Aldi have got their 3rd release of the Ferrex palm trim router currently for sale. A great tool and this is the 3rd one Ive purschased, the 1st is still going strong and these are formidable little machines are capable of good work and a useful often used addition to the workshop.
There is very little difference in this router from the previous model, power and wattage remains the same, lead length is the same, accessories are the same and the only real difference is a colour change in the body and the switch. Price seems to have gone up to £34.95 which isnt too expensive for what it is and the use you ll get out of it. Keep your eyes out for them getting reduced if theres stock left at your nearest store.
Included in the accesories is the bush guide and by removing the 4 screws in the base it slots in simply and securely. Using the bush guide with a pattern or template or even clamped edges we can do repeated accurate cuts time and time again and even make slotted cuts and sections in trays, mobile phone holders, bath boards etc.
There are many ways to make a template, from jigsaws, scroll saws, laser cutters. Doing it with none of that though you can use clamps and bits of wood for flats/straights/ Curves a bit more tricky, lids I use, jam jar lids, plates, pre existing curves. You can move it all around and create a template. Once youve got yourself a template its then quite easy to move and slide that about to make more templates.
Drop me a comment if youd like to see a video covering making some templates.
Thanks for watching, Bongo.

We have Spitfires (normally two) flying over our house every weekend in summer. You can buy a ride in one. Everyone stops and looks up, wonderful sight.

Hello my friend. When I saw that the noise in the beginning of the video was an airplane, I said oh :-). I thought it was an accident. These routers are like replica of the makita brand. because the appearance and design are very similar. I have been using the same for about 3 months. (makita 3709) I did not know what that black metal stamp is for :-) Now I found out thanks to you. thank you. It's great to use this in cuts using stencil. I have this video on my playlist. I should definitely try this out. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing. See you. stay healthy and happy. Big greetings. Yours truly.

Awesome job. I love it. Especially the Homer Simpson icon on it. Thanks for sharing. I was interested in that centre piece that you put on the router - does it help the router to run smoother over the surface? or does it keep the bit in place ? I have two routers but I have not used those things before - although I HAVE seen them on videos.

I've just bought one of those palm routers, didn't have a clue how to use that black metal disk. PS That Spitfire flew over my house earlier this week!

If you're worried about the guide bush wearing the pattern, dump the bush and use a pattern bit with the bearing at the top (or bottom depending which one you get). They run loads smoother because of the bearings. Also rough cut your material with a jigsaw first and then use your pattern to create the finished item. Easier to trim a piece than have to rout a cutter fullwidth groove around your template.

Hi, i think i have the same router you have but with a different brand name. Are the routers you have 500 watt routers? Does the shiny metal collar at the underside of the router gets very hot after let's say 5 minutes of use? Hope to hear from you. many thanks in advance

@@thepoultrypeople Hi. just saw another vid. The shiny metal ring on the bottom side of the router gets hot quickly after a few minutes of use. So i already have the answer. But what are you using 2 palm routers for if i may ask? I am thinking of buying another one because switching bits is a pain in the ass, and i like those little machines a lot. The one i have i use for trimming and carving. What's you're opinion on the matter of switching bits? Do i need to buy another one since they are so cheap? Many thanks

@@rosi6144 ok, i didnt find out much without extensive stripping down, probably needs more lube or something, 3/4 years on, theyre still ok Im using 2 palm routers because it makes more sense in quickly switching between the two instead of swapping them over, you answered the question yourself with the pain in the ass comment really :) Go for it dude, buy another router, I think I was paying around £20/$25 dollars each for them, its worth having 3 if Im honest of theses palm routers, theyre very useful

With them templates, i would have taken the excess off with a jigsaw, and just leave about a quarter inch to trim off. When you are asking your palm router to cut through 12mm? Ply, you are working the machine too hard. Remember it's not Elu, Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee. It's Aldi. Not a criticism btw, just something to give your palm router a longer life.

Thanks Tony, food for thought there, im still green about templates and getting my head around them. Ive got a few routers and yes, i grab whats suitable, punishing them in these review videos is more about showing that they are infact quite capable even though they are very budget. Still going strong here and not failed yet.
