FFVI Pixel Remaster (Version 1 - OST)

The origin of this compilation video is simply that I wanted a complete version of the soundtrack to listen to in the background while I was working, but could only find individual tracks on KZbin. Thanks to SquareEnix for letting people like me enjoy this classic RPG music.

Im not a gamer person..most of my life I let a looot of games by the midle. But recently I watch someone reacting to FF ost... I was like OMG that is from a videogame!? I MUST play it. So here I am, just ended the opera part(snes ver). This game is too much, even has the art of Amano, my favourite illustrator. This one, Im gonna play it till the end.

The person in charge of remastering this soundtrack must have had a buddy that played the saxophone. It’s very prominent in some spots. Heck, the Narshe music now sounds like soft jazz. 😊

You know, my grandma was the typical "why do kids play videogames instead of going outside?" type of grandma, but she loved music. I played FF3/6 at her house while my mom was working late, and when the opera section started she stopped, sat down, and just watched and listened. She said she had no idea video games could have such pretty music and stories. I think my grandma changed a bit that day. It was an awesome moment. Also close to 30 years ago 🥲

@@eldroch7513 I don't know where you are from but every parents (including your grandma) in the world says the same things to their kids 😂 I believe the video games that we played when we were kids are still standing out from those in nowadays, in the point of making concepts and creating sounds. It's because they couldn't depend on the super real graphic at that time and the development environment were very limited. Anyway thanks for sharing your story 🙏 P.S. I played the game recently and absolutely loved the game. But i dont thinl its nowhere near as good as other final fantasy games. Maybe its part nostalgia? I think FF9 has the best and that game was part of my childhood.

I think FFVII has somewhat higher high marks than FFVI does, but FFVI is a more consistent (if shorter) soundtrack overall than FFVII. Really not a single "just okay" track on the OST.

I'm strongly interested on how the track "the magic house" was impacted by zeitgeist shift. In the old version the feeling is different from the new one, that was totally influenced by the Harry Potter movies (just listen to strings and winds sections).

I actually got goosebumps. I've always wanted the music to FFVI to get treatment like this. In fact, the music getting redone was much MUCH more important than the actual visuals. I like what they tried to do, but the mixed quality of the tracks (e.g., you get full orchestral awesomeness on one track, then some cheap synthesizer noise on Metamorphosis) really did this a disservice. Or the songs were "re-interpreted" and no longer fit the game section they're used in (the Narshe theme, in particular, now belongs in a 1980s softcore porn movie and Slam Shuffle is just stupid and synthy; it's like circus music now instead of being the soundtrack to a seedy town full of thieves and liars...yet another fail from Kataoka, who wasn't content with fucking up Narshe's theme). If they'd tighten this up and kick Kataoka out, this could be the best OST ever made in the history of video games.

Nope, samples have just gotten a lot better since the 90s! There are a few tracks where you can hear they recorded a soloist, like the sax for Narshe and Zozo or the whistling for Shadow's theme or the trumpet in the regular battle theme. Some of the string orchestra and brass lines also sound like they're recorded by live musicians, but most of the music is still samples. It's a cool technique called hybrid scoring where recording some of the instruments live makes the sampled stuff sound more real.
