Thanks so much Johannes! This video is also a cannon of fun. Incredible. Every bit as awesome as I was hoping for. And I thought your explanation of the guilds and concise rules summary was exactly right for this video. You've summed up all of my feelings about this game almost perfectly (I wasn't bothered by the tiny hidden product prices, but was confused by the bubbles/waves on water crossing points) and I think it's really important to have a video available that emphasises the fun aspect of the game to counter the moans about lots of rules and a long teach that one or two reviewers have done. I see you Tom Vasel and I repeatedly shout "IT'S A FUN CANNON! A CANNON OF FUN!" in your general and specific direction! For those of us who love heavy games with a uniquely connected economic mechanic and a smooth card-driven game engine and appreciate quirky and beautiful aesthetics, this game is a masterpiece. And if I'm playing a 2-3 hour game where every action I'm doing is totally enjoyable and fun, the time just flies by. Thanks for doing such great justice to my favourite game of this year and a strong contender for my all-time favourite. And I want a T shirt with the Feudum cover combined with "IT'S A CANNON OF FUN!" emblazoned on it. Get on the case Swanson!

Hey Gareth! Sorry for the stupidly late answer. Life got in the way of the fun cannon, but I'm finally ready to make more videos this week. I hope you will enjoy them :) Thank you for the super nice comment. It made me very, very happy when you wrote it, and it made me happy when I read it again tonight. I'm so pumped to finally have the time to make more videos, and I'm hoping you'll enjoy them all!

Nice review, I'm always glad to see a video that spends more time on the review than on the overview. I have to admit that nothing ever really jumped out at be about this game, but considering that we have fairly similar taste and you like this one as much as you do I might have to reconsider.

Thank you so much! I think there's enough videos with overviews/rules out there for almost every game I'll get to review, but then again, I feel like I want to keep them in there. I did think about skipping it, and just doing the review part, but I am unsure of the result! Maybe I'll try it some day!

How has this held up for you Johannes? What did Sunniva think of it? I realise the channel means you don't get much time to revisit games, but is it one you'd grab the opportunity to do so today?

(Award for latest reply ever goes to me) The teach is worth it for me, but I am unsure how many more times I will be teaching it. I really, really liked the game, but we'll see in a year, how many times I'll get to play it, after reviewing it for the show!

I find the best way to play complex games is to just give a quick overview of the game flow and then jump right in, telling the players "oh by the way, more rules will be coming but they won't make as much sense right now". lets just get cracking. most people don't seem to mind this as much because rules seem to flow better and make more sense on the fly.

That's very interesting to hear, Tom! For us, this is not the case at all. I think everybody in my play group would hate to start a game without knowing all the rules. For me, I wouldn't be able to do anything that felt logical, as I wouldn't have a good enough feeling about why I would do that thing. I love that other groups have their own way of doing this, and it's awesome to hear that your approach works for your group :)

I tried teaching this by doing a mock round that goes through all the cards and their abilities by showing how they work on the board. Then, after the round we reset and begin again. Like you said it's not that complex, it's just a lot of stuff. So having visual examples certainly helped players learn at a quicker pace.

Hey, Johannes! I don't think I've ever seen you so excited in a review before.😆 This looks absolutely gorgeous and I would almost consider getting this just to frame the board and put it up on my wall. However, this one for me falls into the same category as Oath in that I adore the artwork and think the gameplay looks fascinating but geez I don't think I could get my group into playing either one. Perhaps some day.😐

It’s a heavy one for sure! First rules explanation took almost 90 minutes 🤯

The theme and look of this game are so good, shame they couldn't make it med-heavy instead of ultra complex..

I love that it is super complex, but it absolutely makes it less available for people, hehe!

Hey! Sorry for the absurdly late reply! Life got in the way of non-lame reviews, but more videos are finally going to come this week! If you get the chance to try it out, I would give it a go, but it's really not for everybody!

it's hard to bring people into a game that takes so long to teach. People already feel saturated or overwhelmed in medium or heavy games when you're sitting for 20 min or sometimes half an hour explaining the basics of a game. If this game takes that long to teach that already is going to make them digest and enjoy that first experience, which matters a lot for people to like a game. This definitely is a very stunning looking game. But a pass for me.
@BoardGamingRamblings
@BoardGamingRamblings 6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I completely agree! This is a game for a specific group of people. I think almost everyone will feel like the teach is very long, but all players I have played with, have thought the teach was worth it, after playing the game! :) Try it out if you get the chance!
