Because most European road circuits, on which GTs and group six prototypes raced in the '60s and '70s had a clockwise-direction layout. With higher number of right cormers a driver had to aim at, it was obvious choice to mount his seat and steering wheel at the right side of the car, for better visibility.

Do you remember? Lancia stratus did use actually Ferrari Dino engine that’s why they sound the same!
