I just bought a Rotex 150. Amazing machine... I wish my high school shop had Festool tools when I was there.

They are a game changer, I think the students appreciate them. Thank you

I noticed some choppiness when sanding. The vacuum system can be adjusted to reduce swirl marks in the wood and keep the sander in better control.

Just a heads up - the ets ec 125/3 can take a 6 inch pad as well as a 5 inch, this gives you 40% greater area to sand with - doesn't give you the stock removal of the rotex, but with some low grits it might be useful.
@joshuahasson96874 жыл бұрын
Very helpful, thank you! One question, when you say it takes both pads I assume you mean that you can get two different (5” & 6”) pads & change them out as needed?

Is it a big difference from the 125/3 vs the 150/5. ? In aggressiveness? Just got the 125/3 but haven't use it yet ? Friends told me the 125/3 Is weak :(

@@joshuahasson9687 Yes, if you check the Festool Owners Group forum there's a topic devoted to just this.

@@jayboogie1357 My experience is with the Mirka Deros 5mm and the Festool ets ec 150/3mm - the difference between the two in terms of material removal is significant. Again in my view, the 5mm orbit is more flexible as a working tool - you just have to pay a bit more attention to what grit you're using.

Great What sander is best for fine fine finish sanding?
@topsaw2 жыл бұрын
It works great with very fine sandpaper like 600 grit

As Festool Rotex is good I found Metabo 450 Turbotech works just as good as Festool for 1/2 of the price.It has adjustable gear to switch between 2.5 and 6.2 mm and it use 150mm sanding disc.
@topsaw4 жыл бұрын
I'll check it out for the high school woodshop
@celticwoodworking87064 жыл бұрын
I own a commercial wood shop. The Metabo 450 Turbo is the best finish sander I have seen yet. We don't use Festool anymore, as we can not justify the $620.00 price tag for the Rotex. The Bosch direct drive is a comparable unit to the Rotex at half the price. Check these out, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for sharing. Your voice sounds very familiar. Did you use to surf Trestles or San Onofre back in the late 90's early 2000's? Keep up the great work in teaching students skills they will definitely benefit from throughout their lives.

It's really not fair to let begining woodworkers use Festool sanders. I learned on the school of hard knock belt sander.
@topsaw5 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, it is only my advanced students allowed to use the Festool

This is true haha they will never appreciate not having to breath dust well at least until they use a Home Cheapo sander lol, at least their lungs are protected for the time being!

You meant to say the ETS 125 is a $400 sander.

RAREFORMDESIGNS the ETS EC 125/3 is $400(brushless motor, one in video) the ETS 125 REQ is $200 (brushed motor). Unfortunately they have confusingly similar names.
