【FFXIV】4.X Samurai ~ Triple Sen Opener and Basic Rotation

Opener and rotation is subject to change due to more information being found at a later date.
This video shows another opener as well as the basic rotation for the job itself. Divulges into some details on how to maintain your rotation after your opener and general rule of thumbs for spending Kenki.

The Kasha opener will be mainly used with a class that brings a Slashing debuff (WAR/NIN)
The Yukikaze opener will be used when there are no Slashing debuff bringers.
I've seen a lot of misinformation being spread on Reddit lately where most people will start their combos off with Jinpu - which when looking at it from face value looks more appealing than Shifu in the long run it is not. Shifu comes out at around 11% of a damage increase.
That's not to say using Jinpu first will never be acceptable however. Say comes a fight where you need to put your DoT up ASAP so you get a full duration before a phase change. You'd most likely use Jinpu first.
Some might also argue that the Yukikaze opener is weaker than the Kasha opener in general even if there is no WAR or NIN in the party. I disagree but I still have to do further testing. Getting slashing debuff up for the other 2 tanks + yourself faster feels like it would be better overall for Raid DPS.
With the introduction to 30 second potions the potion spot is definitly subject to change. I didn't have any on me so I made due with what I had.

Buff Priority: Speed buff ＞ Damage buff ＞ Slashing debuff
35 Rule: At a basic level 35 Kenki is the threshold at which you can use Shinten in your single-target. Why this is a thing is because if you have 35 Kenki there is no way you can't get a Shinten and Kaiten in within the next combo. Shinten = 25 Kenki so if we use HS at 35 Kenki we'll be put at 10 then combo (5) combo (5) which is 20 Kenki which lets Kaiten be able to be used. You can also do combo (5) ＞ Yukikaze (10) which puts us at 25 for Shinten. The post on the official forums goes into better detail on this rule than I do. tl;dr when in doubt wait till you have 35 Kenki.
Using Hagakure on 3 Sen will almost ALWAYS be a DPS increase. The reason I use Hagakure on 1 Sen halfway through the video was to get an extra use over the whole fight.
This Opener specializes when the Ninja in your party is using Trick Attack after 6 GCDs. If the Ninja is using Trick Attack after 5th GCD use the Kasha Opener
If you have a Dragoon use the 1 Sen opener, if you have a Ninja use the 3 Sen opener. If the phase lasts around 70-80 seconds then the 3 Sen Opener is Superior however if the phase lasts around 3 minutes 1 Sen is better.
If single weaving Guren after Yukikaze make sure to wait half way through your GCD so it registers under slashing.
If there is no downtime happening within 60 seconds you can use meditate between your GCDs to have the chance of getting a free 10 Kenki.
Using Third Eye to proc Open Eyes from inevitable damage to use Seigan is a DPS increase.
When you apply the DOT for the 3rd time you have to let it fall or put it up at 10s left if you use the "sen to kenji skill" on three sen. But if you use it on 2 sen you can reapply your dot just in time.
You can use Meditate in between your first GCDs. Meditate gives 10 Kenki per tick. Using Meditate, however, causes you to stop autoattacks and any actions will cancel it.

question, why not weave true north before the first gekko so you don't end up having to move to get the positional in your opener, im pretty sure true north is a off gcd. trying it with your opener, it ended up lining up pretty well, ending right after the 2nd gekko (kasha opener that is).

In case you have no Warrior in the team I would rather start with the slashing debuff, for the simple fact, that your tank / or tanks / or even tanks and nin / benefit from it too, increasing overall party damage.

The Yukikaze opener is in the first video I made. But if you have a NIN it's better to do the other openers still. Since NIN's will get up their slashing in 2.5 GCDs of us due to them having Huton up first.

Thanks for all of this! It has been a great help. I've gotten the three sen and 1 sen openers + rotation down pretty well and have just been working on pulling them off with mechanics going on, and have been working on incorporating the stuff in your description like third eye for seigan and meditate if there's no downtime. (seigan has been easy, I keep forgetting the meditate_ One question though, what are you referring to in the "sen to kenji skill". Got a little confused there.

If you would not mind me asking. Have you tried a 2 Sen opener yet? Applying some similar principles, and also thinking about the fact that most DPS I.E. Red Mage and Dragoon specifically need to build for the big parts of their rotation. So why not instead go with Yuki Combo > Gekko Combo > (Hagakure) > Kasha Combo > (Kaiten) Higanbana (Meikyo Shisui.) > Kasha (Gurren) > Gekko (Shinten) > Yuki > (Kaiten) Midare? This would put you in line with most Red Mage embolden and other party buffs. As well as allowing for 2 Kaitens 1 Shinten and a Gurren all in one opener.

