Tapestry
Curses brought wild fires consumed all in their way
once the smoke did clear then came a brand new day
Cornerstones were laid to make the stature strong
buildings made of stone forever now belong
So look around, look around now look around you and you'll see
part of our heritage, part of this legacy
yes this is a town's tapestry, Fernie's Own Tapestry
Imagine can you see Victoria Avenue
Sidewalks make of wood and horse drawn carriages too,
Filled with goods from Trites-Woods
Or the Royal to meet with friends
Payday for the worker brought many offerings
Shades of all cultures woven in the fabric core
All of them sharing in their own folklore
so all heed yes heed celebrate!
Breathe in this life breathe deep
And let the spirit of our people within you always keep.
