We've driven the most exciting cars in the world on the great roads and tracks, but even this one is new to us: A Ferrari 488 Challenge race car driven on a replica of the iconic Silverstone Grand Prix circuit cut into a frozen lake. Because why not?
So with a set of studded tyres, some clean thermals and a day to play at the Lapland Ice Driving centre, Jethro Bovingdon does his best to avoid the snow banks. And frostbite.

I am sorry if this is harsh, but... Why? I had that same question why I saw it in the Magazine.. Why? What is the Point of Taking a Car that is not Road Legal, to an Ice Facility that 90% of Your Readers will never see outside of the Printed Page or their KZbin Viewing Device of Choice? Please leave such Gimmickry to Top Gear or the Grand Tour. I.... genuinely expect better from Evo! I was and am quite Disappointed to be honest. We have, at most, 8 years of internal combustion left, and we may not even have that, all it needs is for a new Government trying to ingratiate itself to the Evil Unification or the Uniformly Nasty or Miss Thunberg...or all three, and the deadline could come even sooner, and I am not sure Evo has 8 years of issues left either, with more and more companies, even Lotus (which sadly, I think will be the companies demise :( ) going down the "we are only going to make BEV SUV's from 2025" Route and less and less drivers cars coming out as more companies focus instead on white goods mobile Fridge/ Freezers (the aforementioned BEV SUV's) , meaning Evo is getting ever more pages of classics and resto mods, I can, although I hope I am completely wrong on this see a day when the Evo content is just Transferred over to Octane to save Money, especially given Enzo and Vantage going out of Print far too soon :( As a Result, I am not sure it is a good idea to waste time on.... Pointless Features. Come on, could You have not just gotten together the 30 best EVO Cars from the past 300 Issues, all the way from the classic GC8C Impreza Turbo that is practically the magazines foundation stone, up to the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS (calling it now, its Probably going to Win ECOTY unless, by some Mad Circumstances, someone chucks the Team the Keys to the T.50!) and take them to the old "Ostmidlandschliefe" (the Old Evo route at Northamptonshire that Predates even the Evo Triangle) so we could see the advancement of the EVO Car over the Years? now that would have been worth the Petrol! oh well, there is always another issue for that to Happen. Please, just, no more Top Gear style Gimmickry, as the Gimmickry (that and their *insistence* on using Autism as an Insult) is why I stopped watching that Program over 12 Years ago :( Please, can we have some better Features in Future? Thank You. Peace. Edit: Received issue 301, *much* more like it with the Article on the GT4RS Vs Huracan STO, NA2 NSX Type R, and 458 Speciale on le Route Napoleon . Now *that* is an EVO Feature :)

Its a sad time to be a car enthusiast.. on one hand, in the last 25yrs we've gotten the greatest ICE driver's cars/sports cars/supercars with big n/a or supercharged v8's, v10's & v12's.. along with manual transmissions. But on the other hand, we're witnessing the end of an era. Cars are no longer what they used to be, hell, you cant even get a CORVETTE with a manual anymore🤦‍♂️ Everything is going hybrid/EV.. or at the very least, twin turbo/small displacement. And pretty much no-one makes manual sports cars/supercars anymore. The arbitrary rules on emissions is sad to witness. And it angers me that it's really just a sham. Ev's arent better for the environment or 'global warming'. Even if every single car was electric, it would have practically zero change on Earth's temperature. And not to mention the amount of pollution caused by mining/manufacturing batteries. Or the fact that most electricity is produced by burning coal & other fossil fuels😅🤦‍♂️