I've been rewatching over and over) and got 1 more question - you delaying 2nd Guren for good 45secs, you do that for mostly trick attack and other party buffs, right? is it really worth it to delay Guren so much in a pug group, relying on them to use their CDs properly to line up with yours?) (Also i already asked but you didnt answer, is it better to use jinpu>shifu priority on mobs that wont live long? or shifu is still superior to jinpu in any case?)

The reason Guren was delayed here for 45 seconds was because it was optimized for a 3 minute fight. You wouldn't normally delay that long and use on cooldown instead. And yes Shifu > Jinpu

3 Sen is the most potent with 6 GCD trick, 1 Sen Kasha is most potent with 5th GCD trick. If theres no NIN I prefer using 3 Sen over 1 Sen.

New to the game. Would you say that Bard rotation is more difficult to learn than Samurai? It seems like there are a bit more things to keep track of as a bard whereas samurai is a constant memorized rotation.

Late reply but you got it right. Samurai is much easier to learn as everything comes and goes in a set order due to a lack of RNG-based procs. With Bard it's all based off of your dot crits and your Refulgent Arrow procs, as well as being able to line up Raging Strikes with Wanderer's Minuet consistently and keeping Straight Shot active. Bard, IMO, is harder to master but is much more rewarding to play.

I personnally start with the Kasha combo to get the SS buff asap, the use Hagakure right after. Following, the Gekko combo into Kaiten/Higanbana, Meikyo Shisui, all 3 Sen, Guren and Kaiten/Midare. This opener uses all the Generated Kenki for the 2 most-efficient kenki-spender (Guren and Kaiten on Midare and Higanbana), which is what we're aiming for. You also end up with no remaining Sen, so you can go to your basic rotations after this. When Guren comes off-cooldown and you dont have enough Kenki to use it, simply use Hagakure to generate it.

I have 1000 SKS in this video. I'm now at 500 SKS and this rotation flows a lot more fluid. I have no idea how I would handle the 3rd reapplication of Higanbana since I haven't tested it with 3 sen. But just looking at it I would prob clip it a little early. So instead of doing Jinpu > Hagakure i'd hold Shinten and do Jinpu > Kaiten > Hagakure > Gekko > Hagakure or something.

I still just can't wrap my head around how Hakagure 3 Sen is better than Kaiten/Midare. Your Shinten were avg just over 4k while Midare waa 15kish. I get that Shinten is off the gcd which is nice. Kaiten on Midare is 18p/kenki Shinten is 12p/kenki Kaiten Midare = 1080potency for 20 kenki hagakure with 3 Sen is 60 kenki + extra GCD Midare - the 20 kenki you were going to spend is 240 potency gained back addd that extra GCD you get back +5 kenki tl;dr: Hagakure on 3 sen is 1020 potency + the potency of an extra GCD and extra Kenki

a lot of problems I've had at level 70 is the outrageous amount of skill speed. can't seem to get good gear without 800-900 sks, which makes sen management in regards to cooldowns and Higanbana dot very frustrating. Any idea what kind of sks to aim for? I noticed in your video you have recast timers of 2.47, which is about 400-500 sks, but I'm curious how you got it so low.. no idea what gear to use because everything at max ilvl right now gives absurd amounts. Appreciate the help, thanks.

ohh thank you. I guess I just run into a few problems regarding cooldowns during the yukikaze and kasha openers. Things in the 3-sen one tend to work from what I see in the video. :) the rotation of Hagakure and Meikyo after the yukikaze one mostly, I end up having like 2 seconds left on Hagakure with all 3 sen open, while just after using shifu or jinpu. I don't know if I should use Midare Setsugekka and use Hagakure later (I doubt that's the case), wait the extra split second to use Hagakure before using Gekko or Kasha, or use Gekko or Kasha and waste a Sen. I'm not sure if that makes sense, maybe having higher SKS will fix the problem, but any tips would be appreciated. I can give a more detailed example of the rotation and my problem if that helps, thanks a lot!

So I just tried it again, I'm not sure what was so weird about it beforehand but I didn't have the problem I described above. The only weird thing was after the second hagakure, Meikyo Shisui still had about eight seconds. What I did was a full Gekko combo, Meikyo came up, I used it and did yukikaze, Kasha, Midare Setsugekka, then another Gekko, then straight back into normal rotation. Is there something else I should be doing? would love any feedback, thanks.

After that I also had to clip Higanbana by about 4 or 5 seconds because Hagakure still had about 16 seconds. With more sks I imagine that clip would be longer. Is that alright? or what should I do to avoid that?

So when is the right time to use Hagakure? After running Susano EX a few times, outside of my opener I have no Kenki management problems. Shinten is only used when I have around ~30-40 Kenki and only if it's before a combo. Guren is used on CD because I'd rather build my Kenki to around 80 when it's about ready to cast. It seems like dumping Sen into Kenki means you are losing damage since a 3 Sen Hagakure can only guarantee 2 Shinten per use of Hagakure. Hagakure feels like Meditate where I should only be used during moments where you can't hit the boss for an extended time.

