I've got 22 acres of grazing land Scott which I want to cut fairly low. Fairly flat but some minor slopes. I'm awaiting a demo on one of these. Any idea how economical they are. How much would it cost you to cut say a. 5 agree paddock or a football pitch? To date I have cut with a compact tractor with 1.8m flail mower using red diesel and to be honest it still leaves quite a mess (clumps of grass). How will this compare mate.
@scottellwoodgardening28710 ай бұрын
You can cut a normal football pitch in 10 minutes and at a petrol cost of around £3 so it’s very economical. It likes flat areas not so much up and down areas as it’s a big deck and does scalp.
@JayRockGroundsMaintenance Жыл бұрын
What size deck you got on this one mate? Currently looking into the Ferris ISX800 - a good couple below yours but it looks like a good sit on to start with to go alongside the 36” evolution. Probably looking into the 52” so I don’t need to upgrade the trailer!😂
@scottellwoodgardening287 Жыл бұрын
It’s a 60 inch deck Sam. Cuts a standard football pitch in 20 minutes.

Does this mower do poorly while turning on a slope? Seems like it would compress the suspension on one side and have an uneven cut.
@scottellwoodgardening287 Жыл бұрын
They are more for flat open spaces. They don’t like banks and slopes much.
@dagtailgroundmaintenance2 жыл бұрын
Looks like a good all-rounder Scott. Not too big or too small. What sort of mowing frequency do you have on that site or have you just agreed on visits per season? Do you keep it to 10 days? I think 10 days work well give or take a day.
@scottellwoodgardening2872 жыл бұрын
It’s 10 days mate but that was the first cut.

These mowers are proving very popular with grounds maintenance contractors these days. I reckon councils may end up going full-on big zero turn machines + flail triples in the next couple of years. It seems that cylinder triples are becoming less financially viable. However, that's just my prediction/opinion.
@davidtaylorbfd2 жыл бұрын
I work for my local council park section and we have to travel everywhere on our ride on mowers because the cost of getting trailers and new vans will be to high. So doubt the council will get these zero turns.
@scottellwoodgardening2872 жыл бұрын
I think cylinder mowers will be phased out eventually for rotary and flails as lots of councils are reducing cuts and cylinders won’t cut 3 weekly grass very well.
@GZ90902 жыл бұрын
@@scottellwoodgardening287 I agree, Scott.
@GZ90902 жыл бұрын
@@davidtaylorbfd I think it's likely they'll be used for parks, etc. As for housing estate areas, triple flail mowers(Toro and Ransomes) will be used. I think there will always be cylinder triples and gangs, but I suspect most councils and grounds maintenance contractors are eyeing up new flail machines, zero turns and stander mowers for schools and parks. However, I can see most councils doing away with cylinders in the next 5yrs or so. Moreover, the best electric mowers will be sought after too. That's the future, I'm afraid to say. I love diesel machines personally but fuel/oil is just going to keep on increasing as electric-powered machines become economical and feasible options.
@davidtaylorbfd2 жыл бұрын
@@GZ9090 My depot is the only one still using a cylinder for football pitches and cricket out fields. Can't do housing estates with it because it damages the cutting blades with all the crap on them. Other depot's have seven gang cylinder for crickets and football pitches. We use front mounted John Deere for other jobs, don't do a great job like a cylinder but it gets it down.

How you getting on with the Ferris a year on Scott?
@scottellwoodgardening287 Жыл бұрын
It’s been a good buy for the big jobs. It cuts a lot of grass in a day. In wet weather it doesn’t leave a mess and it’s very fuel efficient.

@scottellwoodgardening287 Жыл бұрын
@@TotalGroundManagementLTD no but I have a friend who uses one for the council. Very powerful machines and they cut very long grass but the finish leaves big clumps of grass that’s the only downside.
