Thank you so much! I've done exactly as your instructions say, and it is so much more practical! You don't need a tire or a top trellis, all you have to do is bend the stems over each other. But I need to add a word of caution to those doing this technique - press, and very carefully bend the FLAT CENTRAL parts, because those are the parts that are bendable, that's why he folds it. _Do not attempt to bend the 'fins' or the edges of the stem, they are brittle and do not stretch._ I cracked mine and almost completely broke the stem when I thought the fins would bend. But I did correctly after that careless mistake. Imagine the stem as an upright triangle, don't bend it right away. Press carefully until it flattens a bit, then you can fold the flat part.

But we all know, his plant in a pot does not fruit in 6 months... I mean, he cuts a mature branch and hangs it up top! He is not even covering it, I mean he basically lays it on top! hahaha
@ramdane77928 ай бұрын
How tall does the branch reach before it starts to bend?
@Evelynmay886 ай бұрын
Will keep this tip in mind. Dragon fruit are cacti and are shallow rooters. They need so much support because they are too heavy. This is a rare video that uses this technique as most growers chop to branch out increasing growth time. it makes sense to do bend for maturity to sprout fruit sooner. Hmmm interesting

Excellent video, we've been growing dragonfruit for about 6 years (White & Red) it was a learning process to get it to produce fruit, for everything we read was wrong for our area. With the number of plants, we have now our season harvest is about 200 hundred pounds.

Tell me about climate requirements and care please
@travelingman210002 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethdaniels3127 Dragon fruit is grown all over the world but doesn't do well in colder areas. We're in a desert area and have found that watering ours twice a week and using Cactus Juice fertilizer once a month (2 cap) while water works for our plants. Also dragon fruit can sunburn so be careful where you plant them. Many of the things in the above video we had to learn the hard way.

I'm not sure if this reply will still reach you but have you considered trying to plant yellow dragonfruit? I've been consistently hearing how it is superior to both the red and white variety. But I've also heard yellow dragonfruit has a shorter shelf life. But maybe its superior taste will still make it worth it.
@travelingman210002 жыл бұрын

Thank you so much for your videos they are truly awesome and I can't wait to see some more tomorrow. I was about to give up on the whole thing I cut so many back and threw them out recently. I will be trying this technique with my sad old dragonfruit. I likely will propagate from it to start again. It is hard growing as I am in the southern hemisphere and in the past have brought it indoors over winter. I have now gotten a big greenhouse where I am hoping to house the dragonfruit permanently 🤞 I enjoyed this tutorial it was very easy to follow and you make it look so simple. I'm also banking on the extra humidity in the greenhouse to aid in growing. Thanks Ferryman and I will subscribe.

From what I understand shoots/cutlings from mature, fruit bearing plant are the best if you want results sooner. Shoots removed from the growing plant can be used as well but they will take much longer to establish and bare fruit.

I guess when you're a desert plant you just send the roots out and hope for the best! 🐲
