I am about to build a similar table measuring a table capacity of 3750x1250mm comprising a 1400 rail mounted with bolts. By this I can have the tilting guide rail in a fix position and still be able to make 90 degree off cut on up to 1250x2500mm sheets at any part of the length. For the other direction I use a 3000mm guide rail and a second 1400 rail for other than 90 degree. It was a smart idea with the support wall in the middle to support the table lengthwise. I will change the construction on my version using a supportwall despite the torsion box top. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Another brilliantly well thought out bit of Kit Dave. Great Video quality. I haven't got the room for a cabinet saw, been looking at getting a Single Phase Wadkin on eBay, but the more I think about it the less I need it! I have the HK85EB and that has all the power I need, but I do want the accuracy of a cabinet saw, with my Incra 1000SE Mitre Fence. I love this! I'm endeavouring to set up a workshop and I'm trying to do away with some of the crappy old tools I have, and with space at a premium, avoid unnecessary tools... chief among those, in my mind, is a SCMS. I have been looking at track saws and kept wondering why, in a post track-saw world, the track saw can't take the place of the mitre station. not only that, but greatly increase the capacity of what can be done at a mitre station. I imagined in my mind the exact setup you have here! only difference is that I'm imagining it with MFTs as a top so that one could use bench dogs + things. the MFT gets one half way to not needing a SCMS, but at huge expense and in a way that doesn't really fit into a workshop... it really seems to be dedicated to portable workflows. so, thanks for this video! can I ask why you put the ruler so far away? isn't it hard to see + use? is it possible to put it at the rail closest to you? now my task is to figure out how i can build this, starting with a track saw and two sawhorses...
@DavidStanton7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and compliments. I measure at the back because the track is mounted on a hinge at the back of the unit and it is easier to align correctly prior to locking the front section of the track down. Keep watching as I will be showing a few interesting products that may interest you.

really cool. Do you ever find yourself wanting to cut larger that 800mm at times? Do you think an angled docking station would be practical, say, if the table was at a 45 angle to get a full 1200 sheet, similar to the verticle wall mounted type
@DavidStanton8 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex. Never had the need to do wider than 800 in a finish docking situation. I do sheet breakdown with the track saw on top of the assembly table if needed but usually an edge, rip on table saw and then through the docking station I am demonstrating here.

well in europe we have a great solution if you have 25m² of free space and 5000€ , it's a format saw , you can cut and cross cut sheets as long as 3 meters, but let's be honest , as small hobbyists or just small pro builders, it's not a suitable solution, not for everyone tho ! Your solution is great, it's exactly what i was looking for, i can't put a big format saw in my shop, because of lack of space and money, and also because i don't use it that often, i mainly build small stuff like guitars, and for this type of build, a table saw is basically useless , but when i build cabinets or furniture for my house and shop ... there is not a single piece that is cut square !

Tiit Saul My process is to use the track saw to dress one full edge of a sheet. I then use my cabinet saw to rip to width. The last stage is using this setup to dock the lengths that I require. My widest panel that I would use is 800mm which I can do here. If I do need to cut a full sheet square at one end I will use the 3.4.5 method and set my track to those marks.

With your customised cutting table, I suppose you have had to check several times, to align the hinge and receiving part, and were 90º with respect to the fence. Did you have to fiddle a lot, or did you came up with some easier method of aligning and squaring up? (I hope I explained myself). Cheers! Ernesto, Barcelona, Spain.

@latech159 жыл бұрын
+David Stanton I found the codes, but it appears that the longer rails aren't available in the US. The more I think about it, length of the rails really has nothing to do with it, right? The rails just hold the hinge and the stop/support on the front side. If they never move, then what is the point of the longer rails? I should be able to make as large of a table as I want and just use the rails from the standard MFT/3.
@DavidStanton9 жыл бұрын
+latech15 You can get by with the MFT rails. I like the long ones because I can use the festool clamps to hold items on the edge of the table for whatever reason.
