Festival of Tabla 2023 - Vivek Pandya | Pratyush Goberdhan | Kaavya Valiveti

Vivek Pandya presents a Tabla solo in Teentaal, accompanied by Pratyush Goberdhan on Violin and Kaavya Valiveti on Harmonium.
Vivek Pandya
Vivek was naturally inclined towards the tabla at a young age, due to
early exposure to music from his family. His uncle and father learnt Indian classical music and used to regularly practice at home. Slowly, Vivek’s uncle, (Viral Pandya) set his hand onto the tabla. As time went on, Vivek’s father(Kalpit Pandya) took firm interest in a musical future. At the age of 5, Vivek was accepted as a disciple of the world renowned maestro, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. This journey has been continuing to date.
Vivek Pandya has been regarded as a tabla prodigy who can carry the legacy of the maestros to date, accompanying renowned young artists and respected musicians all around the globe, in Mumbai Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, solapur, NY, NJ, Phoenix, Texas, Delaware and more. He has currently two albums to his name, one with santoor player Vinay Desai called Chidaksha. He also featured in an album called 20 for 20, along with NY philharmonic member, Yale University and Juilliard Grad, Inbal Segev. He has been awarded to conduct an extra mural lecture series under MSU university in Baroda twice. To spread the legacy and culture of Indian Classical Music, Vivek has started to teach a few young students, who will be the future of this great art.
Pratyush Goberdhan
Pratyush Goberdhan grew up learning Hindustani classical from his late grandfather Sri Hari Shanker Adesh and his mother Smt Surabhi Adesh mainly focusing on vocal and violin. He continues his vocal taalim with Pt Arijit Mahanalabis and his mother Smt Surabhi Adesh. As well he recently started sarangi under the guidance of Sri Pankaj Mishra. He often performs with the Asian Cultural Association of Orlando and helps his mom teach music to children as well as special needs adults in the central Florida area.
Kaavya Valiveti
Kaavya Valiveti received her initial music training in Carnatic music from her mother and in western classical music, from various teachers. For the past twelve years, she has been a disciple of harmonium maestro Pt. Dr. Ravindra Katoti of Bengaluru, whose mission for the past several decades has been the promotion of harmonium, in particular as a solo instrument. She has given solo performances, has been a part of jugalbandis, and has accompanied several vocalists and tabla artists, including at the Festival of Tabla in 2019 and 2022.

Tabla Guru Pandit Samrat Kakkeri always taught that playing this kaida "Dha Dha Tita Dha Dha Tun Na + Na Na Tita Dha Dha Dhin Na" for practice 1 hour every day, makes a tabla player very strong and able to play anything in tabla solo and accompiment. He taught that this makes the hand very strong.

Vivek as always great playing but you should use different tabla probably higher scale, sound is not crisp not ringing. And also as always you play very diffrent kaydas which are fun to hear.

I have never ever commented about this topic, but for the first time I have to say that I really don't like the sound of the Tabla. It's very suppressed and without any sharpness.

@@FestivalofTabla I think the issue is not on your side. Sound for other tabla videos are fine. And Vivek has good nikas. I think for this video it is his tabla set which is faulty. The daya is not good at all.

Dayan tone sounds fine to me. I suppose it’s a matter of preference. It’s just a lower register and looks to be a Haridas vhatkar tabla which tend to have a deeper tone in my experience.