@@flexinclouds Thank You for the Kind Words. Indeed, these are terrible times to be a Car Enthusiast. Although these last 25 Years or so, beginning perhaps with the Greatest Drivers Car of all time, the McLaren F1, to this Day still the Fastest Naturally Aspirated Car in the World, but also with one of the world's greatest Chassis, a Jewel of a Bespoke V12, and a truly Slick Manual, we have seen some incredible Cars since, such as the 4th Gen MX5 keeping classic sports cars alive, The Noble M12./M400 giving Supercar Performance in a Hatchback Budget, the Legendary Impreza Vs Evo Battles, (with Support Plays from Escort Cossie, Delta Integrale, baby godzilla and GT-Four) Hot Hatchbacks with Manual Gearboxes and Chassis so Tight they will Shade a GT3 911 and go round the 'Ring Faster than an LMP2!, the 911 and Cayman Perfected (GT3 and GT4), the Track Toy Phenomenon, we saw a golden era and, indeed, need to be glad of that but, perhaps, we are seeing, now, possibly, the Car Enthusiast equivalent to the Fall of Rome. I concur, the Corvette going DSG only to make Room for Hybrid is a Tragedy (what next a Corvette BEV SUV? after Mach E, and with the Rumors of the Next Camaro being a BEV SUV, I am not ruling anything Out!)and a Decision that I think is going to Bite GM given the new (S550) Mustang comes with a 6 Speed Manual as Standard, is more powerful than Z51 in "Dark Horse" Form, and is cheaper! Ferrari going DSG Only around 2009 opened up a Can of Worms that has all but ended the Manual Gearbox, at least in Europe, as we do have some very odd Situations caused by the *Ludicrous* Emissions Laws put in Place by the Evil Unification, such as the one, as example, where the Current Golf R is DSG Only in Europe, but is available with a 6 Speed Manual in the US! Absolutely, it truly Saddens me to see how many great Cars have been needlessly ended through inexplicable cancellation to be replaced with Hideously Ugly, Hybrid, or even Fully BEV only, Ridiculously Heavy and basically Pointless SUVs! (I am looking at You Megane...what happened?) even Porsche is Replacing the Cayman and the Boxter with Overweight BEV's, and the 911 may not be far behind, Aston Martin are going BEV Soon (Hybrids already well on the way), Jaguar is going to be a BEV SUV only Brand in a Few years, even LOTUS is going down the Direction of "BEV SUV, made in China, and nothing but", path to Destruction. Seriously, Lotus Buyers are not going to want a BEV SUV from China, and typical White Goods Buyers are not going to want something Described as being "Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious" over a Nice, Safe, Reliable, "Known Product" like a Toyota. I don't see a Market for it...and I think it will be the End of Lotus unless they do the Right thing, cancel this silly Lump that they call the "Eletre" and put the S1 Elise back into Production! Even Track-Day Cars are going BEV! such as Ariel's HiPerCar, which so Far has shown itself to be both Colossally Overweight and Stunningly Unreliable! Only the little McMurtry Spierling (the mad little Electric Batmobile that Annihilated the Record at GFOS) has a weight even remotely Approaching Sensible! Everything Else, even in the Track Toy Segment, by going BEV, now weighs the Same as an E34 M5, a Super Saloon! Which is no good for Laptime, Handling, or Battery Life, meaning 80% of your Ten hour Trackday is going to be spent in the Pits Recharging the Silly thing because the Battery Went Dead in 4 , below Par, Laps, unless You were Sensible Enough to also bring the Old Dax Rush (Complete with Filthy old GM LS1 Heritage Crate Sticking out the Top of the Bonnet) as well to use while the E-Seven is Plugged into the Mains! And of course, everything is going small displacement Turbo, resulting in Cars *far* too Fast to use on the Road, Handling so Spiky it can only be tamed with all Wheel Drive (more weight), but also a Mountain of Torque that makes using a Manual Transmission Impossible as the Torque will just Rip anything Short of a Tremec Magnum to Shreds and nice try selling a Car with a Box like the Magnum (With 80's Supercar Spec "Donkey Kick" Clutch and a Lever that feels like it belongs in Goliath, Garth Knights Infamous Indestructible Semi Truck!) to Your Typical Instagram Influencer, who, sadly, probably does not know a Clutch Pedal from a Foot operated Parking Brake. Hybrid Mania also makes no sense, given that they are Extremely Heavy (which fouls the Handling and Increases the Fuel Usage due to Over-Stressing the Undersized Engine) and are nowhere Near as Efficient as Advertised, I know the EVO Team tend to drive everywhere as if its 5 Minutes afore the Pubs Close and they are Desperate for a Prawn Sarnie and a Packet of Cheese and Onion, but