FFXI Odyssey - Thief Farming Strategies and Example

BartekSWT/SimonSes has pointed out that you can use Hide to ditch all mob aggro in Odyssey with the exception of Agon aggro. Definitely use this to your advantage to drop aggro you get while opening chest/coffer/box as opposed to the kill/death method I describe if you have Hide ready to use. However there are some rules you must keep in mind with this. 1. Blood aggro will cause this not to work. 2. You want to be running from the mobs when you use Hide, if you use it in the middle of a group of mobs you will normally reaggro before you get clear of them.

hey thanks for the video! Also, to help you out, you can get the mini map addon in gearswap. The Minimap will show you green icons on the map (I.E. treasure chest) so you dont have to keep tabbing! happy farming!

NICE: you have a macro to remove invisible and trade key to chest, that is what I was missing

I got a mimic yesterday and it made my trusts despawn before killing me. Same thing happened in treasure trove.

Any updates to this strategy since the video went live? Do you prefer farming this way for scales, or have you switched back to the "normal" approach?

It's a great question. No updates to the strategy other then the "Hide" technique mentioned in the top pinned comment. In regards to what I've been doing... I truthfully got sick of Thief runs. After I finished getting all the scales I needed for my upgrades and got to MM level 9 I switched back to Ninja and have been doing runs where i fight 3 nm's and clear a few groups of mobs and get 150 scales or so plus 150-200k. To me that is worth it over continuing to synth those damn keys which is really what got old after a while along with the runs where you would seem to get mimc's over and over. So all in all both strategies are good but personally I can only do Thief farming for so long. :) will probably go back to it again when they release a new odyssey update.

This event gives me anxiety, lol the fkn time limit... By the time I'm finished calling Trusts I'm already worried about the clock. I've been working on different methods to maximize since it's inception. I'm gonna adapt this for my Alt THF. Great vid as always, thanks bud.

What is the command to drop invis? Is there one to unequip gear rather than doing it piece by piece?

To go naked I setup an equipset that removes all my armor inside of FFXI. For the invis command, if you have the console addin you can use the /console cancel "Invisible" command

Whats the range u have to be from the mimic to not get drawn back ? I did exactly what was told, got tanks on the mimic and ran away and died from other mobs.. when i re-raised I got drawn back in lol.

From my test it seems to be exactly 20 feet. Good question!

What other content do you recomend to farm for all the gil required to buy some pieces of the ken. set?

Astrals in Omen is good as you can get capacity points at the same time. You can also get a few million gil a few times a week if you simply exp during the Gain Experience Challenges and use your Unity /Sparks for gil items.

I think you dont know about one very important thing lol. Using Hide ability drops aggro from pretty much any non Agon mobs in Odyssey. You dont need to kill aggro.

Really? Wow I had no idea... Will add this to top note as yes that is much more helpful then dealing with it or dying. I thought hide wouldn't ever work on mobs that aggro based on sound... does this mean that you DON"T need sneak for mobs in Odyssey or is this just the way it is?

@@NextGamesGuide every mob in odyssey has sight aggro and most but no all have sound aggro. Hide afaik for whatever reason works for everything beside Agon.

@@NextGamesGuide Don't forget about blood aggro. I recall that outside of odyssey, hide doesn't work on undead when blood aggro can happen. It wouldn't surprise me if the same can happen to cause hide to fail.

@@Khajitxi Yep very good point. Been doing some testing with this over the last 48 hours and it's sadly more complicated than just hitting Hide. Few of the things I've noted. 1. Blood Aggro will absolutely cause it to not work. Tried it twice now and both times the blood aggro mobs in tow kept chasing me. 2. You want to use hide after you are running and hopefully a few feet in front of the mobs... if you use it right in the middle of the group of mobs I'm finding that they do deaggro but then immediately aggro again 1-3 seconds later before I've gotten lear of the group of mobs. Both of those being said.. it's also saved me a number of times now so it does work, just need to make sure those above two situations are dealt with.

It's called Gearinfo. Sadly it recently broke with the last update so we are working to get it working well again but yes it's called Gearinfo.

NextGames are you planning to port it for both windower and ashita? I use and prefer ashita personally, so I’d definitely like to have this as an option.

Kingfisher1980 No plans to port as I would have no idea how sadly. To my knowledge the original author only wrote it for windower sadly.

NextGames bummer. I have no clue either. I know that some of the windower addons have been adapted for both. Equipviewer was so once you guys get this working properly, I’ll see if the same method works for this.

I haven't seen much gear that augments are worth while, but I may be overlooking things. What really is point of even doing Odyssey, or is it just for selling the scales?

There are a few good pieces such as the DA belt which is often BiS now in many situations. A few good HP options as well but yea that's really it. Also know though that this is just the first part of Odyssey, supposed to be much more coming and the increased MM levels you get today may certainly be handy later on... time will tell. Hopefully they eventually add some actual armor drops.

Not sure why you were using Arciela II but Arciela I is basically the same except she does aoe heals so if you have her there's no reason to use Arciela II.

It's a valid point. I think I just kind of used her out of habit as I'm used to using her on Ninja for MB's as I rarely rely on my RDM's to heal and really just wanted someone to quickly haste me if I happened to get a normal mob aggro. Truthfully she's the most useless of the group either way in this setup anyway as your only in fights for a few seconds for the tanks to Provoke and then your running away where no one has the ability to cure. Really could use another tank there if you want to help buy yourself even more time to die. I've done that a number of times and seems to work well, I normally summon Gessho when I try that setup.