You should be using Hagakure on CD, it is almost always a DPS increase to 3 Sen Hagakure over Midare, you should only be using Midare when both Hagakure and Meiyko are on CD.

I wished ppl decides once for all which is the best status weight for sam. Actually I'm 1906 critical, 1552 direct hit and 1100 det and still doign same rotation as when I had 1500 crit with dps almost identical... I use this as opener. Another problem is hagakure. With 693 skill speed I always have hagakure ready 2 seconds later once I builded 3 sen... so is forcing me to use midare or delay 2 secodns for use hagakure, either waiting for it OR do a hakaze first... fucking shit skill speed and day SE placed it on game.

Didnt want to delete the post, so i'll just say here: I re-did the math and now i totally agree that using Hagakure on 3sens is a dps gain unless you go over 100 kenki(which is easily avoidable with some management)or boss is going invincible within next few seconds. Hello, would you mind elaborating a bit on using Hagakure to get 60 kenki, please? Because i can't understand how instead of using kaiten+midare (720+360 potency) is worse than getting 60 kenki and using 2x Shinten (300+300), even if you had extra 15 kenki beforehand, that would just add extra 300 potency, so basically according to you 1080potency < 900 potency? am i missing something? Or you mean to strictly use Hagakure for when Guren is about to go off cd?

it is true, but you will never use just Midare, it's a must to use with Kaiten(so 720+360), meaning the potencies are different. Holding one gcd is not big deal since after 3 sens your next gcd is Hakaze 150 potency(so even if you count 12*60 = 720+150, it's still less than Midare+Kaiten), so mathematically i can agree, but practically, 60 kenki is not even 3 shintens, only 2. So far, i came to conclusion that priority for kenki is Kaiten>Guren>Shinten, dont you think that's the way?

Hi, I'm not very great with theorycrafting, but I tried both methods, using Hagakure mid pull and only using it at the opening. The highest output I got during a 3 minute parse was using Hagakure as a "dps increase" ending in 4.2k after 3 minutes. The other method however, also landed me around 4.1k. I don't know if this helps at all or anything. I did each method a couple times.

+Dmitry K Your thinking is a little bit flawed though. Kaiten + Midare has a 1080 base potency - let's say you're using Hagakure for all 3 symbols (although that's probably something that shouldn't be done, using it at 1 or 2 depending on the situation seems to work out better), that gets you 60 Kenki in addition to the 20 you would have used for Kaiten; so in this case you have 80 Kenki which equates to 960 potency plus the GCD you're saving. Not to mention that it makes your DoT management considerably easier. Properly using Hagakure should be a DPS increase under all circumstances.

momo, could you try a yukikaze first, 3 sen opener, it seems to have a higher dps gain the, yukikaze first 2 sen hakaze > yukikaze > hakaze > shifu > kasha > hakaze > jinpu > mkss/shinten > gekko/hagakure/guren > kasha/kaiten > higanbana > gekko/shiten > hakaze > shifu > kasha > hakaze > yukikaze/kaiten > midare

5th GCD Trick - Kasha Opener 6th GCD Trick - Triple Sen Opener No Slashing - Yukikaze Opener You said the other melee is going MNK so the opener you use will be fight dependent instead. Both openers are fine for you.

Question, I haven't done a single testing but if possible you could tell me if the rotation I use here ffxivrotations.com/rl4 is viable and if so in which situation. Disclaimer, I did not make the combo myself, it is copied from another video, if need be I will link. The issue will be that Higanbana won't enjoy the slashing debuff damage increase but other than that, I felt that it is a good opener seeing as Off GCDs were used as early as possible without compromising damage.

This is the same opener in my other video. Slashing debuff will normally be up with a WAR/NIN so typically that won't be a problem. This opener is good for 5th GCD Trick Attack.

The 3 Sen opener is better for phases that last 60-70 seconds for 6th GCD Trick. The 1 Sen opener is better for phases that last longer than 3 minutes and 5th GCD Trick.

Can't even do the double weave without it clipping into my GCD since my ping isn't good enough. Also opener requires Infusion of strength potion to be able to pull of the DoT and Midare inside the potion buff. And right now, those infusion of strength potions are too expensive. This is the opener you use for the truly privileged. Next time check your privileges before you post an opener Momo

So question with guren, once its off CD. what should you do if say the boss will jump. Use it before it jumps or after the boss comes back? And mainly in order for you to use it again after the open. How would you build your kenki back up? (I'm going to guess by having hagakure and meiko shisui line up to do so, since thats what I've been doing)

On a basic level use it on cooldown. On a more advanced level you'll want to save it for party buffs as long as you don't miss a usage of it.