barely 32 MPG from a Car Advertised as doing over 70 is *very* Suspicious to Me! It is true that although, as Jethro Bovingdon Pointed out, the Manual is making a *mighty* Resurgence, its only Really at the Top End of the Scale, £1,000,000+ Hypercars that are not likely to be seen anywhere outside of the Hermetically Sealed Vault at the Bottom of some Billionaires Volcano Lair (T.50, T.33, Utopia, CC850, etc, but.. how rare will the Manual Versions be? given most of the Instagram Influencers who are going to buy them will, naturally, opt for the DSG Option as they do not know how to "Drive Stick"!) or the Rarefied world of £100,000+ Restomodded 964's and 993's , at the Bottom end of the Scale, the Manual has all but Vanished... if You want the Track Pack on the New WRX, You have to have the CVT, The GR86 is only on Sale for 2 Years, the 400Z is not coming to Europe at all due to Emissions Legislation, the GR Yaris is on Borrowed Time and we have been Denied the GR Corolla, the Ford Fiesta ST and Focus ST are on their last Legs, soon most likely to be Replaced fully, as they have in the US, with the Puma and Kuga/Edge as a Crossover is Easier to Electrify, never mind the Awful Handling from the massively Increased Weight and Higher Centre of Gravity, the Golf R has gone DSG Only in Europe, as has the Cupra Leon, and even the High End makes for Depressing Reading, Ferrari are DSG Only, Aston Martin has abandoned its Plan to always offer a Manual and go DSG Only for Reasons still insufficiently Explained (but now that Herr Moers has left the Company quick Smart, anything could happen!) Audi is DSG only, Lamborghini are DSG Only, McLaren are DSG Only, Mercedes Benz are DSG or Automatic Only (and are Replacing the Thwomping Big V8 (and even that, as a 4 Liter Twin Turbo is a Shadow of its old 6.2 Liter N/A Self!) with a Hybrid Inline 4 in the C Class and how long before the E-Class and the GT and the SL Follow in its Downsizing Madness?) ..at the Low to Mid End, its only Really a Few (Mazda MX5, Toyota GR (now the Supra has finally got the manual it should have had at launch!) Morgan (only on Super 3 and Plus 4, but, hopefully Plus 6 also may get the GR Supra Manual) Ford (Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Current Mustang GT and Mach 1, S550 Mustang GT and Dark Horse), BMW M2, Porsche Cayman/Boxter and 911, Noble M500 and Lotus Emira) that are hanging onto the Manual. Absolutely! this "no more than 10KGFM across the whole range or its 10 billion Euros a Day" "no, these roads are Zero Emissions, BEV only" Emissions Rubbish is just Insane! and it's all a Hoax! more and more Scientists are becoming Convinced that Global Warming/ Greenhouse Gasses are the Biggest Hoax since "Peace in our Time!" so, these Rules are for nothing. Most assuredly, BEV Cars are *not* Eco Friendly in the Slightest, the Production of Batteries is one of *The* most toxic Industrial Processes known to man, the Disposal is Akin to Disposing of Nuclear Waste, if they Catch Fire ones Lungs are Ruined for the rest of one's Life, and indeed, 90% of the Electricity is from Massive great Big Coal Fired Plants like Datteln 4 which Pump out a Clag that can Probably be Seen from the top of Snowdonia! I have the Horrible Feeling that if Battery Production Emissions, Power Generation Emissions (Based on Datteln 4) and Battery Disposal waste were added into the WLTP Figures, You would get a Figure so Shockingly Filthy it would make a Dodge Challenger SRT Widebody H-Cat Last Orders Black Ghost look as Harmless as a 1 Liter Triple City Car by Comparison! All just to be seen as Appeasing a Silly little Schoolgirl and Her even Sillier Followers, who are also, given they go to their Protests by Cars (often massive bungy great Range Rovers powered by ICE), and wear Plastic and Leather Clothing, and Eat Food made in Factories that run on Coal Generated Electricity, and Live in Homes Lit and Warmed by Coal Powered Electricity, and By Gas, one of the most colossal groups of Hypocrites in the entire modern world! So we are losing Our Drivers Cars....for no good Reason! what a massive Shame. Sorry for Basically "Piping the Lament of Glen EVO" there... but, Sadly, the Car World has gone upside down and not for the better,... it's enough to make one consider a Short, Final, Holiday to little Storping in the Swuff!
