Tete Montoliu (Barcelona 1933-1997).
He was the most international jazz musician our country has ever produced. A godfather of Lionel Hampton and consecrated as one of the greats of the genre alongside Dexter Gordon, Ron Carter, Johnny Griffin, Bobby Hutcherson, Ben Webster and Dizzy Gillespie himself, his figure has been crucial to the projection of the language of jazz to the world from the European continent. Over the course of his career, he recorded more than a hundred albums in which he made his contribution as an absolute jazz musician and as a pianist of this language with its own distinctive identity clear.
That is why, and for many other reasons, in memory of the 25 years of his absence and the celebration of his 90th birthday in 2023, we have considered it appropriate and necessary to activate this extraordinary proposal to keep the memory of his figure and his work alive and on stage.
A zero-kilometre initiative in the sense that its protagonists are a core group and diverse guests who had a close artistic and personal relationship with the Catalan pianist, such as double bassist Horacio Fumero, who together with drummer Peer Wyboris was the right-hand man of his stable trio during the last twenty years of his career; the vocalist Laura Simó, who was the last voice he incorporated into his line-ups; the pianist Ignasi Terraza, with whom he not only shared how to overcome the limitations of blindness but also the keys to swing and blues through his instrument, and the drummer Aldo Caviglia, who took part in the historic recording at the Palau de la Música in 1979.

What a magnificent concert, thank you Lars. Ignasi Terraza is in my opinion one of the best Jazz pianists in the world, right now, in the top 10, if not higher. Laura Simó, a veteran of Catalan Jazz, magnificent voice and style. Horacio Fumero, a living legend of the double bass, hardened in a thousand battles. David Xirgu (not Aldo Caviglia, it's an error in the credits) a great companion on the drums. I will be lucky enough to see Ignasi, Horacio and David in Madrid, next November 17, I suppose with a program similar to this one, but with another singer (María del Mar Bonet). So this November is going to be absolutely incredible for me in terms of live concerts: the 11th in Barcelona (Sant Andreu Jazz Band) and already in Madrid 12th (Irene Reig Trío), 17th (Ignasi Terraza Group), 19th (Canal Street Jazz Band) and 26th (Andrea Motis!!). Fantastic Autumn, without a doubt.

Strange. The website says Aldo Caviglia but the printed program indicates correctly David Xirgu. I copied from the website without looking closely at the names. Both persons are unknown to me.

@@larshansen7907 I suppose that in principle Aldo was planned, because he played with Tete Montoliu in his time, but for some reason in the end he couldn't and they replaced him with David Xirgu, a regular in Chamorro's recordings and member of Gabriela Suárez's quartet. This is the link to the concert they gave at Bar Aromes in the Sant Andreu neighborhood (another place where I would like to have a coffee) in which Andrea Motis, who was there as a spectator having breakfast with her parents, was encouraged to sing a song in the end. Ignasi's label Swift Records released a CD,, in 2023, from a live performance "Together Again (Live At Catella Festive 1994)" with Tete, Ms. Simo, and Mr. Fumero.
