Elizabeth Maher is a carer at Feros Care's Byron Bay Residential Village, which is a little like a lush tropical beach resort, but with more intimacy and charm!
Feros Care is a multi-award winning non-profit organisation whose mission is to support senior Australians to live their best life. One of our most important corporate strategies is to create a workplace culture where we attract positive, energetic and passionate people who love to innovate, celebrate and importantly work enthusiastically to achieve our company’s vision and mission.
As an expanding organisation, Feros Care is constantly looking for talented and energetic new staff members to join our growing teams in the areas of nursing; personal and domestic care, allied health, case management, project management and administration. Our team members have a passion for working with seniors and see their role as a privilege (see Employment). All appointed staff undergo an extensive hiring process with interviews, professional reference checks and criminal record screening.
If you would like to join us, please apply for a position by visiting www.feroscare....

Yes! This woman gets it! I feel the same. Changed from office work to care work aged 46. Wish I'd done it sooner! Such lovely people. Even when they have their moments. It doesn't last long and when it's over they're lovely again. The aspect of personal care probably scares off so many people from this work but honestly you get used to after after a few days. It's surprising how quickly you just adapt and get on with it. It is so much more rewarding than it is demanding. All the thankyou's and brightening someone's day just keeps you going. 💛

This is actually a hard job, you have to do everything according to the client's preferences in very very details, but there is always a bit difference between what the client serve themselves and what other people serve them.

You told nothing but the truth! I'm a care aide, I've been one off and on for like 3 years. Getting a client that fits is very hard. Either the family becomes a problem or the client is difficult. I have a really cool client now and I truly believe that he will be my one and only client that I deal with. Care aide jobs can be a hassle. After him I'm not doing no more care aiding jobs. I will definitely move on to something else.

I’m doing a level 1 course in preparing to work in adult social care. I can get a interview as a HCA in a hospital or as a carer in a care home. I have one quick question do carers in a care home have to wash and iron peoples clothes? I’m asking because I suck at ironing haha.

I started in a care job and yes they have a laundry room and laundry staff, as well as cleaners and cooks. So basically my role doesn't include all that. As care assistant I am on one to one with a resident or otherwise I am put on serving food and drinks, or on the call bell with other carers and we all assist whoever needs it, as well as regular personal care for all but especially those who are bedbound.

My daughter has been a domiciliary carer for many years & loves her job For the responsibilities she has the pay is dreadful. She is paid a small smount of petrol money & isnt salaried .If she needs time off occasionally as she or my g/son is ill she isnt paid .The clients are elderly so inevitably ,they pass .She is never given the hours she needs ,eg next Sunday they've given her an early morning call then a 4 hour gap until the next , no le5trol money & only paid for the people seen .Its disgusting, the way she' s treated when they are aooare y short of carers
