Oh my gosh, this is great. I've been struggling for weeks with our stand-up shower. My wife refuses to even clean it, much less use it because of how the mold has built up. I've been putting all kinds of products on it and was considering just replacing the whole shower because of the mold. I can't wait to get home and try this tonight. But I'm going to tell my wife that, according to the video, the wife has to do the work while the husband observes.

WOW. This absolutely worked. 1 application took off 95% of my mold, ald it was BAD in spots. Used regular bleach, cut an old white sock in half instead of the paper, and then covered it in plastic wrap to keep it from drying out overnight. I think another application in spots will fix it all. Thank YOU!

Thanks very much for posting this. It definitely works! There are lots of videos about this, and nothing helped until I did what you do here. You can buy various liquids at stores, but none of them do anything. Of course, I tried bleach, but wiping some bleach on those black stains does nothing. This idea of putting it on paper pressed against the grout/caulk is excellent. And, there is no expense.

I use HG mold spray for bathrooms and just spray over mold it won't damage bath or shower if it runs in. It takes 30 mins but most of the time you can see the mold disappearing in 30 seconds. When mold is gone just wash over. The only thing about this spray it stinks of bleach but it works. Just make sure a window is open. Mike.

Great idea and instructions. It worked on my kitchen sink rim caulking very well. I used thin bathroom tissue, rolled to strips like 1/4" diameter, soak in bleach, then stick it along the moulded rim and press it down. After 10 hours, with window open, the rim is as white as brand new. 😄🙂🙃

EVERYONE, PLEASE READ! I'm a professional mold remediation technician and I can tell you first hand, THIS IS NOT REMOVING IT. As a few people have already said, all you're doing is disclosing, (bleaching) the mold. The best only true remedy is to take the silicone out of the edge. There's a special tool made for this. $5/6. Then reapply silicone. They sell tubes that specifically say kitchen, bath. Apply and your good. Otherwise, it will grow right back. Also, take the time to wipe the edges off when done showering. Literally takes 10 seconds.

@Daisytoo
@Daisytoo 4 жыл бұрын
You're 100% correct. Not only is it a temporary cosmetic fix, but once you see that mold, it means the sealant is compromised. Compromised sealant = water getting into area formerly sealed and damaging (to the point of collapse) everything under and next to your tub/shower/sink etc. Remove the sealant, get rid of the mold then reapply sealant. And yes, dry shower/tub after each use.

Using bleach on mold only takes the colour out of the mold, but the mold is still there and will come back in time, the old wives remedy is to use "Oil of Clove" mixed with some water and spray it on, oil of clove kills the mold spore and it won't come back, but eventually mold will form again after several months, you just psray it again with oil of clove.

Tip: Get a fan to leave in the bathroom (a small one will do) and turn it on pointing into the bath/shower (this is in addition to the ceiling vent fan if u have one) for about 15-20 min (until it’s dry) after bath or shower. This prevent mold growth. The reason the mold grows is because it stays damp too long.

Ideally you should have a decent size air gap under your bathroom door (10mm) to allow air into the bathroom, an extractor fan needs a constant flow of air in order to extract the moisture. Even without an extractor fan the air gap under the door & having the bathroom window open would b enough to remove all the moisture & for free!

To remove/diminish mold and humidity from your RV, it is VERY important to ventilate. When we shower, I open the front vent and leave it off and run the bathroom vent motor to remove the moisture. When we are finish, I use my wash cloth and wipe the shower walls and wrink the water down the drain. My intention is to remove the moisture not to use a towel to wipe it down. Using a towel, all you doing is transfer the moisture from the wall to the towel. It is STILL in the RV, so the humidity factor is in your RV and the comfort level is high or uncomfortable. I run the vent for 30 minutes summer or winter after showering until the shower is dry completely, then I turn it off and close both vents. It even helps from getting condensation on the windows in the winter time. Keep in mind, you are generating as much moisture in your RV as if you would in your house, and your home is from 4-10 larger. So, it is very important to ventilate ventilate ventilate. This makes a Win Win combination. Good Luck

Instead of using bleach, could you use vinegar? I generally use vinegar in a spray bottle and bicarbonate of soda on a scrubbing brush to clean grout. The combination of the two is very satisfying! My understanding is that vinegar will kill most moulds. Whilst bleach is effective, I generally feel it’s probably too corrosive to other things to be my first choice.

I removed mould around interior window frames and sills by using rolled-up Kleenex totally soaked in 3% hydrogen peroxide and applied for 3 hours. Peroxide kills mould right down to its “roots”, while bleach does not. There was a bit of rust left behind, so after a thorough rinsing, I repeated the same treatment with white vinegar, scrubbing it off with a paste of white vinegar and baking soda (very fizzy). My 35-year-old windows (inherited in very poor condition) now look like new-build windows. If you let the condensation build up on windows, you will have a brand-new infestation. Even when I maintain 30-37% humidity in the winter, I MUST wipe down the windows at least once or twice a day, most days.

I like using chlorine bleach the thick stuff in the shower stall, leave it on for a few minutes and scrub it with a used toothbrush. also I like using in the toilet around the inside, I fill a squeeze bottle from Wal-mart the kind that ketchup and mustard come in that you can buy for a buck and squirt the inside with the "no splash" thick bleach. Works great, don't scrub it, just leave it on and the thickness sticks to the inside of the toilet!

A new bath install, so I opted to pay the extra for Forever White Sanitary Sealant with a 10 years no-mould guarantee. 1 year later and it was all mouldy. So I cleaned it all off with a common brand mould cleaner and preventer. Weeks later it was all turning black again. :-(

I'm going to get the wife on this one as soon as she's finished cooking my dinner. Hopefully it's all clean when I get back from the pub.

Are dehumifers worth using and do they kill mold already in a room or do they just stop new mold appearing also is salt effective and ok to use in dehumifers that have crystals in the top of dehumifer when Crystal's have run out I have mold in my bedroom and I use dehumifers and I dont wanna have to keep buying more dehumifers

The mound here is on top of the sealant not under it yes? I’m guessing only way to remove mould under the sealant is to replace it.

You can use liquid call hypo for swimming pools use sparingly and ventilate very strong will work in minutes not hours but this and the bleach method DOES NOT KILL THE MOLD it only bleaches out the color it's still there only color less you have to scrub it to break the mold cells to allow the bleach / cleaner to do it's job from the inside out .

The only thing that kills mold is 1/4 tsp clove oil to 1 litre water. (no more or it wont work) Bleach only takes away the colour and you will find it still grows just invisibly, It is still there. Bleach does not kill mold. See Shannon Lush. That mold is not gone just the colour is gone. Sorry to inform you.

Remove old sealant and use a good qaulity anti bacterial sealant or whatever works best I'd never use bleach or anything acidic as it degrades the silicone drys it out etc

Will this work with coloured sealant- will it discolour it or will the sealant retain its natural colour? Thanks

For the grout in between your tiles apply neat bleach with a toothbrush and just leave for a few hours and scrub with the toothbrush. May need to repeat. I just sometimes leave the bleach on till next person showers.

A person who cleans roofs of mold told me to use pool shock that you can buy from a pool supply store. It is more concentrated that regular bleach. My question is how do you remove the mold on the vertical surfaces?
