You should mention that Ferrari also got a 24kg weight penalty. So the weight difference between them and Toyota is not that large. What really saved Ferrari's race in terms of regulation is that WEC allowed tyre warmer for leman. And Ferrari was struggling with tyre warming all season.
@ConfiUser39 ай бұрын
You're right. This is something that really annoys me. The amount of news resources and other things telling us that Toyota got more weight were true, but they were often not telling the whole story, and if they did, it basically was very minor that the reader won't remember. Ferrari also got 24 kg more, Cadillac 11 kg, Porsche 3 kg. The Peugeot was left untouched. It's definitely not like Ferrari was given the win on a silver plate. You could also say the Toyota was rated too well for the first three races, but then you're usually told that Toyota is just better as a team or that their drivers are better. To be fair, since Toyota has a lot more experience, this probably has some merit, however Ferrari building a more or less bullet proof car from day one and it performs so well out of the gate, this is outstanding nevertheless.
@ananayjoshi9 ай бұрын
No the reasoning behind ferrari and tyre deg was that it was specifically designed for lemans to increase stint timing because they knew they wouldn't be as fast as toyota and wanted to reduce the tire changes. So they did miserable at spa because of the rain, and lost a lot of time at lemans during rain, however they ran on softer tires during the night which allowed them to claw back the deficit and ran meds/hards in the morning to finish it off. Point being they wanted to ein lemans more than WEC because of history and they managed to do that
@Happy-wb8gi9 ай бұрын
It was all fair, both teams were helped and penalised. Period.
@BlasterJunos9 ай бұрын
Not to mention that Toyota also had some real bad luck with their lead car getting hit in the rear at night which forced them to retire and then the #8 car facing technical difficulties which put them a lap behind instead of having a closer dogfight in the closing laps of Le Mans 2023. As for their performance in the 24hr Nurburgring, it's kinda sad that Kevin Este had to retire due to a crash considering he was putting so much pressure on Ferrari
@BlasterJunos9 ай бұрын
@@ConfiUser3 The win at 2023 Le Mans, though I do not like the result, was definitely a well earned win. Ferrari and Toyota's rivalry in the race was insane. WEC 2023 was definitely a great season. You also forgot to mention one of the keys to their success: AF Corse. Yes, it was a Ferrari car, but the team running it wasn't one necessarily built from scratch by Ferrari. AF Corse has been a loyal partner of Ferrari's for years through their GT program, and with around 10+ years of experience running at Le Mans and the WEC, it was a logical decision to have them run the Hypercar program (hence saving them a "couple of seasons" worth of trying to understand how the whole shebang works in the WEC).

I liked that cinematic-like bit in the end. Something to be kept in mind is that despite the BoP intervention, Toyota Gazoo Racing still put up one hell of a fight against the Ferrari AF Corse. Which shows the testament of their Le Mans experience of trials of errors and close calls, and eventual victories starting from 2018 since the 80s. Much appreciation for Peugeot as well for their everything from the car alone, to their potential of winning. With all being said, I hope the BoP will try to be consistent to their fairest so that even the starting-to-age Toyota will still be fresh for the fight with reigning Le Mans winner - Ferrari. Couldn't think of Le Mans without Toyota in the recent years, since Nissan and Mazda are just.. at their thing.

