Ffestiniog Railway Double Fairlie Earl of Merioneth

As an early new build she had a somewhat troubled life, but in her last years on coal and with boiler issues solved she was a good performer. But after almost 40 years in near continuous use apart from the 8 years out when the boiler problems appeared she has reached the point where a new build takes her place. Happily funds have been risen to avoid her being used as a parts donor, and she is kept for a future rebuild.

The now 45 year old Double Fairlie Steam Locomotive does operate well at the Ffestiniog Railway, one of those amazing railroads over in Wales.

If I'm not mistaken this was one of the first trains I ever went on as a kid, I will have to check with the folks to see if they have any pics. I definitely went on a 'push me pull me' as we called it back then 😁

Because it was worn out and will need a lot of work for it to run again but they do have plans to return it to service eventually

Such a shame she was withdrawn. She was never my favourite, but still brilliant as all steam locos are. RIP.
