So, the story is(if you pay attention to the opening scene when Fester is moonbathing) the alien spaceship beams all the townspeople up into the ship(so abducts them). Fester sets out on his "quest" to save the townspeople. Gomez stays at the mansion to fend the aliens off from getting inside. I'm not sure why you encounter the other family members throughout the town in other houses, but I guess the creators had to come up with a neat way for Fester to get his powerups. I have no idea what any of the enemies are actually called(maybe the manual for the game mentions it), especially the bosses. But, at least you have a fantastic soundtrack to listen to while you struggle through this game. I can understand why some people "hate" this game. Many people hate pain. Some people, however, relish in receiving pain and this is probably the type of game they enjoy. This is a game that hurts so bad, it's good. It's not "unplayable" or anything, but it is a game that takes a lot of time to get the hang of as far as aiming the gun and the whip.

Fester's "Avoid picking up weapon downgrades" Quest
@Musicradio77Network4 жыл бұрын
I hate weapons downgrades. Just like in “Athena” where you can get a weapon like a club, hammer, ball & chain. The worst weapons are the wand where you shoot sound waves, the bow & arrow which is worst, except for the boss in the “World of Ice” stage, and a purple sword was also worst. The bigger weapons was the Fire sword. You have to keep shooting the big sword until the health meter drains halfway through, and that sucked, they should keep it longer. I played “Athena” and it was so bad.

The biggest problem with this game is that everything in it is designed to slow you down. Despite the maze-like levels, it's still very linear, and there's not much to it straight through. So there are no checkpoints, the enemies are bullet sponges that can force you to retreat all the time, and your weapons are underpowered.

I agree with Mike about Stranger Things. The show is ok, but I don’t see what all the hype is about. The show is fun and enjoyable, but there isn’t really any originality to it. If the show wasn’t set in the 80s, I doubt it would be this popular.
@omikronweapon5 жыл бұрын
the 80's setting IS the originality in a way. or rather, the anti-originalty or nostalgia is the allure. It feels familiar, like a childhood friend you haven't seen in 30 years and for a couple of hours you remember how much fun you had together. Don't confuse popularity with things needing to be original, or even good. Familiar things are probably more likely to be popular rather than new original things. The general public keeps running to the next half-assed superhero movie as well. They're not terribly good, and certainly not original anymore. But people enjoy them, they know that they're going to have a good time watching them. It's the generic masses that decide what's POPULAR. In that way, popularity is never 'wrong', how much you might feel it doesnt 'deserve' it. It's really as Mike stated before, he LIKES playing Fester's Quest, even though it isn't a very good game and other people don't understand why he still wants to play it. Just a little strange he can't make the reverse observation, but I guess that's human nature. Our own quirkiness makes sense, but other people's doesnt.

Which when entered, looks to forward to a new black screen With the boss, as it dies. Works on the final boss as well!

Mike, a few things... 1. About the gun mechanic Think about it like this (when it comes to the gun). Blaster Master, one of my favorite SunSoft games (actually, _one_ of my favorite NES games in general), had actually a much less forgiving gun-mechanic. When you were Jason in the same similar overhead view modes (like the sewer's in Fester's Quest), every single time you got hit, you would loose a gun upgrade, which was the absolute WORST on bosses. Imagine not being able to get hit once on a boss unless you didn't care about loosing your gun (and again, there were no missiles, no potions of any kind (invincibility or health), no nooses, etc.. 2. Emulation (since you mentioned save states) I get the concern about TAS (Tool Assisted Speed-runs), yeah I agree; those are kind've lame. I understand if your concern, with emulation (in general), is frame-lag. I disagree that that's really that much of an issue but there's at least some technical reasoning behind it and can't really argue against that -- given that emulation is software interpretation of, in the case of NES, Ricoh byte-code. I could go back or forth on the point of frame-lag as I could make cases for either side of why it's an issue or not... 3. Save states There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with using save states. I really wish you would and James would cut the shit out and stop preaching that bullshit. I'm sure there are A LOT of people that watch you both that don't have a technical background, and just blindly believe you two. That said, yes, you can use them to cheese a game and save just before a boss and keep reiterating attempt after attempt, or even worse, after every shot a boss takes, you save if he misses. But that's kinda lame to classify any usage of save states as some form of cheating or illegitimate experience. That's like saying, there are some bad NES games out there, therefore any game on the NES console is bad and NEVER recognizing the other half -- that which is, there are GREAT games on the NES (in the save state example: there are perfectly legit and GREAT ways to use save states; like not needing to leave your NES on for two days!). I've beaten Blaster Master a few times, but I don't recall if I used save states (I know, typically, if I DO use save states it's only to resume the game from taking a break, not to reiterate boss-fight attempt after attempt one right after another). I know I did use maps, and to be perfectly honest, you should have too for Fester's Quest because that IS legitimate. You know... you go through so much effort to try to make your play through experience as "legit" as possible, but you go overboard and frustrate the hell out of yourself by not taking advantage of things that still, imho, qualify your experience as legit. For Fester's Quest, using a map (even you said it) would be a HUGE help! Not for nothing, but many of us 80's kids used maps... Remember a thing called Nintendo Power? :P Of course you do. So what's to say that Nintendo Power couldn't have come out with a map for Fester's Quest? I mean I don't think they did, but it's certainly not because they didn't do maps; they did maps ALL the time! (I had wished they did one for Goonies II, which I beat as a little kid in the 80's a few times on regular NES. Hell I think Metroid had a map in one of the Nintendo Powers. Ninja Gaiden was another one). Seriously man, stop getting so fixated on legitimacy so much. You're screwing yourself over unnecessarily. It's STILL legit even using a map. Not using a map, when you consider all of what I wrote, is almost like you're setting out to prove something. 4. Turbo controllers I understand your thought about the experience of frustration being different (as you said in your video, just going along and holding down the button vs. the tapping), and I even agree with it. However, I'd like to mention, it's still completely legit to do it with a turbo controller. They existed back then...

The reason there is no check points or password is because you have to go thru the whole game to recollect all the items. Since you don't have to rebeat all the bosses there isn't any other way to get them. I don't know if it's bad design or to keep you from using all your items before you get to the ship . because all they would have to do is give you A place to top off before you entered the ship . and stare you after the last boss you beat

This game is brutal(particularly on the thumb if you are not using a turbo controller). Also, Mike is right, a code system would have been useful(particularly in a game where the most life points you'll ever have is 4). Not to mention the bosses have no health meters, so you don't even know if you're doing any damage to them. Mega man is a button masher at times, but at least a boss battle will show the enemy's health. Not to mention Mega Man has a code system.