This video is extremely sensationalized at best and misinformed at worst. And I say this with hope that your future is bright! 0:00 “Ferrari had their entire reputation on the line”. No they didn’t. No one expected them to win on their return. 0:04 “For 58 long years they hadn’t won one of the most important races in history” You completely neglect Ferraris many manufacturer championships and NUMEROUS class wins at Le Mans since 1965. Since 1998: -1998 LMP1 class win (8th overall, LMGT1 was the top class) -2003 GTS class win (10th overall) -2008 GT2 class win -2009 GT2 class win -2012 LMGTE PRO class win -2014 LMGTE PRO class win -2015 LMGTE AM class win -2016 LMGTE AM class win -2017 LMGTE AM class win -2019 LMGTE AM class win -2021 LMGTE PRO class win -2021 LMGTE AM class win The world endurance championship debuted in 2012. Ferrari is the most successful GT constructer in the championships history. Winning 7 of 10 pro championships (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022). While it’s true Ferrari had not won the top class since 1965. They have won. And they clearly know how to build an endurance race car and go endurance racing. 0:11 “It was a wound that deeply hurt Ferrari and that they desperately needed to heal” Was it really? 0:18 “They saw the opportunity to redeem themselves, rescue their legendary reputation as one of the most iconic names in automotive history” Are we talking about the same Ferrari. They are THE most iconic name in Motorsport history regardless of a 2023 Le Mans outright win. 0:41 “So they decided in 1973 to retire from racing at Le Mans completely” See above about recent success at Le Mans. 0:52 “Because of their retirement they now had to start from zero all the experience they had from their successful era in Le Mans was gone” May I re state: Since 2012 Ferrari has won 7 manufacturer championships in GTE PRO and 12 class wins at le mans since 1998. The team that ran the extremely successful GTE PRO program (AF Corse) would also be running the 499P. AF Corse know how to win endurance races 1:07 “It would take Ferrari a couple of seasons to compete at the same level as the rest of the field” Maybe you don’t quite understand balance of performance. But you should before making this claim. In theory the Ferrari and every other car in the field have an equal maximum performance. 1:14 “They only had one shot at [winning le mans]” No they didn’t. If they lost they’d come back next year and try again. Their participation in WEC did not hinge on a 2023 Le Mans victory. 1:00 “Their F1 experience would not help them” *1 minute later* 1:50 “They took some of the hybrid technology from their F1 car” At least don’t contradict yourself within 1 minute of making a claim. 2:48 “There was no time for testing” The 499P actually did extensive testing at Ferraris race track in Modena Italy and 2 days of testing at Monza. The Ferrari 499P did its first test on July 6 2022. Sebring was March 17 2023. 3:00 “[Toyota] had been dominating the 24h of Le Mans for 5 years” They had no real competition, so I wouldn’t say they dominated. But they did indeed win the past 5 races. 3:10 *Sebring recap* You misrepresented the Ferraris pace. The #50 Ferrari actually qualified first ahead of both Toyotas. They took some risks with strategy and some sloppy driving cost them any chance of a win. There was more to the race than just finishing 2 laps ahead. 3:16 *recap leading up to Le Mans* Ferrari had the edge over Toyota at Spa Francorchamps, but with a lap time deletion did not secure pole. However if not for Ferraris issues warming the tires, they were actually faster than Toyota. This gave a lot of Ferrari fans hope going into Le Mans at the next round. Especially because tire warmers would be allowed further reducing the advantage Toyota had. 3:39 Ah, you finally mentioned Balance of Performance. Good. But then you didn’t give the full story. The BoP was not supposed to change. Which makes your “miracle” an even bigger “miracle” Ferrari also gained weight as it was clear Ferrari AND Toyota were too fast. Toyota was assigned 37kg weight increase (bad) and an increase in stint energy by 4 mega joules (good). Vs Ferrari’s incense of 24kg and 2 mega joule incense in stint energy. So overall it was a weight increase over Ferrari of 13kg and 2 extra MJ per stint. 4:18 “And right from the start everyone feared that the poor strategies that their F1 team is famous for would replicate here in Le Mans” No one who watches endurance racing thought Ferrari would have bad strategy. This is AF Corse. They know what they were doing. 4:59 “both Ferraris had an intense moment with another team that had vast experience in this race. Porsche” You cannot claim Ferrari had zero experience at Le Mans when you claim that Porsche has vast experience. Yes Porsche competed and won Le Mans outright multiple times in the LMP1 era. But they had never raced a LMDh at Le Mans. And their most recent pro experience at Le Mans was in GTE PRO, the same as Ferrari. 5:18 RIP JOTA, you were doing amazing 6:10 great recap of this crash! It was a weird one Notes: Your race recap was really good! You probably should have talked about the Toyota brake issues. It was definitely a contributing factor in Ferrari pulling away. Overall: As someone who lives and breathes endurance racing I am so glad there is someone covering Le Mans and endurance racing as a whole. Your video was extremely well produced. This was one of the greatest 24h of Le Mans maybe ever and I’m glad people are telling the story. However I think you sensationalized things a lot. Most of my problems with the video were with setting the context. The race needed no sensationalizing (what a race). I think that including AF Corse and their recent success in GTE PRO with Ferrari is important to the story. Including the glimmers of hope with pole positions and a close performance at Spa. As well as an overall recap of the teams joining in 2022/2023 and the rules around LMH and LMDh. The fact that instead of beating 4 cars to victory you now needed to beat 18 cars. If you decide to do further WEC coverage I’d suggest taking it slower include a bit more context without sensationalizing the context. Not everything needs to be win or else face shame and never return. You earned a subscriber and I really look forward to your future work! Just let the stories breathe. Great work! My criticism comes from wanting you to succeed and reach the diehard endurance community.

You're right about Toyota but dead wrong about Mazda. So the 787B went the same way the German Mercedes and Porsches, the British Jaguars, and the Japanese Nissan and the Toyotas. No European conspiracy against the rotary engine.
