The natural diet of their wild ancestors consisted of whole small prey, i.e., meat, organs, bones, skin, feathers, and fur. Ferrets have short digestive systems and quick metabolism, so they need to eat frequently. This reminds me of my friend's ferret, Pixie, who likes to hunt down and torture cockroaches. She'll hold them with her paw, chew on their heads, and even give them a chance to try and escape, just so she can catch them again. All of this happens to her daddy's chagrin, since he's creeped out by roaches and won't go near her during or after a kill, which just happens to be her favorite time to cuddle.

Does anybody know if the parent chewed up the skull and jaw bones to make it easier for the baby to eat? That'd be the sweetest and most vicious thing I've ever seen if that were the case. Kinda like how mom's cutt steak into tiny pieces for their kids.

megsavs they still poop a lot but it's a lot smaller. not hard pellets though.

+Jack White - they just do... Yuki and Kuma grew up eating different kinds of meat, not sure about Spike but he loves it anyway.

awesomedachshounds3 - understandable, I had rats and they it strange to accept my ferrets would eat them. But it's in their nature and it's the best thing on their diet.

I had rats... honestly, I would NEVER give any animal a live rat/mouse, but if you were, frozen is the best.
