I didn't realize I was playing ad hoc all along when doing TEA, it just made more sense to me than learning a rigid rotation.

Whats really funny about this, is despite some changes we've gotten since.. this is how i played Stormblood Samurai lol I already figured that Meiyko was better used on Gekko and Kasha, and just tried my best to use it on those, and manual do Yukikaze. I think part of my falling out on SAM was the "filler" playstyle, but seeing this takes me back home.

been playing sam for many moons now and ive heard the terminology around but never knew what adhoc actually was, good looks bro

I noticed that in your dummy fflog, the 6 minute Higanbana gets used at 6:12.177 and 7 minute Higanbana gets used at 7:07.929. Does that mean we are losing 1 (pot + buff) tick? Is it better to use Gekko/Kasha for the 7 minute Higanbana (so you get to delay 1 gcd)?
@FahrosXIV2 ай бұрын
Looks the same in the Noblesse Oblige XIV analysis timeline: xivanalysis.com/fflogs/CjhBQcbHfNkdKgGz/1/1 Good eye! But to be honest, I think these kind of nuanced questions depend entirely on killtime. Unfortunately I think there's no concrete example here, on what's "best". Because imagine the situation where you happened to kill exactly on a midare GCD. Regarding the damage on your log, you'd be extremely thankful that you had pushed yourself a GCD ahead in your rotation to where you were able to finish that midare, where as if you went for the Gekko bana, you'd be a GCD behind. But if you happened to kill 1 GCD after a midare, then you could have afforded to push that DoT application towards getting an extra juiced DoT tick. I think it's probably safest to apply the principle of using manually built Yukikaze sen to apply Higanbana as much as possible, if you aren't in a static group and if you aren't aware of your killtime in advance. But these are the sort of things that can be tweaked towards maximizing damage for the perfect kill/fflog if you're aware of your killtime and especially with the adhoc rotation I think. And don't get it twisted, I don't claim to have all this mastered yet. I feel I've gotten good at it, but I'm ultimately still learning it with all of you. So maybe we can share logs and strategies on each fight to try and find the Samurai damage ceiling together!

Honestly, I didn't even know that SAM had a standard loop, I thought it was intuitive enough to be played flexible like this to begin with.

I think it is the intended design with the sticker system stalling ur dot etc is very intuitive even tho sometimes the refresh on the dot is iffy this style is more much more fun and engaging imo

Adhoc rotation is essentially an attempt to turn samurai into monk...

Would be awesome to find out who the first Samurai to perfect Adhoc was. Could call it "The (player's name) Style" instead.

ad hoc sounds cool. The syllables are powerful, it's latin. It conveys a sense of targeted mastery. lmaolol

The 10:30 min fflogs you provided for your comparison of the adhoc vs looping rotation are erroneous, you used 2 pots on adhoc and only 1 on the loop.
@FahrosXIV2 ай бұрын
That's honestly so dumb, I don't know why that happened. That's definitely an error! Sorry about that. So when introducing the logs in the video I should not have called their DPS into question for comparison. I'm glad I didn't end up showing their respective DPS's now, hah! But to be fair, the primary purpose of showing these logs was not to show an actual DPS value comparison. The real point of them being shown was to show how the rotation will be ahead extra midare/shoha casts by cutting out filler and using manually built Yukikaze Higanbanas and accelerated Meikyos. It was just extra information to support/echo the XIVanalysis and 7.0 guide. I apologize for any confusion and for miss speaking briefly on the topic in the video, and I will edit the description. Hopefully viewers can read the edit and/or this comment, and still benefit from the principles/logic presented in this video, which are accurate.

The thing about adhoc is the rotation will be different depending on the fight. If you want a more straightforward rotation, Fahros has a samurai guide he posted last week that should be helpful. 😊
@FahrosXIV2 ай бұрын
If it could be helpful, I do have a recording of the 10m30s FFLog of me hitting the training dummy. I could upload that for you too, but like Lunaeriss says, the thing about this rotation is that it changes based on the fight/uptime/killtime as well. It's not a structured loop like the standard opener and rotation. If you'd prefer a more structured style, that is pretty much just as good, check out this video:kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXWyf3WCh5tqqJI Other than that, what parts don't you get? Maybe I can help!
@azlith89152 ай бұрын
After looking through the linked rotation from noblesse Its pretty clear that this is a purely selfish rotation. You are putting a ton of gyofu and yukikaze inside of buffs and even missing some hardest hitting attacks in buffs. If your goal is just to parse then thats fine I suppose but you may find it difficult to find other players who want to parse that will play with you if you're not going to feed their buffs.
@FahrosXIV2 ай бұрын
Hmmm, I think there is some misunderstanding here. Check the XIV analysis timeline again, and make sure to ctrl+scrollwheel so you can space things out enough to see the second each ability is going out. There are not any major attacks that fall out of raid buff windows. And there are actually very few Gyofu in the even burst timings, and in fact none after the 6:02 during the 2nd pot window. There's no Gyofu from 4:01 to 4:24 either. This rotation is not purely selfish as you claimed, it provides top tier aDPS just as it provides top tier rDPS. Any player should be happy to play with a Samurai utilizing this rotation, even jobs like Ninja or Dragoon that want their teammates to coordinate heavily with their burst intervals. Edit: Also don't forget that Adhoc actually saves up meikyos so it can double meikyo during it's 4m and 6m burst intervals, where the standard loop rotation would only use one meikyo. I think for this reason adhoc burst intervals can actually be a bit stronger, since they don't have to use meikyos during every odd minute burst to maintain their loop alignment.
