Subscribed. It's that time of year again & I've just bought one of these to treat our back lawn which, like yours, was newly laid last Spring so your vid's invaluable, mate. Keep up the good work.

With these machines, the first tool is the power rake function and the second tool is the scarifier. Aerating is a byproduct of using this machine with the scarifying tool. Its not actually an aerator machine but you get some of the benefits of one.

I’m glad you said this. This is what I’ve seen in other videos so I was a little confused by this video and wondered if I was remembering it incorrectly
@sypher010110 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info. I was getting quite confused how this aerated as to me, neither attachment seemed like the aerators I had seen.

What you call the 'aerator' is the scarifier, and what you call the 'scarifier' is the rake

I bought one last year and used the scarifier a few times and it certainly does a good job. I used the 8mm setting. One major critisism I have, is that no response was received from Aldi or Ferex regarding the supplied wall mounting bracket. It was very frustrating to find that the bracket was useless having spent ages drilling 4 holes into a hard concrete wall for the mounting screws. There is no way to hang this model using this bracket.

That's a really helpful opinion. Thanks for this. I'm going to order one. I put in an order earlier in the week for manual tools but i think i can live with both.

I've had one of these for a while. The aerator turned my lawn to mud when I used it! Put me off, but it is really good as a scarifier. Just waiting for delivery of a manual aerator that takes cores out instead. Will be hard work but I prefer to be a bit more in control, and to be able to use the garden a bit sooner 😄

Tines = scarifier Blades = verticutter This is not an aerator. Aerators come in two forms, solid or hollow tines, this machine does neither. Yes your blades do provide grooves for air, but it isn't aeration, the purpose of the blades is to reduce the horizontal growth of the plant and create grooves if you want to seed.
@davel8313 жыл бұрын
Hi i would use a lute to help levelling the lawn , also this looks more like veritcutting than actually aerating
@mattyburrows90593 жыл бұрын
or maybe a 3m ladder..saves alot of messing and far better than a lute
@bigbaza307 ай бұрын
After you've used the Scarifier, go over the lawn with the Lawnmower to collect all the dead grass, so you don't have to collect it manually.
@BOD9523 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these and tried out today. 3 passes of the scarifier on 3 setting seemed to be ok for my lawn. For me, the aerator just seemed like another pass of scarification and perhaps was a step too far for the lawn. I wasn't expecting it to rip at the grass in the same way as the scarifier. If I was doing this again, I'd just scarify without aeration. As I had already planned to overseed and top dress which I also done today , am hoping haven't done too much damage to the existing grass.
@BOD9523 жыл бұрын
In fact, looking at comments on part 1, I think both blade attachments are variations of scarification and not aeration. I was expecting the aerator to punch holes in the ground, it did not, but I got mixed up with both as you did. I had used a spring tine rake to scarify last autumn so assumed the spring tine rake type attachment was the scarifier. Both seemed to do the same thing as I said above.

I had exactly the same issue with the aerator, but I was pretty impressed with the scarifier, a good machine for £68 , I would definitely recommend it
@dr61242 жыл бұрын
Are you not calling the 'power rake' attachment (thin prongs/tines) the scarifier? I thought this attachment in this video is a scarifier and that pulls out the thatch.

A GOOD VIDEO AND A GOOD EFFORT, HAS FAR HAS A SCARIFYIER BRILLIANT BUT PERSONALLY AN AERATOR " PRITY RUBBISH " ALL ONE IS DOING IS RIPPING UP YOUR LAWN. THE ONLY GOOD WAY TO DO THE JOB IS WITH A PLUG AERATOR WITH NO DAMAGE WHAT SO EVER TO THE GRASS. 🙂👌

Alright mate. Did you get to the bottom about if this is an aerator? I have the one from Lidl and don't really understand what the two carriages do.
@NoviceGardener3 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve looked at since, it seems I’ve mixed them up in the videos (I really need to get them renamed). The one with the blades seems to be the scarifier with the rake type attachment being the aerator.
@paulhopkins6863 жыл бұрын
@@NoviceGardener Im sure my instructions are wrong. Im sure the blades are the ones to cut though the soil and aerator it. Good watch with the channel BTW 👍
@canalboating3 жыл бұрын
@@NoviceGardener Hi just watched your video, great job and well reviewed, just to clarify on the blades as I've been into lawncare for a long time I think Aldi are misleading with their description of this machine, the first blade you used the spring tine one is a lawnrake and used on the higher settings will brush through the sward (it shouldn't really touch the soil surface) and remove small amounts of thatch, leaves, twigs etc it can be done throughout the season on the higher settings so as not to damage the lawn, the second blade is the scarifier and this is used for more aggressive scarification usually done late spring or early Autumn followed by overseeding and topdressing with soil or compost . Aeration usually requires solid tines such as a garden fork or hollow tines which remove cores of soil there are specific manual tools available for this or powered machines which can be hired or bought. Just my opinion and hope it helps someone
